I just wrote a really long review for it, but it hasn't appeared on FF.N yet. I hope it didn't eat my review T_T I spent like 30 minutes writing it >.<

[EDIT] WOOT! my review came up! *relief*

also, random note, my shorts and the like will now be all posted 2 hours earlier than normal. I changed my work time from 8 AM to 5 PM to 6:30 AM to 3 PM (30 min lunch). So check for shorts earlier, and no more really long post during lunch. Gomen T_T but the heat index here is around 103 already and last year it averaged to be 110 to 115 so we change our hours to have more cool time in the morning while the sun is just rising.

I have a short planned too :3

and "To Make a Mother Proud" is finished. I'll revamp it a tad and proof and post on FF.N and here soon. Expect a surprise!

"Fate-chan!"

Those two simple words made the blond smile more than she had in the last three months. Her two suitcases were dropped to the floor and she ran the last few steps needed to get into the arms of her best friend. Nanoha tightened the embrace and held firmly for several seconds longer than was needed. "I'm home," Fate whispered thankfully into the silken strands that clung to her lips.

"Welcome home." Nanoha slowly moved back and gazed at her friend for several long moments. "We missed you."

"I missed you too." She moved to get her suitcases and walked with Nanoha into the kitchen, allowing her friend to carry a bag for her. "It feels wonderful to be home again. Sometimes I wonder why I keep accepting these long term missions."

As they made their way to the large master bedroom, Nanoha looked over her shoulder at the woman who had always been with her. "Me too... You know, the police department here-"

"I know," Fate cut her off gently. "They are looking for an elite officer to stay here. I don't know... Going from 'Sea' to 'Land' is a huge jump... I don't think I would fit in..."

"We did just fine back then," Nanoha opened the suitcase and felt the familiar grin tug at her lips when she saw everything neatly organized and folded. "Which ones are your dirty ones?"

"All of them," Fate fanned out her black military issue uniform top. "I've been wearing this for three days in a row now." She frowned when a slight sweat smell came to her nose. "I've fabreezed it twice since I couldn't wash it, but it's still icky."

Nanoha shook her head lightly and took out some casual clothes for Fate from their closet. "Here, go shower."

"Join me?" She asked hopefully. "I could really go for a massage?"

"Sorry," Nanoha held up a hand in an apologetic manor. "I have to pack some things for Vivio. She's staying over at Erio and Caro's place."

"Oh. Okay then," Fate accepted the clothes. "I won't miss her will I? I can wait?"

"No, no. Just take a quick one? She will be home in about twenty minutes."

Fate smiled and nodded slightly. "Okay then. Don't let her leave if she gets home early okay?"

"Of course." Nanoha closed her eyes and beamed at her. "She misses Fate-chan very much."

"I'm home!" Vivio's teenage voice called out quickly as she ran through the house to get to her room. Behind her, two twenty year old young adults followed. Erio and Caro had moved in together not too long ago, and Vivio had already gone over to their place countless times in an attempt to gain the 'freedom' that her older friends had.

"Vivio, Fate-chan is home." Nanoha called from the kitchen.

Caro's face lit up. "Fate-san?" She asked Nanoha happily. "I haven't seen her since her last mission!"

Fate's voice came up then, walking into the livingroom from her bedroom while adjusting the shirt that she had just put on. "Caro, Erio, you've grown." She accepted the joint hug and moved back just enough to look at them fully. "You're taller than me," Fate noticed after a few moments.

Nanoha put a hand on her hip. "Kind of weird isn't it?"

Erio blushed and scratched his cheek. "I just hit a growth spurt is all..."

At that moment Vivio came bounding back into the room. "Hey!"

Fate turned to her at once, opening her arms and hugging the teen. "There's my little girl!"

Vivio colored darkly. "I'm not a little girl!"

"Oh?" Fate pulled back and smiled at her brightly.

Nanoha leaned against the wall and crossed her arms playfully. "That's right, Vivio is all grown up because she's a teenager now."

"That's right!" The youngest one confirmed. "I'm going to hang out with college students!" No one pointed out that the two weren't enrolled in an official college, but rather took courses on their own desires.

"It is good to see you again, Fate-san." Caro gave Fate another hug.

Erio moved to join in, getting a hug for himself as well. "I'll come by tomorrow okay, Fate-san? I'll treat you to lunch?"

Fate smiled at him and nodded. "I'd love that." She looked over at the teen and opened her arms. "Vivio? Hug before you go off?"

"That's embarrassing, Fate-san." Vivio told her, cheeks still red. "I'm lot a little girl anymore."

Fate froze in place with a shocked look on her face, watching helplessly as the three walked together out of the living room. Shortly thereafter, the front door closed and Nanoha finally moved to stand by her friend. "We've..." Fate slowly began, looking over at blue eyes while hers started to water. "Really grown apart, haven't we?"

"Come here..." Nanoha gave her a tight hug and stroked her friend's back when a broken sob came into her shoulder. "Fate-chan..."

"I don't want to be Fate-san!" The words came out huskily as the tears took her over. "I want to be Fate-mama!"

"Shhhh.... It's okay. You'll always be Fate-mama." Nanoha held her closer. "She is just going through that phase right now..."

Slowly the two separated and the blond tried to wipe her eyes. "I'm sorry..."

"No, it's okay..."

"Vivio is your daughter, I shouldn't be upset..."

"Fate-chan!" Nanoha almost shrieked out the name, making her friend look at her sadly. "You raised her just as much as me! You're Fate-mama!"

"...Thanks...But it's okay..."

"No it's not!" Nanoha's voice rose again, eyes narrowing. "I couldn't do it by myself! If you weren't there, I don't know what I would have done!" She softened when Fate's scared red eyes met hers again. "Fate-chan... I asked you to help me raise her because I needed you. She needed you. And she still does."

The two remained silent for several moments before they heard the front door open. Both women looked at the door and saw Vivio walk into the house, embarrassed. "...Forgot something..." She told them softly as she walked past. Fate leaned against Nanoha and tried to dry her eyes before Vivio came back, now holding a stuffed rabbit that looked beaten and worn. It had several stitches on it from where it was torn and sewn back together and in general, looked like it had seen a lot of love in it's life. "Can't sleep well.... with it," Vivio told them, looking away.

Nanoha nudged Fate, making the blond cover a shaking smile. It was her that brought back that very same stuffed animal from one of her missions years ago. "Vivio...?"

The girl looked away and then glanced at Fate once more before walking over to her and taking the offered hug. "You're going to stay for a while this time...Right Fate-mama?"

Fate held her tightly and nodded. "Mmh! I'm going to apply for a position in town tomorrow."

Nanoha smiled at the two in front of her fondly. 'I'm glad to have my family back together...

Vita helped Nanoha clean up the commissary after the celebration of another group of trainees passing their coursework. It had been a long month, but she and Nanoha were pleased with the ending results.

“Another group flies away from the nest, Vita-chan,” smiled Nanoha as she wiped down a table.

“At least, this group has a better chance of survival than the last group we had,” replied Vita.

“No kidding,” chuckled Nanoha in a rare confession.

The tables soon sparkled as trainer and assistant turned to leave.

“Wait!” came a cry from the kitchen, “Captain! Please, wait!”

Nanoha spun around with Raising Heart ready for action but relaxed when she saw the portly cook come waddling out of the kitchen with a worried look on her face.

“What is it?” Nanoha asked.

“There are too many leftovers from the reception. The freezer’s jammed full, and I have an entire case of Popsicles left over. Can you guys take them home?”

Nanoha and Vita looked at each other in confusion.

“Vivio might like some Popsicles,” Vita shrugged.

“Vivio would gnaw on a lead pipe so long as it was covered in sugar,” Nanoha sighed before turning to the desperate cook, “Here, I’ll take a bag of them. Fate likes them too.”

The cook turned toward Vita, and the redheaded Knight blushed in indecision.

“Give her a bag as well,” ordered Nanoha with a smirk.

“I didn’t say that I wanted any, Nanoha!”

“Who are you trying to fool, Vita-chan?” Nanoha laughed, “But if you really don’t want them, I’m sure there’s bound to be at least one person in your house who will.”

“That’s true,” said Vita with a stiff upper lip, “Hayate might like them.”

“Suuuuuuure,” teased Nanoha rolling her eyes.

Vita walked home carrying her clear plastic bag full of Popsicles while trying to keep it from dripping on the sidewalk.

“I wonder what the big fuss over these is?” she asked herself while liberating a Popsicle from its packaging.

‘I’ve never heard of a blue raspberry before,’ wondered Vita as she looked at the large blue frozen treat, ‘Do they really exist?’

She didn’t deliberate long before sticking the blue Popsicle in her mouth. Instantly, a smile pulled back her cheeks, and a look of child-like delight appeared on her face.

“These are wonderful!” she rejoiced while taking out another one.

By the time she returned home, she only had four Popsicles left, and she had decided that sharing would not be an option for these delicious pieces of frozen ambrosia. Thus, she placed them in the back of the Hayate’s freezer while she walked back to her room to work on filing her observation reports.

Shamal came walking into the kitchen with Agito following her.

“Thank you so much for helping me today, Agito,” said Shamal softly, “I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t passed by.”

“It was my pleasure, Shamal,” replied Agito politely.

Shamal opened the freezer to grab a couple ice cubes for her glass of water.

“Oooo…Popsicles!” gasped Agito as she peered into the foggy freezer.

“Here,” Shamal said sweetly while handing a Popsicle to Agito, “Consider it a ‘Thank you’ for your hard work.”

The tiny unison device beamed as she grappled with the treat that was as large as she was. She buzzed away happily causing Shamal to smile.

“What did you do?!” yelled a voice from the hallway.

“Oh, I just gave Agito a Popsicle for all her hard work today,” replied Shamal innocently, “What’s wrong? Did she drip on the carpet?”

“No!” Vita shouted in anger, “Those were my Popsicles! You can’t give away things that aren't yours!”

“It was only one,” Shamal cowered trying to defend herself, “I’ll replace it.”

“Two!” Vita yelled while holding up two of her fingers, “Two of MY Popsicles!”

“No, I only gave Agito one.”

“It will be two! Two of my precious Popsicles!”

“What makes you say-“

A loud wail erupted from the other room, and the cry quickly sped to the kitchen. Shamal stared in shock as Rein’s tearful face looked into hers. Vita’s scowl deepened.

“Why (hic) did Agito get a Popsicle and not meeeeeeeee?” the unison device cried as tears and snot fell everywhere, “I helped tooooooo!”

Shamal looked at Vita for some sort of rescue, but the redhead only glared at her with a look that said, “I told you so.”

“I’m sorry, Rein, but they’re Vita’s, and I gave one to Agito by mistake.”

The silver-haired unison turned her teary eyes to Vita and flew over to the pint-sized Knight.

“Vita…(hic)…”

“NO!”

“WHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!” Rein cried, and her face contorted in her emotional distress.

“Vita, please?” begged Shamal covering her ears as the screams echoed throughout the kitchen.

Vita’s tightly drawn mouth twisted as her annoyance with Rein grew.

“FINE!” Vita finally shouted at Rein, “But you can’t have one now!”

“WHHHHY NOT!” cried Rein.

“Because only happy people can have Popsicles,” said Vita gruffly, “Whiners can eat their own frozen tears!”

“I’m not (hic) a whiner!” sobbed Rein.

“Well, you’re not getting a Popsicle like this either,” said Vita smugly, “No happy; no Popsicle.”

Vita tried her best not to laugh at the floating face a few inches away from her’s as it contorted and struggled to smile. Rein’s eyes were bloodshot, and her cheeks were stained with tear trails, yet there was a giant fake, toothy smile plastered on her face. It looked psychotic.

Vita couldn’t control herself any longer and burst into laughter while taking one of her treasured popsicles out of the freezer and tossing it at Rein. The tiny unison device’s face transformed into a real smile as soon as she received the treat, and she buzzed back from where she came from yelling, “I got one too, Agito! So Nanny-nanny-boo-boo!”

Vita’s mood soured as she listened to the unison devices enjoying her Popsicles.

“I’m sorry, Vita,” said Shamal cautiously, “At least, there are two more right?”

Vita started to walk to her room but stopped and said, “Wait a second! What happened to you replacing them?”

But when she looked behind her, she found that Shamal had already made her escape. She grumpily went back to typing her report

“She just gives away my Popsicles like…” Vita’s mumblings trailed off as she focused on her report and typed angrily.

“Why so glum, Vita-chan?” Vita heard Hayate say, “There are Popsicles in the fridge.”

Vita looked up in shock to see Hayate and Zafira munching on the last of her Popsicles.

“My…Pop…” she managed to say before her voice broke into sobs.

“Oh, no Popsicles for you,” said Hayate, her lips smacking as she sucked on the Popsicle, “Only happy people get Popsicles.”

Vita awaked confuesd, she had have that strange dream again, she, dressed with a very ellegant european costume, with a doll on her hads, tring to reach that door, but this time, when she reached it, a strangue man stoped her from opening it, it was a tall man, but Vita couldn't remember his face

She found herself on a hospital bed, flowers and chocolates around her with leyends like "get better soon" or "we love you"

"Vita! You finally awake!" Vita turned and saw Shamal getting inside the room, the doctor aproached to her and kissed the red haired girl in the forehead before start checking her eyes and face in order to see if everything was okay

"Shamal. Wh-What happened?"

"You were unconcius for 3 days"

"3 days?! But... but..."

"You were druged Vita, with a strange kind of allusinogen, when we found you, your blood was full of it, the good thing is that I managed to aislate it, creating a counter sustance who encapsulated the drug allowing your body to expulsate it through your sweat"

"Uh?" Vita replyed totally confused, Shamal just giggled

"I mean that I created the antidote... but if I had delayed a few hours more... your mind would broke, this sustance create strong allusinations who are not, well... very nice"

"Yeah, that's for sur..." Before Vita could finish, she remembered what happened on the roof in the junkyard

"Maligno! Were is he?"

"He escaped"

"Damn it! And Parca?"

"Eh... Who?"

"Parca! The guy who was with Maligno! The one who launched me the gas, that, made me this!"

"Don't... you'r telling me that this Parca guy used the allusinogen as a... weapon?"

"The guy is not a human" Vita said "He launched the gas from his mouth, and he said something... strange..."

"He said 'You are not as strong as she said' or something like that"

Really confused, Nanoha get dressed and quickly ran downstairs in order to randevous with Hayate who was alredy sited in the driver's site of the vehicle, Nanoha opened the door of the passager's site and got inside the vehicle, Fate started to drive without saing a word

Fate toke from her pocket a paper and gave it to Nanoha, she opened it and saw what it was, what she was tring to hide from Fate since long ago: Vivio's Notes

"Oh, crap" Nanoha replyed

"5 on magical actitudes & aplications, 5 on belkan escriture and lecture, she never presented half of the homeworks and 0 on conduct!"

"I... I'm sorry Fate..."

"Why you never told me?"

"I knew that you would get angry with her"

"And why shouldn't I get angry with her?! Nanoha, she's 16! She is no longer a little kid, she must understeand that not all is 'games and friends'... I know that you really love her, and belive me, I love her as much as you... but she must madurate"

"I know... but, I still saw her as my little girl"

"Nanoha, I..." Before Fate could finish, the sound of the vehicle's comunicator started to bip, Fate activated it and in the olografic screen appeared Hayate's face

"Hey, I finally found you, I was just about to call the aereal and naval force, were have you been?"

"Hi Hayate, eh, sorry, we are a bit late, but we'll arrive in a few minutes" Fate replyed

"Well, you better get hurry, Vita just awaked and she needs to tell us something important"

"Vita awaked? Good news! Yeah, we are on our way" Nanoha replyed

"An allusionogen Gas?" Fate asked

"Yes, Vita was drugen with a powerfull allusinogen gas" Shamal replyed

"No" Vita replyed "Another guy named Parca, he shooted the gas against me"

"Vita, we searched the data and there is no information about any criminal named 'Parca' are you sure?"

"Totally! The guy wasn't human, and he was sided with Maligno, so if we find Maligno, we find Parca"

"Right, we alredy have an entire squad of intelligence searching for Maligno" Hayate said while standing up from her chair "We only need to wait for him to make a bad move and we will have him"

While Hayate keeped talking, Nanoha noticed that Vita looked very strange, she aproached to the little mage and asked her

"Hey Vita, it's everytinh Okay?"

"Uh? Yeah, yeah... uh, don't be silly! Oh, I forgot to ask, Is Tiana Okay?"

"Yes, she's fine and worried for you, she thinks that is her fault that Maligno managed to escape"

"Mmm... Maligno tricked her, it's not her fault"

Nanoha didn't know, but Vita was worried about that strange dream of she, tring to reach that door, it looked so real, morte than a dream it seemed like a memory, an old one

In that moment Signum entered in the room

"Hayate"

"What is it Signum?" Hayate asked

"We found him"

The expensive vehicles arrived to the Auto Parking of the main Mall of CentralCity, mens well armed get down of the cars, drug traficants

"Well, my dear friends! Nice to see you again!" Maligno said aproaching to the leaders of the mens with Parca walking behind him

"Keep your formalities for yourself!" One of the traficants said

"Oh... come on! Don't need to get angry" Maligno replyed

"Really?" The traficant made a signal and two of the mans pulled out a corpse of a guy out of one of the car's trunk and droped it at Maligno's feets "This is what your stupid sustance makes to our clients, how are we suposed to sell drugs to the adicts of the city, if there are no adicts on the city?!"

"But they are buing, no?"

"Listen you Asshole! We are not very pleased, in fact, maybe we will blow your head and the one of your friend with the Halloween mask just for fun, how about that?"

"Oh my sweet heart, we don't want to start an unecesary fight. Did we?" A female's voice replyed

A woman dressed in black appeared behind Maligno and Parca, she wasn't very tall, her entire body was covered with a long black tunic, black gloves, and a silver maks covering her face, she had in her hands a long black cane, she stood in the front of the traficants "I asure you that our sustance is the best that you can find, and it's cheap, we had alredy on that truck 5 tons of the stuff and I'm only asking you something in exchange... Did you have it?"

The traficant pulled out of his jacket an old scroll, it looked very old, tied with a little red rope

"Ahhh,my dear, I could kiss you for that, now give it to me and you can take your drug" The misterius woman replyed

"You know" The traficant said "I was very curius of why you were giving to me all that drug only for a pice of paper that I stoled from the belkan museum, it was very illustrative to find all this about... the order of the 7 white kings... And the Master Light"

"I told you to NOT READ IT!"

"The price is doubled... and I want money, not your stupid Drug"

"I will not bagger with a stupid Drug traficant like you!" The strange woman sounded very angry " Give me now the scroll and I'll conciderate to not kill you"

"To bad you pea..."


One of the cars expolted interrupting the guy, after that Nanoha appeared among the traficants

"TSAB! You are under arrest!"

"Shit! RUUUUUN!" The traficant said, all the mens started tyo run away, but the place got full of mages and all them were catched"

"This Idiots again!" Maligno said

"Time to go" Parca replyed

Maligno, Parca and the woman in Black ran back to the truck in wich they arrived

"Is he!" Vita screamed pointing at Parca "Some of the mages ran at the fugitives and tried to get them, but Parca launched the strange gas against them, the mages falled screaming and covering their faces, Maligno and the other got aboard the truck and started to drive out of the complex

"Oh no, you don't" Vita said while starting to chase the vehicle, the driver was good, Vita saw that Maligno, Parca and the woman in Black ran at the back of the truck, so the driver was another one, Vita keeped fling behind the vehicle, she didn't wanted to attack it directly, because she wanted to capture them alive

"Stop!!! Stop right now!!!" Vita screamed while following the Vehicle but in an instant, the vehicle made a 180º turn and now was runing againt Vita, the mage stoped and she managed to saw the driver, the only thing she saw was a blue face, a human blue face after that, in a green flash the vehicle disapeared, it was teletransported, someone teletransported the truck out of the place

"What the Hell was that?!" Vita said to herself, only a very powerfull mage would be able to teletransportate something so big in less than a second

"Vita!" Nanoha screamed while fling in direction to the little mage

"Were are they?"

"Someone teletransportated them out, I wonder what did they wanted?"

"I think that it was this" Nanoha said while showing a strange, old scroll to Vita

EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot, Page claim... uhmmm

There's something about this chapter that doesn't feel right, but I can't just point at it and say 'This is bad.' Maybe it's missing the excitement from the first chapter... or maybe its something else... there's just really not much I can think of commenting about.

Erio and Caro had moved in together not too long ago, and Vivio had already gone over to their place countless times in an attempt to gain the 'freedom' that her older friends had.

"Vivio, Fate-chan is home." Nanoha called from the kitchen.

Caro's face lit up. "Fate-san?" She asked Nanoha happily. "I haven't seen her since her last mission!"

Fate's voice came up then, walking into the livingroom from her bedroom while adjusting the shirt that she had just put on. "Caro, Erio, you've grown." She accepted the joint hug and moved back just enough to look at them fully. "You're taller than me," Fate noticed after a few moments.

Nanoha put a hand on her hip. "Kind of weird isn't it?"

Erio blushed and scratched his cheek. "I just hit a growth spurt is all..."

At that moment Vivio came bounding back into the room. "Hey!"

Fate turned to her at once, opening her arms and hugging the teen. "There's my little girl!"

Vivio colored darkly. "I'm not a little girl!"

"Oh?" Fate pulled back and smiled at her brightly.

Nanoha leaned against the wall and crossed her arms playfully. "That's right, Vivio is all grown up because she's a teenager now."

"That's right!" The youngest one confirmed. "I'm going to hang out with college students!" No one pointed out that the two weren't enrolled in an official college, but rather took courses on their own desires.

"It is good to see you again, Fate-san." Caro gave Fate another hug.

Erio moved to join in, getting a hug for himself as well. "I'll come by tomorrow okay, Fate-san? I'll treat you to lunch?"

Fate smiled at him and nodded. "I'd love that." She looked over at the teen and opened her arms. "Vivio? Hug before you go off?"

"That's embarrassing, Fate-san." Vivio told her, cheeks still red. "I'm lot a little girl anymore."

Fate froze in place with a shocked look on her face, watching helplessly as the three walked together out of the living room. Shortly thereafter, the front door closed and Nanoha finally moved to stand by her friend. "We've..." Fate slowly began, looking over at blue eyes while hers started to water. "Really grown apart, haven't we?"

"Come here..." Nanoha gave her a tight hug and stroked her friend's back when a broken sob came into her shoulder. "Fate-chan..."

"I don't want to be Fate-san!" The words came out huskily as the tears took her over. "I want to be Fate-mama!"

"Shhhh.... It's okay. You'll always be Fate-mama." Nanoha held her closer. "She is just going through that phase right now..."

Slowly the two separated and the blond tried to wipe her eyes. "I'm sorry..."

"No, it's okay..."

"Vivio is your daughter, I shouldn't be upset..."

"Fate-chan!" Nanoha almost shrieked out the name, making her friend look at her sadly. "You raised her just as much as me! You're Fate-mama!"

"...Thanks...But it's okay..."

"No it's not!" Nanoha's voice rose again, eyes narrowing. "I couldn't do it by myself! If you weren't there, I don't know what I would have done!" She softened when Fate's scared red eyes met hers again. "Fate-chan... I asked you to help me raise her because I needed you. She needed you. And she still does."

The two remained silent for several moments before they heard the front door open. Both women looked at the door and saw Vivio walk into the house, embarrassed. "...Forgot something..." She told them softly as she walked past. Fate leaned against Nanoha and tried to dry her eyes before Vivio came back, now holding a stuffed rabbit that looked beaten and worn. It had several stitches on it from where it was torn and sewn back together and in general, looked like it had seen a lot of love in it's life. "Can't sleep well.... with it," Vivio told them, looking away.

Nanoha nudged Fate, making the blond cover a shaking smile. It was her that brought back that very same stuffed animal from one of her missions years ago. "Vivio...?"

The girl looked away and then glanced at Fate once more before walking over to her and taking the offered hug. "You're going to stay for a while this time...Right Fate-mama?"

Fate held her tightly and nodded. "Mmh! I'm going to apply for a position in town tomorrow."

Nanoha smiled at the two in front of her fondly. 'I'm glad to have my family back together...

Awesome chapter, as always. The only issue I've found was Hayate's chosen signing name, 'Cincinnatus'. Although it's clear what point she was trying to get across by using that name, that meaning would probably be lost to the average 'The Robe' reader and to the average voter. Compared to 'Trallus' which is stated to be important in Mid-Childan History, Cincinnatus is only important in Earth history, a small non administered planet. Considering the number of worlds that are under TSAB administration is probably very big, learning the history of every one of them would probably be a colossal task, not considering all the non-administered worlds. So it's unlikely that anybody except a select few would know what Cincinnatus actually is supposed to represent, and wouldn't just shrug it off as just some random name.

Also, it would probably help Lethir determine who is behind Cincinnatus (before Hayate stated it publicly). Being knowledge of the more select kind, he could lower the number from the billions of people on Mid who could write to The Robe, to less than a thousand who are either Earth-born or have some sort of ties to Earth that would allow them to have such knowledge.

The same would probably apply to the 'David and Goliath' thing at the end, but I guess that could just pass by as a figure of speech.

"I know," Fate cut her off gently. "They are looking for an elite officer to stay here. I don't know... Going from 'Sea' to 'Land' is a huge jump... I don't think I would fit in..."

"We did just fine back then," Nanoha opened the suitcase and felt the familiar grin tug at her lips when she saw everything neatly organized and folded. "Which ones are your dirty ones?"

"All of them," Fate fanned out her black military issue uniform top. "I've been wearing this for three days in a row now." She frowned when a slight sweat smell came to her nose. "I've fabreezed it twice since I couldn't wash it, but it's still icky."

Nanoha shook her head lightly and took out some casual clothes for Fate from their closet. "Here, go shower."

"Join me?" She asked hopefully. "I could really go for a massage?"

"Sorry," Nanoha held up a hand in an apologetic manor. "I have to pack some things for Vivio. She's staying over at Erio and Caro's place."

"Oh. Okay then," Fate accepted the clothes. "I won't miss her will I? I can wait?"

"No, no. Just take a quick one? She will be home in about twenty minutes."

I recommend this fic, give it an opportunity, it only has 3 chapters yet and I can’t wait for the next one, the plot is very interesting ^^

"Vita, we searched the data and there is no information about any criminal named 'Parca' are you sure?"

"Totally! The guy wasn't human, and he was sided with Maligno, so if we find Maligno, we find Parca"

"Yes, she's fine and worried for you, she thinks that is her fault that Maligno managed to escape"

Nanoha didn't know, but Vita was worried about that strange dream of she, tring to reach that door, it looked so real, morte than a dream it seemed like a memory, an old one

"Well, my dear friends! Nice to see you again!" Maligno said aproaching to the leaders of the mens with Parca walking behind him

"Keep your formalities for yourself!" One of the traficants said

"Oh... come on! Don't need to get angry" Maligno replyed

"Really?" The traficant made a signal and two of the mans pulled out a corpse of a guy out of one of the car's trunk and droped it at Maligno's feets "This is what your stupid sustance makes to our clients, how are we suposed to sell drugs to the adicts of the city, if there are no adicts on the city?!"

"But they are buing, no?"

"Listen you Asshole! We are not very pleased, in fact, maybe we will blow your head and the one of your friend with the Halloween mask just for fun, how about that?"

"Oh my sweet heart, we don't want to start an unecesary fight. Did we?" A female's voice replyed

A woman dressed in black appeared behind Maligno and Parca, she wasn't very tall, her entire body was covered with a long black tunic, black gloves, and a silver maks covering her face, she had in her hands a long black cane, she stood in the front of the traficants "I asure you that our sustance is the best that you can find, and it's cheap, we had alredy on that truck 5 tons of the stuff and I'm only asking you something in exchange... Did you have it?"

The traficant pulled out of his jacket an old scroll, it looked very old, tied with a little red rope

"Ahhh,my dear, I could kiss you for that, now give it to me and you can take your drug" The misterius woman replyed

"You know" The traficant said "I was very curius of why you were giving to me all that drug only for a pice of paper that I stoled from the belkan museum, it was very illustrative to find all this about... the order of the 7 white kings... And the Master Light"

"I told you to NOT READ IT!"

"The price is doubled... and I want money, not your stupid Drug"

"I will not bagger with a stupid Drug traficant like you!" The strange woman sounded very angry " Give me now the scroll and I'll conciderate to not kill you"

One of the cars expolted interrupting the guy, after that Nanoha appeared among the traficants

"TSAB! You are under arrest!"

"Shit! RUUUUUN!" The traficant said, all the mens started tyo run away, but the place got full of mages and all them were catched"

"This Idiots again!" Maligno said

"Time to go" Parca replyed

Maligno, Parca and the woman in Black ran back to the truck in wich they arrived

"Is he!" Vita screamed pointing at Parca "Some of the mages ran at the fugitives and tried to get them, but Parca launched the strange gas against them, the mages falled screaming and covering their faces, Maligno and the other got aboard the truck and started to drive out of the complex

"Oh no, you don't" Vita said while starting to chase the vehicle, the driver was good, Vita saw that Maligno, Parca and the woman in Black ran at the back of the truck, so the driver was another one, Vita keeped fling behind the vehicle, she didn't wanted to attack it directly, because she wanted to capture them alive

"Stop!!! Stop right now!!!" Vita screamed while following the Vehicle but in an instant, the vehicle made a 180º turn and now was runing againt Vita, the mage stoped and she managed to saw the driver, the only thing she saw was a blue face, a human blue face after that, in a green flash the vehicle disapeared, it was teletransported, someone teletransported the truck out of the place

"What the Hell was that?!" Vita said to herself, only a very powerfull mage would be able to teletransportate something so big in less than a second

"Vita!" Nanoha screamed while fling in direction to the little mage

"Were are they?"

"Someone teletransportated them out, I wonder what did they wanted?"

"I think that it was this" Nanoha said while showing a strange, old scroll to Vita

Vita helped Nanoha clean up the commissary after the celebration of another group of trainees passing their coursework. It had been a long month, but she and Nanoha were pleased with the ending results.

“Another group flies away from the nest, Vita-chan,” smiled Nanoha as she wiped down a table.

“At least, this group has a better chance of survival than the last group we had,” replied Vita.

“No kidding,” chuckled Nanoha in a rare confession.

The tables soon sparkled as trainer and assistant turned to leave.

“Wait!” came a cry from the kitchen, “Captain! Please, wait!”

Nanoha spun around with Raising Heart ready for action but relaxed when she saw the portly cook come waddling out of the kitchen with a worried look on her face.

“What is it?” Nanoha asked.

“There are too many leftovers from the reception. The freezer’s jammed full, and I have an entire case of Popsicles left over. Can you guys take them home?”

Nanoha and Vita looked at each other in confusion.

“Vivio might like some Popsicles,” Vita shrugged.

“Vivio would gnaw on a lead pipe so long as it was covered in sugar,” Nanoha sighed before turning to the desperate cook, “Here, I’ll take a bag of them. Fate likes them too.”

The cook turned toward Vita, and the redheaded Knight blushed in indecision.

“Give her a bag as well,” ordered Nanoha with a smirk.

“I didn’t say that I wanted any, Nanoha!”

“Who are you trying to fool, Vita-chan?” Nanoha laughed, “But if you really don’t want them, I’m sure there’s bound to be at least one person in your house who will.”

“That’s true,” said Vita with a stiff upper lip, “Hayate might like them.”

“Suuuuuuure,” teased Nanoha rolling her eyes.

Vita walked home carrying her clear plastic bag full of Popsicles while trying to keep it from dripping on the sidewalk.

“I wonder what the big fuss over these is?” she asked herself while liberating a Popsicle from its packaging.

‘I’ve never heard of a blue raspberry before,’ wondered Vita as she looked at the large blue frozen treat, ‘Do they really exist?’

She didn’t deliberate long before sticking the blue Popsicle in her mouth. Instantly, a smile pulled back her cheeks, and a look of child-like delight appeared on her face.

“These are wonderful!” she rejoiced while taking out another one.

By the time she returned home, she only had four Popsicles left, and she had decided that sharing would not be an option for these delicious pieces of frozen ambrosia. Thus, she placed them in the back of the Hayate’s freezer while she walked back to her room to work on filing her observation reports.

Shamal came walking into the kitchen with Agito following her.

“Thank you so much for helping me today, Agito,” said Shamal softly, “I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t passed by.”

“It was my pleasure, Shamal,” replied Agito politely.

Shamal opened the freezer to grab a couple ice cubes for her glass of water.

“Oooo…Popsicles!” gasped Agito as she peered into the foggy freezer.

“Here,” Shamal said sweetly while handing a Popsicle to Agito, “Consider it a ‘Thank you’ for your hard work.”

The tiny unison device beamed as she grappled with the treat that was as large as she was. She buzzed away happily causing Shamal to smile.

“What did you do?!” yelled a voice from the hallway.

“Oh, I just gave Agito a Popsicle for all her hard work today,” replied Shamal innocently, “What’s wrong? Did she drip on the carpet?”

“No!” Vita shouted in anger, “Those were my Popsicles! You can’t give away things that aren't yours!”

“It was only one,” Shamal cowered trying to defend herself, “I’ll replace it.”

“Two!” Vita yelled while holding up two of her fingers, “Two of MY Popsicles!”

“No, I only gave Agito one.”

“It will be two! Two of my precious Popsicles!”

“What makes you say-“

A loud wail erupted from the other room, and the cry quickly sped to the kitchen. Shamal stared in shock as Rein’s tearful face looked into hers. Vita’s scowl deepened.

“Why (hic) did Agito get a Popsicle and not meeeeeeeee?” the unison device cried as tears and snot fell everywhere, “I helped tooooooo!”

Shamal looked at Vita for some sort of rescue, but the redhead only glared at her with a look that said, “I told you so.”

“I’m sorry, Rein, but they’re Vita’s, and I gave one to Agito by mistake.”

The silver-haired unison turned her teary eyes to Vita and flew over to the pint-sized Knight.

“Vita…(hic)…”

“NO!”

“WHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!” Rein cried, and her face contorted in her emotional distress.

“Vita, please?” begged Shamal covering her ears as the screams echoed throughout the kitchen.

Vita’s tightly drawn mouth twisted as her annoyance with Rein grew.

“FINE!” Vita finally shouted at Rein, “But you can’t have one now!”

“WHHHHY NOT!” cried Rein.

“Because only happy people can have Popsicles,” said Vita gruffly, “Whiners can eat their own frozen tears!”

“I’m not (hic) a whiner!” sobbed Rein.

“Well, you’re not getting a Popsicle like this either,” said Vita smugly, “No happy; no Popsicle.”

Vita tried her best not to laugh at the floating face a few inches away from her’s as it contorted and struggled to smile. Rein’s eyes were bloodshot, and her cheeks were stained with tear trails, yet there was a giant fake, toothy smile plastered on her face. It looked psychotic.

Vita couldn’t control herself any longer and burst into laughter while taking one of her treasured popsicles out of the freezer and tossing it at Rein. The tiny unison device’s face transformed into a real smile as soon as she received the treat, and she buzzed back from where she came from yelling, “I got one too, Agito! So Nanny-nanny-boo-boo!”

Vita’s mood soured as she listened to the unison devices enjoying her Popsicles.

“I’m sorry, Vita,” said Shamal cautiously, “At least, there are two more right?”

Vita started to walk to her room but stopped and said, “Wait a second! What happened to you replacing them?”

But when she looked behind her, she found that Shamal had already made her escape. She grumpily went back to typing her report

“She just gives away my Popsicles like…” Vita’s mumblings trailed off as she focused on her report and typed angrily.

“Why so glum, Vita-chan?” Vita heard Hayate say, “There are Popsicles in the fridge.”

Vita looked up in shock to see Hayate and Zafira munching on the last of her Popsicles.

“My…Pop…” she managed to say before her voice broke into sobs.

“Oh, no Popsicles for you,” said Hayate, her lips smacking as she sucked on the Popsicle, “Only happy people get Popsicles.”

Fate sat happily at the kitchen table. Her favorite show was on the TV, and she had big glass of milk and a full box of Oreos in front of her. A smile could help but form on her face as she dunked the cookies into the milk.

"Why do you dunk them?” asked Nanoha as she turned the corner into the living area.

“Why not?” answered Fate insulted, “The milk softens the cookie part just slightly, and it melts in your mouth.”

“Not in your hand, right?” joked Nanoha.

“Huh?”

“Never mind,” Nanoha sighed as the M&M reference flew over Fate’s head.

The brunette sat in the chair next to Fate and pulled out one of the cookies from the box.

“I don’t even get how you like the cookie part,” said Nanoha holding up an Oreo in front of her, "It’s only the white stuff in the middle that’s good.”

“Says the girl who can de-marshmallow a box of Lucky Charms in the time it takes me to drive home from the grocery store.”

Nanoha shot an annoyed glare at Fate and then turned her attention to the cookie in her hand. She twisted the two halves apart exposing the thin circle of white cream on one of the cookie halves. Using the end of her tongue, she liberated the white cream away from the crunchy cookie and smiled as she savored the taste.

Fate sniffed indignantly, “You’re missing the best part when you do that. The cookie has texture, and it’s not as sickeningly sweet as the cream part.”

“Let me make your day then,” said Nanoha as she placed the cookie halves back together again albeit without cream in the middle and sat the reconstructed cookie in front of a stunned Fate.

“Wait!” yelled Fate, “Just because I like the cookie part doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciated the cream.”

The crinkle of the inner lining of the Oreo box cut off her argument as Nanoha grabbed another cookie from it.

“Stop that!”

“Nyahahaha,” Nanoha chuckled as she handed another de-creamed Oreo to Fate.

Fate sighed as she dunked the empty cookie into her milk.

It was raining. Thunders could be heard. She was scared. Hidden in a box. Avoid the people. She had escaped. The circus left behind. Hungry. Had to find food. Hated water. Had to avoid people.

A blond teenager was walking to her home. It had been a horrible day in school once again. Sure it was worthy because her friends were there, which was the only thing that she liked, and because it give her time to sleep.

Suddenly she felt a drop in her head. “Great, now it´s going to rain” the girl commented irritated. She had a bad day and now this. Surely some major force was conspiring against her. Unpacking an umbrella she walked faster. Ten minutes later she regretted not taking the bus to her house. It seemed like the sky was falling in her opinion.

She walked as fast as she could until she arrived at an alley. It was a shortcut to her home and she wanted to arrive as fast as possible to avoid getting more wet. In the middle of the alley, she found something that made her stop. A brunette on the floor unconscious, dressed in rags. She would have thought that she was a random addict, except for the cat ears and the tail that she had.

She pondered the situation. If she let the girl in that place, she could die. She could call an ambulance and let it go. But something in the back in her mind told her that it was a bad idea.

“Stupid conscience” she muttered while she tried to carry the other girl. Her house wasn’t far away and she supposed nobody would see her carrying a unconscious girl.

The blond arrived to her house with the cat girl in her arms. She had to wet herself thanks to the strange and she hadn’t waked up. Deciding that she better dry herself and the cat girl, she carried to her room and put her in the bed. She was going to change the sheets anyway. She took a towel and quickly dried her hair and face. She would take a bath as fast as she could. With all the care in the world, she dried the other girl´s face and hair. She, more carefully, rubbed the girl´s arms, thanks to the cuts that she had.

Finishing, the blonde undressed the cat girl. It was incredible that the brunette was still asleep. When the towel was passed trough the girl´s back, she moaned of pain. A recent cut was the cause of the pain as the blonde saw.

Dressing her with a pink shirt, that was big enough to cover half of her body, she quickly went to her bathroom. Taking a long bath, she thought why she had helped the unknown girl. Sure she couldn’t have let her there, but that was not all. Maybe she didn’t want to be alone anymore or maybe the girl reminded of her. Or she could be thinking to hard about it.

Warm.

Not wet. Rain heard from far away. Light. Comfortable. She opened her eyes. Where was she? Footsteps. A person. She had to escape. She saw the window. She had to leave before the person arrived. Tried to open the window. She couldn’t. The door opened.

“You are awake” The other said. She noticed that the other girl was in the window “What are you doing?” She asked in curious tone.

She had to escape. To leave. She would hurt her. She would hit her.
“Come here” The girl said with a smile. She would be hurt if she didn’t obey. She knew it. She got closer. A hand moved. Pain would come. “Here good girl” She petted her head. She was confused. She tilted her head.

“Do you have a name?” the blonde asked. She didn’t know if the cat girl could talk.

“Nanoha?” the blonde asked. The other girl nodded slowly. “Mine´s Fate” she petted her head again “I am going to take care of you okay?” The brunette stood there not understanding the meaning of the words and yet feeling happy.

Those two simple words made the blond smile more than she had in the last three months. Her two suitcases were dropped to the floor and she ran the last few steps needed to get into the arms of her best friend. Nanoha tightened the embrace and held firmly for several seconds longer than was needed. "I'm home," Fate whispered thankfully into the silken strands that clung to her lips.

"Welcome home." Nanoha slowly moved back and gazed at her friend for several long moments. "We missed you."

"I missed you too." She moved to get her suitcases and walked with Nanoha into the kitchen, allowing her friend to carry a bag for her. "It feels wonderful to be home again. Sometimes I wonder why I keep accepting these long term missions."

As they made their way to the large master bedroom, Nanoha looked over her shoulder at the woman who had always been with her. "Me too... You know, the police department here-"

"I know," Fate cut her off gently. "They are looking for an elite officer to stay here. I don't know... Going from 'Sea' to 'Land' is a huge jump... I don't think I would fit in..."

"We did just fine back then," Nanoha opened the suitcase and felt the familiar grin tug at her lips when she saw everything neatly organized and folded. "Which ones are your dirty ones?"

"All of them," Fate fanned out her black military issue uniform top. "I've been wearing this for three days in a row now." She frowned when a slight sweat smell came to her nose. "I've fabreezed it twice since I couldn't wash it, but it's still icky."

Nanoha shook her head lightly and took out some casual clothes for Fate from their closet. "Here, go shower."

"Join me?" She asked hopefully. "I could really go for a massage?"

"Sorry," Nanoha held up a hand in an apologetic manor. "I have to pack some things for Vivio. She's staying over at Erio and Caro's place."

"Oh. Okay then," Fate accepted the clothes. "I won't miss her will I? I can wait?"

"No, no. Just take a quick one? She will be home in about twenty minutes."

Fate smiled and nodded slightly. "Okay then. Don't let her leave if she gets home early okay?"

"Of course." Nanoha closed her eyes and beamed at her. "She misses Fate-chan very much."

"I'm home!" Vivio's teenage voice called out quickly as she ran through the house to get to her room. Behind her, two twenty year old young adults followed. Erio and Caro had moved in together not too long ago, and Vivio had already gone over to their place countless times in an attempt to gain the 'freedom' that her older friends had.

"Vivio, Fate-chan is home." Nanoha called from the kitchen.

Caro's face lit up. "Fate-san?" She asked Nanoha happily. "I haven't seen her since her last mission!"

Fate's voice came up then, walking into the livingroom from her bedroom while adjusting the shirt that she had just put on. "Caro, Erio, you've grown." She accepted the joint hug and moved back just enough to look at them fully. "You're taller than me," Fate noticed after a few moments.

Nanoha put a hand on her hip. "Kind of weird isn't it?"

Erio blushed and scratched his cheek. "I just hit a growth spurt is all..."

At that moment Vivio came bounding back into the room. "Hey!"

Fate turned to her at once, opening her arms and hugging the teen. "There's my little girl!"

Vivio colored darkly. "I'm not a little girl!"

"Oh?" Fate pulled back and smiled at her brightly.

Nanoha leaned against the wall and crossed her arms playfully. "That's right, Vivio is all grown up because she's a teenager now."

"That's right!" The youngest one confirmed. "I'm going to hang out with college students!" No one pointed out that the two weren't enrolled in an official college, but rather took courses on their own desires.

"It is good to see you again, Fate-san." Caro gave Fate another hug.

Erio moved to join in, getting a hug for himself as well. "I'll come by tomorrow okay, Fate-san? I'll treat you to lunch?"

Fate smiled at him and nodded. "I'd love that." She looked over at the teen and opened her arms. "Vivio? Hug before you go off?"

"That's embarrassing, Fate-san." Vivio told her, cheeks still red. "I'm lot a little girl anymore."

Fate froze in place with a shocked look on her face, watching helplessly as the three walked together out of the living room. Shortly thereafter, the front door closed and Nanoha finally moved to stand by her friend. "We've..." Fate slowly began, looking over at blue eyes while hers started to water. "Really grown apart, haven't we?"

"Come here..." Nanoha gave her a tight hug and stroked her friend's back when a broken sob came into her shoulder. "Fate-chan..."

"I don't want to be Fate-san!" The words came out huskily as the tears took her over. "I want to be Fate-mama!"

"Shhhh.... It's okay. You'll always be Fate-mama." Nanoha held her closer. "She is just going through that phase right now..."

Slowly the two separated and the blond tried to wipe her eyes. "I'm sorry..."

"No, it's okay..."

"Vivio is your daughter, I shouldn't be upset..."

"Fate-chan!" Nanoha almost shrieked out the name, making her friend look at her sadly. "You raised her just as much as me! You're Fate-mama!"

"...Thanks...But it's okay..."

"No it's not!" Nanoha's voice rose again, eyes narrowing. "I couldn't do it by myself! If you weren't there, I don't know what I would have done!" She softened when Fate's scared red eyes met hers again. "Fate-chan... I asked you to help me raise her because I needed you. She needed you. And she still does."

The two remained silent for several moments before they heard the front door open. Both women looked at the door and saw Vivio walk into the house, embarrassed. "...Forgot something..." She told them softly as she walked past. Fate leaned against Nanoha and tried to dry her eyes before Vivio came back, now holding a stuffed rabbit that looked beaten and worn. It had several stitches on it from where it was torn and sewn back together and in general, looked like it had seen a lot of love in it's life. "Can't sleep well.... with it," Vivio told them, looking away.

Nanoha nudged Fate, making the blond cover a shaking smile. It was her that brought back that very same stuffed animal from one of her missions years ago. "Vivio...?"

The girl looked away and then glanced at Fate once more before walking over to her and taking the offered hug. "You're going to stay for a while this time...Right Fate-mama?"

Fate held her tightly and nodded. "Mmh! I'm going to apply for a position in town tomorrow."

Nanoha smiled at the two in front of her fondly. 'I'm glad to have my family back together...

This is turning out to be an amazing piece of work. I really like Hayate, she does not get enough fiction time let alone screen time! seeing her run for PM is fantastic. Also the whole serious grown up Vivio thing, i don't think i mentioned it last chapter but when you hinted at Vivio having a different answer about her outlook on military life and prestige your not hinting at a mother daughter death match down the line are you?

On the topic of Vivio, there were hints of Syn in there! i saw that! ask Syn to the formal Vivio! ask her!!!!!! lol be a bit out there, Syn going to come into it more or was it just a short name drop?

Looking forward to next fluffy chapter, its good to keep a serious and fluffy mix going on, it really keeps the contrast so readers don't get too comfortable with the tempo or atmosphere.

"Don't worry, I'm fine."

"I know." She looked at me for a moment before hugging her knees. "Think they'll be here soon?" I asked her, trying to lighten the mood.

"Should be here today sometime, if their mission was completed in the time they said it would be their last communication before we left."

"Then it'll end today." I sighed out and went to reach for my drink but sirens blared to life around me and screams ran thick in the base.

"They have an army!" One of them yelled out. "Countless! They're coming now!"

Vivio looked over at me and I nodded, running out into the fray. Several starving soldiers were trying to scramble together and fight, but it was clear when we saw them in their current state. Four days without food, there was no way they could fight off an army.

... If we didn't fix our mistake, everyone here would die.

I walked with Vivio toward the head sergeant's hut and saluted when he finally looked up from his desk. Currently there were a few people around the furniture, each looking as if they were going to kick something at any given second. "That bad?" I asked curiously while taking a place next to the table and looking down at a map of the battlefield around their base.

"Even an idiot can see we will be over ran if they get close enough to flank us."

Vivio pointed to an area away from the small base's front entrance. "It narrows down here thanks to the mountains. They will have no choice but to bottle-neck for a brief moment."

The men scoffed at her words. "That's why we chose this area for our base, private."

I could tell Vivio was mad at the words but she didn't let it show to them. "As I was saying, Syn and I can wait for it and use a mass area-of-effect spell once they start to get through. It will divide their forces, the first part can be fought off by you, the middle part will be destroyed, and the last flank will be delayed."

They looked at us with a cross between doubt and annoyance. "Can you two do something that powerful?"

Vivio smirked. "Takamachi Nanoha is my mama. If I couldn't blow up this small of an area, she would disown me."

I had to bite back a snicker at their astonished looks. "I will be with her as well." I got their attention on me and I put a hand on my hip. "I specialize in ranged attacks. With Vi's power added to mine, I can make quite a big boom."

They hesitated before speaking again. "Will this hurt your battle performance?"

"Well," I looked at Vivio's arm, which she couldn't even lift without wincing. "Actually, if-"

"No sir." Vivio cut me off and continued before I could say anything else. "Going by the information we had before we dispatched, our backup is supposed to be here shortly. They're probably already on a ship heading this way."

They nodded and turned to talk to each other while I glared at my friend and forced a mental connection. 'Vi, you can't fight like that!'

Her red eye looked over at me but she kept facing forwards. 'I'm stronger than that.'

'I won't let you.'

'You can' stop me.' Even though she wasn't actually speaking, I heard the amused tone lacing her thoughts. She was smiling just lightly and her hand reached over to hook one of our fingers together. 'I have to show my mama what I'm capable of, so she will stop worrying about me so much.'

I couldn't really say no to that, as I would have said the same thing. Despite us both hating being in our parent's shadows, we still wanted to make them proud of their children. 'Mou, you've been around me way too long, Vi.'

'Because Syn is my partner.' She gave my hand a quick squeeze and let go before they turned back to us and approved our plan.

I knew it would be a scary sight, hovering in the air while looking at an army of mages march towards us, but never really expected something on this caliber. Vivio was hurt to a point where she couldn't even hold her weapon in her main hand and after doing this attack, I would be drained of a lot of my magical power. If our backup didn't come really fast, we would be in trouble. “Hey, Vivio?” She hummed at me to show she was listening. Looking over at her, I felt the feeling in my chest come again. The same feeling I've had for a while now, enhanced by our experiences together over the last few days. “In case anything happens... I want to tell you something.”

The crack of energy pulsing in my veins made my body ache. The surge was draining me physically and the hand holding onto my bow was starting to burn. “Ready, Vi!?” My voice came out as a yell to be heard over the roaring magic swirling around us. I felt her nod against my back and I pulled back the newly formed string on my bow. “Hrunting Breaker!” I released the arrow and felt the energy rip from my body. The clouds above us scattered and the ground us shook with a fierce roar. Several blueish streaks of energy rained from the heavens onto the army heading towards us. The mountain area they were passing through crumbled and the barrage made the neat ranks flair out into chaos.

Vivio fell first, and I went after her almost immediately. Our powers spent, I barely had time to loop an arm under her waist and stop our fall before we both collapsed onto the ground. The people around us were cheering at the destruction and running all around to press the surprise ambush attack. I slowly pushed myself up and shook my head to clear it. The blast had sapped almost all of my magical energy and I could tell that Vivio was drained as well. She sat up and wobbled, holding onto her shoulder with one hand. After we both made it to our feet I gripped my bow and formed an arrow into it, shooting at the people who were trying to push through.

The enemy was already starting to put pressure on us and our weakened state didn't help matters any. Vivio downed one more person and fell weakly to her knees. Blood was pouring from her wound and her body was shivering. “Vivio!” The name didn't come from my lips, but at the same time it sounded familiar.

I looked as Vivio turned away to see the face of her worried mother flying at us as fast as she could. My friend's body went slack with relief and a warm smile came on her face. “I knew they would come...” She breathed out in satisfaction. “We'll be okay now.”

“VIVIO!”

I saw it before she did. A soldier we had thought to be down for the count was in mid leap towards Vivio's turned body. The sun's light reflected off the claws of his fist weapon and everything felt like it was going in slow motion for me. Vivio's eyes widened, her arm moving up her device to block. I started running for her, voice lost in warning. Falling Soul slipped from her bloodied fingers as her arm gave out under the weight of it. I could tell right then that Nanoha wouldn't make it in time. My body stumbled as I lunged forward, phasing through the air in a short-length teleportation.

The pain was instant, ripping through my back like a fire trying to consume me. It took my mind a few seconds to catch up with my body and when it did, my feet gave out under me. Vivio's body broke my fall and I saw the man lurch to the side seconds later, followed by Nanoha.

The fall sent glass through my veins, a burning, searing pain in my chest. The attack made me turn around from the force of it and I was laying on Vivio, facing her but having difficulty seeing her eyes.

I felt her breath in my ear. Soft but scared, gentle but so firm... She was trying to tell me something but I couldn't quite understand it.

Was she...crying? The warm liquid seeped onto my face through my hair and ran down to my neck. She was still talking... What was she saying...? It's getting hard to hear anything...

I felt her cheek on mine, her tears on my skin, hear shaking breathing on my neck. She was trying so hard to tell me something... I want to hear it Vivio...

The world grew darker and the arms embracing my body seemed to be pulling me into her soul. I no longer felt the pain, no longer heard the rustling wind of her words in my ear, but I could understand her now...what she meant.

Because Vivio is my most important person.

The cries of the girl holding her friend drowned in the war around her. Nothing held meaning anymore. Not the mission, not the outcome, nor the people trying to tell her it would be alright. Nothing mattered but the still girl in her arms, the ache in her heart, and the feeling of having something stolen from her. Mis-colored eyes closed tightly and she pulled the girl closer, throat tightening in pain from the scream still coming from it. No comfort came from her mother's words, no safety was found in the embrace from behind. The only thing she knew was unmoving form in her arms, and the fact she would never be able to be with her ever again.

The same feeling I've had for a while now, enhanced by our experiences together over the last few days. “In case anything happens... I want to tell you something.”

“Don't,” Her word made me close my mouth and, for a moment, I felt hurt. “Tell me when we get back, okay?” Her eyes met mine and she smiled at me, cheeks coloring ever so slightly. “I have something I want to tell you too.”

“Right.” I nodded firmly at her and turned back to the army, now going through the area we wanted them too. “When we get back...” I held out my hand and formed my bow-type device. My eyes narrowed and I started focusing my magic to gather. I felt Vivio get behind me and wrap an arm around my waist. Her heartbeat thundered through her chest and into my back, locking onto mine and beating in unison. Just as her mother could suck magical energy right out of the air, Vivio could control the flow of energy around her and direct it as she pleased. I felt her powers flow into my body and gather in my device, forming a multi-colored circle under us.

The crack of energy pulsing in my veins made my body ache. The surge was draining me physically and the hand holding onto my bow was starting to burn. “Ready, Vi!?” My voice came out as a yell to be heard over the roaring magic swirling around us. I felt her nod against my back and I pulled back the newly formed string on my bow. “Hrunting Breaker!” I released the arrow and felt the energy rip from my body. The clouds above us scattered and the ground us shook with a fierce roar. Several blueish streaks of energy rained from the heavens onto the army heading towards us. The mountain area they were passing through crumbled and the barrage made the neat ranks flair out into chaos.

Vivio fell first, and I went after her almost immediately. Our powers spent, I barely had time to loop an arm under her waist and stop our fall before we both collapsed onto the ground. The people around us were cheering at the destruction and running all around to press the surprise ambush attack. I slowly pushed myself up and shook my head to clear it. The blast had sapped almost all of my magical energy and I could tell that Vivio was drained as well. She sat up and wobbled, holding onto her shoulder with one hand. After we both made it to our feet I gripped my bow and formed an arrow into it, shooting at the people who were trying to push through.

My partner took a breath and ran forward, holding Falling Soul with her off-hand and slashing it as best she could while injured. The enemy was already starting to put pressure on us and our weakened state didn't help matters any. Vivio downed one more person and fell weakly to her knees. Blood was pouring from her wound and her body was shivering. “Vivio!” The name didn't come from my lips, but at the same time it sounded familiar.

I looked as Vivio turned away to see the face of her worried mother flying at us as fast as she could. My friend's body went slack with relief and a warm smile came on her face. “I knew they would come...” She breathed out in satisfaction. “We'll be okay now.”

“VIVIO!”

I saw it before she did. A soldier we had thought to be down for the count was in mid leap towards Vivio's turned body. The sun's light reflected off the claws of his fist weapon and everything felt like it was going in slow motion for me. Vivio's eyes widened, her arm moving up her device to block. I started running for her, voice lost in warning. Falling Soul slipped from her bloodied fingers as her arm gave out under the weight of it. I could tell right then that Nanoha wouldn't make it in time. My body stumbled as I lunged forward, phasing through the air in a short-length teleportation.

The pain was instant, ripping through my back like a fire trying to consume me. It took my mind a few seconds to catch up with my body and when it did, my feet gave out under me. Vivio's body broke my fall and I saw the man lurch to the side seconds later, followed by Nanoha.

The fall sent glass through my veins, a burning, searing pain in my chest. The attack made me turn around from the force of it and I was laying on Vivio, facing her but having difficulty seeing her eyes.

I felt her breath in my ear. Soft but scared, gentle but so firm... She was trying to tell me something but I couldn't quite understand it.

Your mama is an Ace too?
Mmn! We should be friends!

Vivio was trying harder now. Her arms were pulling on me, breathing just a little harder.

We're going to show them, Vi!
We'll make everyone see us for our own purposes instead of our mother's!

Was she...crying? The warm liquid seeped onto my face through my hair and ran down to my neck. She was still talking... What was she saying...? It's getting hard to hear anything...

We're going to be a team!
I just heard! We're officially partners from here on out!

I felt her cheek on mine, her tears on my skin, hear shaking breathing on my neck. She was trying so hard to tell me something... I want to hear it Vivio...

Don't worry, I'll take good care of Syn.
And I'll take good care of you, Vi.

The world grew darker and the arms embracing my body seemed to be pulling me into her soul. I no longer felt the pain, no longer heard the rustling wind of her words in my ear, but I could understand her now...what she meant.

Because Vivio is my most important person.

The cries of the girl holding her friend drowned in the war around her. Nothing held meaning anymore. Not the mission, not the outcome, nor the people trying to tell her it would be alright. Nothing mattered but the still girl in her arms, the ache in her heart, and the feeling of having something stolen from her. Mis-colored eyes closed tightly and she pulled the girl closer, throat tightening in pain from the scream still coming from it. No comfort came from her mother's words, no safety was found in the embrace from behind. The only thing she knew was unmoving form in her arms, and the fact she would never be able to be with her ever again.

No, no no!! I wasn't meaning that! What I was trying to say is... well maybe it'll be better if I give a practical example: It's more like... eating your favourite ice cream and for some mysterious reason, not enjoying it as much as usual. But it's still the same good old ice cream. Did that make any sense? The story is still good and interesting. I can't point out something really bad at it! Just that something didn't tick right in this chapter (and I have no idea whatsoever what it is!).
