I guess they really wanted to do this cliffhanger, but the episode was pretty rushed due to it.
Even within the episode, the blonde girl was all, "I think you should have won", which didn't really click with me. I saw and heard nothing to warrant such praise. Maybe the story is trying to depict her as talented?

Anyways, the episode itself was really generic, and just like most idol anime, come with a whole bunch of characters you will likely not remember by the time the anime ends.
Also, the top idol dying and sickly protagonist thing is really familiar...

Too many characters to start off with, and... well... Idoly Pride but with Idolic Possession? Did the dead idol girl possess the one who narrowly lost and whose name I've forgotten already?

episode 1:

the singing is so short and the drama is plenty.. it feels toxic.
I generally avoid drama shows, and was caught by surprise by this (did not know it was drama)..

well, those things aside going to stick around for a few more... interested to see what happens to Suzune.

They could have easily merged episode 1 and 2 together, if they are just gonna get the blonde girl to give up and give her seat to the protagonist.

Also, I don't think that such an event would just... occur and nothing happens. From a viewer's point of view, as with the previous episode, the protagonist's song isn't even that good in the first place, making the whole set of events even less believable.

If it is gonna be like that, just have the protagonist pass in the first place. Even if the blonde girl is gonna join in later, it still doesn't require what happened in the first two episodes to happen.


Also, just to note, but people that like watching girls singing and dancing probably do not enjoy that annnnoooooying doll thing and its aannnnnnnoooying male voice.

Gotta agree with serenade_beta. The whole thing with the blond chick was stupid and pointless. The fact the MC doesn't sound all that impressive doesn't help.

These are typical "dynamic range" limitations that plague most productions that try to present "Good" and "Better". The protagonist is supposed to be enough of a "Better" to warrant being given a chance despite her own slip up. But she's supposed to improve, so this is already the "2nd best" or even "3rd best" effort her VA could manage. From there she must still be a cut above her competitor, and without her competitor actually sounding bad.

Basically, it's an impossible task, both because of the limited range of the available talent and the audience's limited ability to discriminate. So something almost always goes wrong - either the competitors actually sound bad to ensure the audience can tell the difference, or people start wondering if the protagonist is really better.

At least the girls are competently drawn (I don't watch that many of these, so I have no time to get sick of the repeititons). I can buy they might actually be idols.

Which is why they shouldn't try this kind of crap to begin with. Just make the MC win from the start and move on.

To start with it's already way too implausible that someone who took part on an audition and won would drop out just because they feel someone else did better. That's nonsense. No one would throw away their chances like that, specially in the entertainment industry where you're lucky to get a chance at all.

Enjoyed the first episode. Not so much the second. Enjoyed the singing, especially of them all together...the "dead" Hayami Saori and OP/ED singer Cutie were credited as singing with them, no doubt to give the group a solid base (and lead?).

I really don't expect, or want, much originality in shows like this. The heart of popular entertainment is doing satisfying versions of memes that satisfy the audience. Ep1 satisfied me. Ep 2 not so much. I look forward to seeing whether they can make the group dynamics work.

EDIT: I've just been reading about the lead, Yano Hinaki 矢野妃菜喜. She's 24 and was briefly a member of the well-known idol group Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku over ten years ago. She was picked up by Sony Music Artists in 2014 and they have been her agents ever since. She was part of a duo (Gekidan Utataneko) that had a song in 2014 (YouTube) and did the OP/ED for the anime 12-sai (YouTube). Both quite decent, in my opinion. She has done various things as a singer, an actress and a seiyuu, and released a single in August ("Hologram Angel") that seems to have gone nowhere. She has never seemed to break through, but SMA is sticking with her. No, she didn't give a performance that justified Seira's reaction, but it was good. And the whole group singing together was very good.

episode 2:

better than the first episode. Score increased from 3/10 to 5/10. Keep it up.

and on my preferences it's still better than Idoly Pride, because it does not have a self insert character like Makino in IP. It does have an irritating Panda who hurts my ears whenever this forsaken animal talks (wish they just gave this guy a normal voice or Monobear voice. lol). but panda > Makino. I can tolerate the panda, but if they put a self insert guy into this, then it would be an auto drop like Idoly Pride.

the song and dance at the end is amazing. Looking forward for more!

Now that Rena was revealed to be the (dead) top idol's little sister, it means this show is basically a rip-off of Idol Pride. Even the character designs are similar.

I couldn't help but snicker when they revealed she was the younger sister of the dead idol.
The scary part is that there are at least two more places this anime could end up having extreme similarities at, but hopefully, it doesn't happen.

this is how it's for me..

first episode = trash
second episode = watchable
third episode = enjoyed it

the performance by Rena and Suzune is amazing. Hopefully, this is just a taste of good things to come.

excellent episode. Much more screen time showing the idols, and less screen time on the panda and other side characters. This feels almost like Love Live now. Was so entertained, actually watched the episode three times today, because my ears did not bleed from the panda voice. lol

5/5 episode and score increased to 7/10 from 6/10. Keep it up.

that's an entertaining performance. Reminded me a bit of Bang Dream.

had a bit of laugh when Mistress said no one in her family had ever hit her. lol

and keep the panda screen time every ep to just a few seconds.. and I'll be able to stick to this to the end.

nice to see Rena suddenly start caring about Suzune. Liking this part of the story, scar from the operation causing problems in shoots is something that would eventually happen, so it does not feel forced. Looking forward to how they resolve this.

That said, I don't think they will spend more time on that plot point, on the original owner of the heart? So at least we won't get the final "This is Idoly Pride" check?
