Well that started, with some very pretty animation going on but man, someone has a foot fetish for sure. I've never seen someone clipping their toenails and then sniffing the clippers depicted quite so... so.... beautifully before!

The original manga focussed the spotlight on a totally different part of adolescent female anatomy... the animators have tamed things down a bit, thankfully. The "Non Non Biyori" countryside scenery porn was well-rendered by Clover, expect a lot more of it.

Very good start. It's very much a "Cute Girl Doing Cute Things" storyline as Akebi-chan tries to make friends. Spoiler: she makes friends. Kao-chan is Best Supporting Imouto.

She loves the outfit. That's kind of the thing. Her favorite singer wore a sailor suit that she thought was absolutely adorable. Her mother looked super cool (in her mind) in her junior high pictures wearing that sailor suit. She always wanted to wear the same outfit as her mother. Not to mention that her mother worked so hard on it, and she doesn't want to put it aside.

Also, "Blazer" here doesn't refer to just a jacket. It's an entire uniform designed to a certain style which includes a jacket. The sailor suit is designed different and doesn't go well with it. That big collar for one wouldn't work, look good or feel comfortable when combined with a blazer.

As a huge fan of the superb artwork of the original manga, this was not quite up to the quality of the original but still pretty good. On the other hand, I gotta give the anime staff kudos for capturing the feel and mood of the source. It's as if they breathed life into the manga. I am especially pleased with the family scenes at the beginning of the episode. They are such a sweet, loving family

Although what you say may be true, this is a fairly close rendition of the first 3 chapters of the manga, the 3rd chapter of which included this nail-sniffing scene.

The mom looked like she had a good head on her shoulders but she's a bit of an airhead, isn't she? Who doesn't bother to check what the uniform is and instead relies on old pictures of herself to make one? The people who interviewed the MC are dicks too, she specifically mentioned loving their sailor uniform and not one of them told her it's not a thing anymore.

The premise is a bit dumb, but I liked the characters and their interactions. Granted, it was mainly her family, but who doesn't like a HanaKanaMama and a KunoLoli? I was actually afraid she was going to move since they live in the middle of nowhere but the school is shockingly within walking distance. A fair distance, apparently.

Hiro, the original mangaka of Akebi-chan no Serafuku started off doing hentai manga. His particular fetish is not girls feet, although they do feature here and there in his artwork for this series. The anime has tamed down the manga art somewhat.

Roubai Academy is kinda special, an oujo-sama school but it's still open to oddballs and eccentrics (and Akebi's mom is still remembered fondly by some of the staff there). The old lady at the interview is the principal of Roubai's junior high school (there's also a senior high school). She is herself a graduate of Roubai Academy and, as she said, she wore a sailor uniform herself.

We'll meet the other person at the interview, the younger meganekko lady later, no spoilers.

I'm not really sure what to think about it. I can't really tell where it is trying to go.

From the way the story goes, it seems to be a fairly average girls school life thing, except with a lot of fetishes for the viewer and err... the characters...?
This reminds me of that anime where all of the characters had a fetish, including scat, so uh... I'm wary about this.

But the animation is so pretty, that it almost doesn't fit this fetish anime pretending to be a girl's school slice-of-life

And is there any real reason for this uniform? Outside of the school uniform-fetish?
Because we got
1. Interviewers not correcting the girl even though any normal person would mention this important fact
2. That you are allowed to make your own uniforms
Two very convenient events to occur just so that the protagonist can wear a school uniform... and be the only one there to wear it, thus making her... not normal...?

So yeah, kinda confused on what I should think this anime is. A fetish anime with extremely pretty animation. Certainly a weird match.

Also, one thing that actually really just sucks and not confuse me is the... head...? Of the characters. Their eyes are really big and face small, so anyone who isn't a loli looks weird.
And when we get to adults with these loli heads, whenever their eyes are half-closed, they start looking like the Hakumen no Mono

But perhaps this was done on purpose so the audience doesn't look at their faces and stare at the bottom of the body, like the feet?
Because their bodies are definitely... good.
Anyways, that's the only real problem I have. As more characters are introduced, I think it will be easier to see where they are trying to go. And maybe there is a loli-high-school girl in the cast so there is at least one character's face that I can stare at.

I think we are all too used to the common drawing style that anything look different than the standard might look weird.

Then again, we have no problem with how anime like XXXhoric and Ousama Ranking draw it characters.

It's not a fetish anime. There just happen to be a few scenes here and there that make it look that way. It's really just a story about a cute, cheerful girl trying to make friends.

Yeah, those two have uncommon drawing styles too, but they don't seem abnormal because... well, at least Ousama Ranking is because of its overall cartoony feel. And all characters look "weird", though for this one, lolis are fine because lolis are drawn with big eyes and round faces, but non-lolis are also drawn in the same fashion.

As for XXXHolic, I've actually seen quite a number of people find a problem with how... "slim" they are.

I just watched Episode 1

Pros:

MC is endearing and pretty fun to watch
The scenery artwork/animation is lovely
Very nice bgm at times
Sweet family scenes
Good first in-class scene between MC and blond girl.


Cons:

The faces are a little weird-looking. But I guess the production staff wanted to try something a little different with the art-style in order to stand out from the crowd. At least the characters look decently pretty overall, imo.
Highly unrealistic setup... but I can let that slide as long as the show doesn't strain my suspension of disbelief much beyond that.


Overall, a nice and charming opening episode.
