Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that when I seen that scene, I also agree with the Tony Stark comparison someone mentioned as well. anyway, this was a great wrap-up for the series. Ed certainly has an interesting way of purposing. I also agree with many that Al's voice isn't quite right anymore.

Just watched the last two episodes. Held them off a bit since I was an emotional mess when the manga ended.
It's over v_v I'm not totally satisfied with how they treated the last chapter, but in the end they did a great job. Specially the change with Marcoh irked me, he desperately needed some redemption. Also didn't like that it seemed like Havoc was instantly cured and didn't need any rehab. And why the non-family additions to the family photo? D: But still: Great end. And I chuckled at the added braids to the second Edwin baby, as if they wanted to clarify that it weren't two sons, but a boy and a baby girl Soo now to wait for the last OST and OVA. |

Open end? XD
Definite closure with the feeling of going forward, is what I'd call it. The things that drove the series are all pretty much resolved. That the characters don't just drop the issues but work towards making the world a better place and make the sacrifices worth it, was all to my liking. Better than having them simply retire now that the death thread is gone. I like the thought of them still moving things and think it's a closure in it's own right. Like Winry put it: "A man who only sits around is boring." Might just be me, too, but that's not what I define as an open end at all. It left me all satisfied without having questions about their whereabouts or who won. |

FMA's plot is complete. The story it set out to tell is over. All the important questions were either answered explicitly, or left so painfully obvious as to be academic. (As for all the unimportant questions, they are...unimportant) In that sense, the ending is not open, but people still continue to live their lives, so it goes on.
You want a closed ending? "One of the moons falls out of the sky of our hypothetical world and kills all life on the planet, degrading its orbit and sending it careening into the sun. During this, a minor subatomic fluctuation sets off a chain reaction in the very fabric of space-time that destroys that, and all other current and potential universes, retroactively to the beginning of time. "Also the author dies." That is a closed ending. Every other ending is, to some degree or another, open. So don't dog on open endings.

As far as anime goes I think this is one of the most complete endings maybe next to Maison Ikkoku.
Of course it is not closed to the point that you cannot imagine more things in the lives of these characters but the main plot was definitely closed quite nicely. So I would call it a closed plot with possibilities. Actually I like how Zebra described it "closure with the feeling of going forward".

Episode Final. The End of the Journey
Managed to successfully conclude this epic voyage of a series about yesterday.
This marks the very first time throughout my experiences with anime, that said anime waits for the manga to finish its storyline and follows the manga all the way to the end. Spoiler for Mustang's conclusion:
Spoiler for Scar's conclusion:
Spoiler for Ling's conclusion:
Spoiler for Return to Resembool:
I'm very glad that several of the fallen characters were mentioned back and given a special moment of homage like was for Hughes, Nina, and Greed, for example. Overall, I felt reassured that Ed and Al learned from his late father's mistake and came back from their journeys. Spoiler:

About the ending I don't have anything to say. I'm just in love with this anime/manga and maybe even more because of the previous *disaster* serie which is terribly put back in its place with the awesomness of the original content. Oh, and is it me, or was the whole Winry/Elric brothers reunion incredibly longer than in the manga (With Winry slowly waking up, passing in front of their childhood pics...) ? Am I the only one who smell a "sorry" from the team for what they have done to her in the previous serie and movie ? ;P The elric brothers had a family since the very start, and the team did an amazing job showing that (thanks to Arakawa of course !) this time ! One of the best anime I ever saw, if not the best. Perfect, from the beginning to the end, I loved every character, every moment of it, I've never been bothered during the long walk, nothing ever striked me as easy or OOC, or too much or blabla. Perfect. My only regret ? I wish Envy could have survived instead of Selim XD But well, still, we wouldn't have get his awesome death scene so well. Awesome FMA, that's about it.

Notice the children behind Falman? How disappointing to me! Come to think of it he is up North now maybe he got together with Olivier. Or if not her that automail engineer.

A very touching final episode, I'm very surprised that, out of all the things that happened here, people hold Roy's mustache in the first place of interest
Personally I wouldn't mind a spin-off of Al's journeys, should be interesting! |
