When I was a kid, I used to listen to CantoPop a lot, That was probably during the late 80's, early 90's. Then I gradually started listening to stuff like Nirvana during the mid 90's, and late 90's it was all the Offspring, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.
Then I dunno, I gradually moved away from all English stuff, and now am basically back to Chino stuff, along with Japanese and Korean. I'm to the point were no English songs really interest me at all anymore. People often go "oh, did you hear (whatever) song on the radio?" And 9/10 times I'm totally clueless about it. Strange, I know, since I'm CBC, but I guess I'm getting in touch with my roots eh? Currently, I'm listen to a lot of Jay Chou, David Tao, Sun Yanzi, and Elva Siu. |

As they come to me:
Verdi, Aphex Twin, Chocolate Genius, Elliott Smith (who recently committed suicide, much to my dismay), Hayden, Jeff Buckley, Julie Doiron, Beethoven, Led Zeppelin, Leonard Cohen, Nine Inch Nails, Rachmaninoff, Radiohead, Portishead, Jim O'Rourke, Chopin, Saul Williams, The Delgados, Tom Waits, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Liszt, The Cinematic Orchestra, Squarepusher, Tori Amos, Rufus Wainwright, Mozart, The Cure, The Smiths, Dead Can Dance, Bjork, The Ramones, (Old) Metallica, Pink Floyd, Michel Portal, Nick Drake, Muse, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Donovan, David Bowie, The Beatles, The Who, Massive Attack, Eric Clapton, and Elgar. By the by, the "Classical" period in Western (or European) music history only lasted from about 1750 - 1825. This includes such composers as Mozart and Beethoven, but not Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Chopin, Ravel and a good many others. It's inaccurate to lump them all together under the umbrella of "Classical" as this term not only refers to a specific period in history (in which many of them were not composing) but also to some important stylistic and thematic distinctions. Yep. |
