I've just seen the episode and it feels... disappointing
The episode per se was not bad but they rushed the things, without explanations and without rhythm. . Everything what it spent in the chapter could have worked, even with the open LT, if they had had more time to develop the ideas. But if you rushed all the things portrait in only one chapter it is necessary to give the weight to another aspect, which in this case must have been the LT I think the fail of this ending to fulfill the expectations was in part for cowardy of the staff to decide for only one of the girls, and decided for the open final (for economical reasons?) and do a movie which sadly I don't think resolves anything (ala Macross 7) They had the opportunity to complete one of the best series of last ten years but with this very average ending, its only a good series |

I think they built up too much material for this season and since they decided to do only 25 episodes, it was hard too difficult to conclude everything in which would have been more appropriate in a 45 episode season. GG, ;o Less storyline next time if they want to keep it short..
There are still a couple of unanswered questions too.. One thing, that still bothers me is the significant of Mao and Sheryl's relationship. I wish they did more flashback of Mao,Grace and Ranshe. I enjoyed the events before the ending, I admit it was great cg but for some reason I feel a bit disappointed that I waited all week for this to air. Dx A series with such a nice story line should be concluded with a great ending in my opinion.. @_@;;; The ending that we received clearly did not match up to expectations. L>More closure. |

Ranka was underestimed as a character in this serie by many people. The end was odd since the love triangle wasn't resolved but Ranka redeemed herself here. People can't say anymore that she is a traitor who left Frontier, killed many people.... Ranka's character was the character who had the biggest gapp with the other protagonist Sheryl ,in an anime. How they painted Sheryl and made her act in the 20 and how they made Ranka act, you can say Sheryl was overshadowing Ranka in the plot. The " dying card" like you said didn't help and made Sheryl into the heroine of the show who suffered too much even though Ranka was not what we can call a lucky girl. I'm glad Kawamori reversed like that the situation with a mature Ranka who knows what she has to do... She even slapped Sheryl like Sheryl did in the 20... She acted her age, and was even more clever since she is the one, with Brera who told Alto about the need to shoot the head not the stomach of the queen. Ranka is one of the most developped female character I have seen in an anime, But the way they made Sheryl dying and losing everything in her life wasn't that fair towards Ranka's character. People couldn't help but comparing her to Sheryl everytime , saying Sheryl deserves this, that , and Ranka is just a spoiled brat.... Ranka took the role which was imagined for her, since the beginning, in this episode. You can say whatever you want about how Sheryl is awesome, but Ranka is the one who left the biggest impression at the end Sheryl was there also, but they focused more on her feelings for Alto unlike Ranka who was really a pro here with her songs, next to Alto's dream of protecting people I know people here, now, so no, I'm not saying Sheryl didn't do anything but like Kawamori said it, all was reversed. Before, Ranka just thought about Alto for you, unlike Sheryl who was a pro... But in this episode Ranka didn't think about him and even show her tenderness to Sheryl. Sheryl like you all saw it at the end of the 24 stopped singing when she thought Alto was dead... So now she sings for Alto and Ranka for people.... People will disagree with me but that's how they painted it.... Of course Sheryl singed for the peace too but like Ranka said it to Alto, the vajra understand human now because they saw how Sheryl's songs were different to Ranka's ones. Sheryl changed like Ranka too. So I'm pretty satisfied of Ranka's character here, she is an amazing character even if you think the contrary |

I just saw the raw & I loved it, it was hilarious, I was smiling all throughout the episode, crazy rite? Maybe its cause the idea of singing saving the whole universe & bringing abt peace is new & ridiculous to me, but I adored the expected ridiculousness of it all.
I mean I hated, really hated that there was no resolution to the LT; I was disappointed as fuck, kick in the gut feeling & all; But, I guess all the spoilers probably prepared me for the open ending. I was trolled, hard & despite being mighty pissed at the troller, I find that I am mighty amused as well. I really wanted a Sheryl/Alto ending, it would have been epically awesome if S/A happened but, despite that, I still liked it. It was really funny & enjoyable somehow(not cos there was any humour in the ep but I dont know why, it was weird, I just couldnt stop smiling & lol at the ridiculousness of it all). And yeah, the mecha fighting was awesome, michael tribute was a bittersweet moment, Grace was villain extraordinaire, SMS back in action, Ranka's slap & magic cure for sheryl was actually nice, crazy & hilarious at the same time, awesome runthrough of pretty much every MF song, Sheryl & Ranka duet FTW, Alto & Brera duet... uh I mean tagteam FTW. Felt the episode had more sheryl/alto moments than ranka/alto moments-one of the saving graces of the eppy for me. Alto is an idiot but I still love him & thought he looked really pretty with Sheryl's earing at the end, Is he planning on giving it back to her at all? I'm really looking forward to the movie. Dont think its gonna stay unresolved in the movie. Both girls are clearly expecting an answer from him & sheryl did say that they would continue their conversation when everything was over, I dont see how they can manage to leave it unsolved a second time; no more loopholes to exploit, so there! Everyone was happy & content in the end. I liked ranka in this ep, even if it seemed uunreal hw quickly she snapped out of it all. Most importantly, Sheryl is alive, satisfied & content with the way things turned out & for now thats good enough for me. Sheryl will get her happy ending in the movie, I'm almost sure, I dont see how they can get out of it. The new mature ranka will be able to handle it, like a woman & a pro should, unlike the old one, so its all good. As far as I'm concerned, sheryl has already pretty much won the LT & alto's heart, all thats left is for him to acknowledge it. I neeeeeeeeeeeeedddd the movie!!!!!!!!! |

@ magnuskn...I believe I owe you some some reactions from the official Macross F BBS: Here are some general reaction highlights: - Mostly positive reactions over the announcement of the movie - Utter frustration over Alto's lack of decision - Happiness over Sheryl's recovery - Some spoke of the medeley that was used in the episode - Some were confused..."that's the ending?" - Some love for Sheryl's "Northern Cross." - People questioned the connection between Bilra and Minmei - A few are relieved that it's over. - A few were wondering about Grace's last smile. --Lone Wolf 一匹狼 |

LT aside, I thought it was a good episode overall and score it a 9. Best moments for me is Alto x Brera combo attack and Sheryl x Ranka singing together. In the end, the whole episode just made me smile.

Sheryl's Northern Cross and the Lion duet made me FUCK YEAH so hard. (Sheryl was beautiful... ;_; )
But not as hard as every time Bobby was on screen. OOOORIIIIYAAAAAAAAH!! Though some of the songs later in the episode felt squished together. Oh well. Also, mecha pr0nz. Lots of it. So good. <3 By the way, what was with Ranka casting Curaga on Sheryl? Would have been more believable if they had kissed, I think. I seriously thought Ranka was going to kiss her when she put her hands on Sheryl's cheeks. Nice shot of adrenaline there for me. Fuck you, Kawamori. Well, I'm glad that both Ranka and Sheryl are happy, at least. And, y'know, I'm not all that peeved about the ending. It was to be expected. An AxS ending would have been too good to be true. Granted, I'm a little sour that Kawamori was just sitting at his desk, as you know he was, stroking a Persian, with a "keikaku doori" grin on his face every time there was rage, butthurt, tears, or rejoice whenever he tossed out a few chicken bones of ship material to the rabid LTfags. All in all, a 10/10 episode for me. |
