Hah, descending down via the escalator like that made his entrance pretty dramatic. It seemed to be a charged event.

Browsing through Kotaku's coverage reveals that Tokyo was pretty busy with lines of people waiting, unlike Osaka which was pretty uneventful.

As for me, I can't wait until I get my grubby hands on it.

Its a great game, I bought this morning and I already put about 4 hours into it. So far it's been everything I read it would be.

As an admitted MGS fanboy, this year has seen probably two of the greatest video games ever released in GTA IV and the final Metal Gear Solid game. (I don't want to argue about whether either game gets undeserved credit or which one is better. They're both great.) I've out a good 8 hours into it already, and I feel like I'm pretty far along. I really didn't believe that the game could live up to the hype, but it has actually surpassed it in my opinion... And by the way...

Spoiler for boss fight help?:

This is not the first time that it had happened though.GTA III and MGS 2 were both released during the same time period in 2001, likewise for GTA SA and MGS 3 in 2004. So it's becoming sort of like an unintended tradition.

Yeah, he seemed a bit slower. But you can adjust some speed settings from the options menu. Try playing around with those. I adjusted normal view speed to 6. I haven't seen any difference with such a small increase, but I've gotten used to it by now.

You can still do the peek-a-boo shot as well, but the move is limited to handguns. First, you have to stick to the wall (move against the wall and press triangle), and then while taking a peek, press L1 to aim. You can then press triangle again to go into 1st person mode from there.

Anyway, I'm still in Chapter 2...

I don't have the game yet, but since I want to spoil myself anyway I've been watching cut-scene compilations on youtube. I think I'm near the end of Act 4, and holy crap so many

Yeah you have a good point there. Which reminds me, Halo 2 was also released in 2004, and the original release dates for Halo 3, GTA IV, and MGS4 were all in late 2007 (with Halo being the only one actually released in 2007). So it seems that the big game companies like to do this fairly often.

Anyway I've been blazing through this game, once you begin playing it's seriously a drag to stop. I'm at the beginning of Act 5 and everything so far has been amazing.
