Indeed. It seems clear to me that Animax Asia chose to dub K-ON! through the brutal expedient of hiring the first seven or eight English-speaking people off the streets of Hong Kong; regardless of suitability for the roles. There is almost nothing to distinguish any of the characters from each other (or make them bear more than a faint resemblance to the original Japanese voices,) except Sawako, who is made to sound like she's fifty years old.

Anyone Bandai selects to do the ADR work for a Region 1 dub (assuming, of course, that they are going to do a dub,) would be a vast improvement by the sole virtue of not being Animax Asia. But, since it's Bandai, and they've got a title that might just appeal to the demographic who normally goes for sparkly waah-vampires, instead of just the hardcore otaku set; it's probably going to go to Bang Zoom Entertainment, which means the cast will probably be composed of the usual suspects.

Which would be absolutely fine. I like the usual suspects. They do a good job.

Seems like they've only used four to five dubbers/voice actress for this English dubbed version of K-ON! on Animax Asia sourced and dubbed in Hong Kong..If only the guys at Animax Asia management used the same dubbers of Nodame Cantabile english dubs which is getting good reviews lately then it would be much better...

I'm still hoping that Bang Zoom will do proper justice on this one!

The dubbing isn't too bad...

I don't mind Ritsu's voice, but I do mind her acting :S She's a lot less powerful and... Enthusiastic than I expected.
Mio's voice is a light higher than I expected (I expected something mellow-er)
Yui, Mugi, and Nodoka I don't have a problem with.

I wonder how they're gonna deal with the songs..
Edit: Animax (was it?) kept it Japanese... Those smart dogs

Throwing a random thought out there

Just a random thought.

If for some reason Tsumugi got voiced by Karen Strassman, then boy will we have a lot of random guessing...

Other than that, I have no preference.

Based on the roles Strassman has voiced in the past plus the type of voice she has used for each role and add in how Tsumugi originally sounds, I determined that she would best fit the role of Tsumugi in my possible predictions of the main cast.

Actually they've screwed Yui,Ritsu and of course Azusa's voice in that English dubbed version of K-ON! on Animax Asia which was really bad in terms of casting and dub quality...

That's why I think Animax Asia management should use that same dubbing outfit/team that dubbed Nodame Cantabile S1 and Red Garden english dubs when they'll air K-ON!! this year on Animax cause that team got much better and talented pool of female dubbers!

I'm really hoping that the English dubbed version of K-ON! by Bandai and Bang Zoom! would be a great dubs! Darn I really can't wait to hear their performances!

Chiaki was voiced by Yuri Lowenthall in that dub. You could tell it was him even without the credit roll. It was certainly a surprising choice. I forget who voiced Nodame though.

I actually thought up of Wendee Lee as Tsumugi and Strassman as Nodoka, but I can see where you are going at.

But sadly, I can't think of any other character that would best suit for Michelle Ruff for the upcoming Bandai K-ON! dub mainly because Stephanie Sheh is voicing Yui but I guessed Michelle Ruff as Yui prior to the announcement at Otakon.

That is the case, along with Stephanie Sheh for Yui; however, there have been arguments in light of this.

Still would like to hear some more familiar voices though. We just gotta wait.

I can't really imagine Yui with the voice of Hinata..
I think that Bandai and Bang Zoom are going to do better than Animax. Hell, I think I could do Ritsu better!

Obviously the guys and gals at Bang Zoom are gonna do good. They're like professionals, unlike the ones at Animax.

Wow, the animax dubbed version. I didn't think I could hate dubbing so much, it sounds like it's all one woman speaking, Ui sounds about 40 years old, Rehtsu doesn't sound nearly tomboyish enough and Mugi isn't cute enough!

Two new Cast Announcements were just made for Bandai and Bang Zoom's K-On dub:

Cassandra Lee as Ritsu
Shelby Lindley as Tsumugi

I've never heard of Cassandra Lee at all, and I've only heard Shelby as Shamal in Nanoha A's. (and it's her only notable role)

Seems a lot of newer VAs will be part ofthe K-On cast...
