Was not pretty. Nasty situation. Had to snatch and hold a Tier 1 asset. Bad guys did not want 'em getting away, so they just sent in waves of mooks to wear down the boys, before sending in the heavy hitters, and finally, the End Boss. The whole detachment plus a company of Royal Marines got annihilated, but they made the bastards pay in blood. Now, Mecha is the norm here in the IS: For Answer-verse, thanks to key technologies derived from IS development. Mecha comes in three flavors, from roughly 3 to 4+ meters tall to man-sized: Muscle Tracers, progenitor powered exoskeletons, utilitarian, function over form, can be weaponized on the fly, and very common in civilian sector. Next, Armored Troopers, real mecha derived from MTs, cheap, "squishy" humanoid armored tin cans armed with a 30mm autocannon at the very least typically, very versatile and effective when used correctly. Last but not least, power armor, referred to as Personal Troopers, is a must-have item for any infantry man, mechanized or not, in a battlefield where overkill levels of ordinance and killing power is the norm. The last piece of mecha, if you can call 'em that, is a post-War concept called Arms Forts, megaweapons on a massive scale that are many times larger and much more powerful than any single Infinite Stratos. Deployed in matters where IS are neither available nor sufficient, the existence of these fantastical mobile battle fortresses, bristling with weapon batteries, heavy armor, experimental arms and technologies, and veteran troops, replaces the reliance of IS in military operations, effectively. Just by their presence alone, they can cow an entire despot country into submission. One such example is The Spirit of Texas, a huge walking Arms Fort commissioned by the US. Presently deployed in the East African Special Administrative Zone (or Area 8), it is designed like a gargantuan aircraft carrier and is bristling with several VLS launchers, long-range bombardment cannons, a plethora secondary batteries, and many auxiliary mechanized and airborne units. Heavy laminated armor makes this AF virtually indestructible from the outside. Being a FAC in this kind of highly mechanized, and mobile battlefield is challenging work to say the least, I assure you.

Not quite what I was thinking, to be honest - IMO this is all proceeding a little too fast, given that IS deployment is only 10 years old (and the series is circa 2020). What I had more in mind, as per Widow Six Seven's quick bio, was the British Army wanting to quietly steal the thunder on everyone else and develop several things: 1) IS Combat Doctrine 2) IS Interoperability With Other Assets Doctrine 3) FAC Doctrine For Using IS 4) More Doctrine 5) Yet More Bloody Doctrine 6) Fucking Doctrine Again?! 7) Good Gods Man, Haven't You Had Enough Bloody Doctrine For One Lifetime? (Yes, I have spent the last 8 months on-off writing up previously non-existant doctrine for my call centre. Why do you ask?) To an extent, I'd think that powered armor would still be in its infancy, given that the various nations are trying to reverse engineer IS - though apparently someone can do it, given the UCAV IS we see in the show... this is my way of saying, "Slow down, dude. Less is more." Quote:

@Goose:
IS: For Answer. A.D. 2120. Ditto. Cannon... A.D. 2020. Ditto. Certainly, IS deployment and doctrine has only been around for 10 years. But what about actual development? It could be a year, decades, or a whole century for all we know. That's part of how I justify the existence of spankin' cool mecha, plus some Black Technology / EOT doesn't hurt. ...I would not be surprised if IS itself gets revealed to be some kind of black tech, once the author gets around to it. Besides, it's 2020 and we already have full on holographic displays with haptic interfaces? Linear lines? Super cool directed energy weapons? Fin Funnels? Anti-grav? Energy shields? Etc. Come on, Goose, you gotta lighten up, bro. ...but, hey, you can always create your own AU that's very gritty and hardcore, too.

Speaking of the Spirit of Texas... how is it supposed to ford oceans? If its the same as the Spirit of the Motherwill... It's mobility should be restrained to the US continent. Unless that you gave it amphibious powers then. I ask for STYGRO!

As for the Spirit of Texas, well, they assembled it in Africa, after the major "components" were shipped over. This might seem a little absurd, but considering the US Military has a base in the horn of Africa, namely Camp Lemonnier, which is owned by the US Navy last time I checked, the logistics is possible. It's a pretty big facility covering about 2-square kilometers of turf in present day, but when you extrapolate for fiction's sake, well, it makes for the awesome. That said, as far the Spirit-class of AFs are concerned there is a refit underway that will allow them to ford "small" bodies of water, e.g. the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Persian Gulf, Baltic Sea, and the Mediterranean. Of course, they are rather ponderous and vulnerable to attack during transit, being unable to use their distinctive long-range bombardment cannons to add to their weight of fire. An Amphibious or Sea going AF, or a whole pack of hunter killer submarines would be a bad day in the making. Hence, they are given the same due as aircraft carriers with plenty of escorts, when they have to wade into the water.

Regards to research and all - again, I'm setting this germ of an idea in canon, where things are still getting off the ground. Why? My own personal interest - in the last 3 years I've found myself involved n various settings up of first things (one of my most recent jobs was to conduct OPEVAL on Domino's US Pulse software and determine if it was suitable for Malaysian use) means that I'd prefer to play in this era, rather than IS:FA which is 100 years later and more your kinda thing. IIRC linear rail lines exist today, though they're still not yet into mass deployment - something about cost issues and the like. Granted, I tend to be a more down to earth focused kinda person. Again, he's the only person who Cecilia Alcott would feel she is a social inferior to. With the callsign and other hints, it should be easy to figure out who this is. Basically, he's going to end up making similar comments to this Gunny: Mind, I totally feel the same way as Gunny Hitler: "It's like every day I come to work a piece of my soul dies." Edit: Further thoughts - when I think about it, IS may well be the only platform shared by all 4 branches of the US Military - the Army may well want a few to supplement the Apaches, especially since the Comanche got canned. Air Force will want to be able to intercept enemy IS, remembering how White Knight soloed 207 5th gen fighters. Navy will want the same, recalling that White Knight savaged 7 carrier groups. Marines will appreciate having more firepower to support the rifleman on the ground. And since it's not fixed wing, the Key West Agreement doesn't apply. At least until USAF starts the politicking again (a year ago, a leaked USAF briefing document identified the Army, Navy and Marine Corps as the enemy).

Well, I could always put it down to "Anime Director changing the Voice Actress" like they do for some anime while transiting from one medium to the next. I thot it was... um... that other choice I didn't really recognize? Quote:

I could go with this Nana choice. Saves me the effort to go make a Nana. That just leaves me with teacher and STE test pilot Kazehaya Sawako (Yes she's married ) for my Noto character. Oh and [Shooting Star] sponsor Chao Ryumei for my evil Chiwa Saito fix. Quote:
(meanwhile goes PFFFFFFFFFFFFT at discovering that Yukana voiced CCS Lee Meiling) EDIT: It has come to my atttention that some parts of the old fanon existed in Karon's biodata still, so I went back and scrubbed those out. So no weird buying out of Australia (though right now the ASX is owned by a Singapore GLC) and no flood. However, Rachel Hirasawa (my adaptation of Saintess' OC, though did I spell the name correct?) continues to enjoy her status of spacenoid. A crack world has to have some mindbending parts after all. It allows for the Metropolis to be home to "political exiles" as well, and that would again fit her, given that her father's name was involved with the Halycons and the One Year War.

I'm really disappointed that no one has found Widow Six Seven's crack. Or his actual identity. Does nobody do research anymore?
I'll repeat again: as of 2020 he's 35 years old and a British Army Major; he was commissioned as a Coronet into the Blues and Royals; he first trained as a tank commander but did not join the Blues and Royals when they deployed to Iraq, as he is a bullet magnet for insurgents; subsequently in 2007 he served with deep secrecy as a Forward Air Controller in Helmand province, Afghanistan (which is where he picked up the callsign Widow Six Seven); after leaving Afghanistan he transfered to the Army Air Corps and trained as an Apache pilot. Now, at the ripe old age of 35, the British Army Major known by his callsign of Widow Six Seven is an observer at the IS academy, monitoring the performance of Cecilia Alcott and IS in general, conducting preliminary work that will form the foundation for British IS doctrine. He will not be cowed by Cecilia's social status or upper class; rather she would be cowed by him. Because while she's apparently posh and an IS pilot, he has her beat in the family pedigree. Should I spell it out?

At last, someone gets it.
To be honest I've been half-amused, half-aghast that nobody's called me out on it. Perhaps if Widow Six Seven was female, i.e. genderbent, perhaps then people would have called me out on it?

Actually, I fail at stuff like that Wild Goose. Sure, the prince would make a funny appearance... I'm already smelling tea time ahead... XD Or cecilia being HUMBLED.
All hail britania. Too bad I can't bring De Gaulle as a ninja zombie robot pirate. ----------------------------- And now, chapter 2's up. Infinite Stratos : Omega Gaiden - Table Of Contents (Updated) Serious stuff should be starting soon enough...

Why would we bother with the prince of a country "whose only strength is its ancient culture"? At least if she were a princess we'd have a bit more concern. And that's just a little bit.
I'm featuring Princess Tatsumiya Aiko of the Crysanthenum Throne as a side character pilot in Shooting Star, wholesale and without much changes. She's a moeblob, she can fly an IS, and with the voice of Iwao Junko (if Maaya is taken) I think more people will notice. And she's be just the right age come 2021!

Accidental Pervert.
Sadly, this will often fall on him... when we're not in a serious situation (well, even in serious situations, we might have one of the girls hit him due to a misunderstanding...) There's a high chance that he might get his own Harem... But we're not sure for now. As for a potential opening for my own side of the story... I think I got a nice song: Moar seriousness. EDIT: P.s Meister... How often does Karon switch form between imouto and her true-self?
