True. But from a production standpoint, the events that led to Zero's Requiem was meant to wrap up the entire Code Geass series since no one at that time knew if Sunrise wanted an expansion of the story. Who knew that the death of Lelouch would have sparked an intense interest for Code Geass to this day, over four years later? I do agree that a lot of things were unresolved to Code Geass R2. Considering what we know, Lelouch wanted to atone for what he did to Euphemia by fulfilling Nunnally's wish for a better world. This could only be achieve by putting the blame on Britannia's crimes upon Lelouch for the world to hate. Thereby allowing the real Zero to kill the dictator in front of the whole world. Suzaku avenged the death of Euphemia by killing her murderer and becoming a legend in the process for saving the world.

Lelouch only went with ZR because he thought Nunnally was dead, and he had been turned on by the majority of his old allies. He felt like there was no reason to live on anymore. And avenging Euphie's murderer? It was an accident, and Suzaku suspected it. Carrying it out as such would have made him a vindictive, hypocritical dick, especially since in addition to realizing Lelouch was lying in his admission of guilt, he already could have offed Lelouch much, much earlier, like when Lelouch was still amnesiac. In the end, people who screwed things up for him and/or did nothing for peace if not worked against it got happy endings instead, namely Ohgi, Villetta and Cornelia. |
