Rumor from Japan is that Shinji Higuchi (storyboard artist on EVA, NADIA, Y2199), who also directed Episode 3 of YAMATO: 2199 under a psuedonym, will be helming next year's Y2199 feature film. Again, this is a rumor, and has not yet been verified in any way, shape, or form.
The publications were not meant to be taken as technical spec manuals; perhaps this will be a book that will be forthcoming.

Is there a significance or connection to the arrival date of the Yamato to Earth, being December 8? Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th, Hawaii time, but it was also December 8th, Japan time.

December 8th also happens to be the Captain's birthday.

Hello! I'm a total new guy to Yamato 2199. I love the original series and have some questions about the new 2199 series. I know there is a lot of information and I apologize for asking questions that are probably already answered elsewhere, but this thread is up to 146 pages already. Yamato 2299 will be out before I get all caught up.
So, where is the best place to buy the shows? By best, I mean cheapest. I looked on eBay and may have had a mild stroke. Also, the models for the series seem to be 1/1000 scale. An old series 1/1000 scale sells for around $10 it would seem, but the new 2199 1/1000 scale stuff is $40+. Is it just the new that is causing the extra expense, or is Bandai coating the new stuff in so much awesome that the price is higher? Is there a retailer (online) in the US that stocks the kits? I don't mind ordering from Japan, but it takes a larger order to make shipping worthwhile in most cases. Any help on this would be much appreciated! |

At the moment, there is no cheap way to buy anything Yamato 2199. Amazon.co.jp seems to have at least somewhat lesser prices as they have discounts (Off by 20% or more) and buying all at once would reduce the shipping cost significantly. I've seen the price of a single Blu-ray as low as $58 US Dollars before shipping.
Ebay tends to be rather high as it takes retail prices and shipping cost from Japan into account for the seller. The older, cheaper model kits tended to be box size and were rarely in scale with each other. Most were about six inches long if I recall. The Yamato 2199 models are (mostly) 1/1000 scale and a lot of them are longer than six inches long. Yamato in 1/1000 scale is 13 inches long and the larger Gamilas carriers and battleships are in the 13 to 16 inch range with the super battleships projected at being 25 and 29 inches respectively. The smaller models tend to come with more than one ship, and so far all the model kits have come with extra stuff (fighter planes, tanks, reflex satelites, other kinds of ships). There is also a line of 1/72 scale fighters and a new 1/500 scale Yamato that will be 26 inches long.

With Blu-rays, better wait for a cheap American release box set.
For models, go to HLJ, they have more mailing box size choices, hence you can combine shipping more easily and keep it under 2kg for the SAL economy. Also, their EMS rates are amongst the cheapest by default. |

Thanks guys! That definitely helps.
I used to have a lot of the tiny ship models. You can still get them on HLJ for under two bucks each. I always wanted to collect a couple fleets as there used to be a Star Blazers branded miniatures game... maybe back in he 1990's? I thought it would be neat to adapt the game to use the small models. Alas, the book and the accumulated models disappeared along with some other collectibles a couple of moves ago. Someone probably moved into an apartment in 2008 and found a box of treasure in a closet. I've been eyeing the 1/72 scale fighters as well. They look fantastic! It would be nice to see them in action, but I think I might have to wait on the movies till the price comes down or, as mentioned above, there is an official US box set. I'd rather spend the money on models at this point. Thanks again for the information. I'll lurking this thread for a while... waiting to leap from the shadows with more silly questions! |

The Star Blazers Fleet Battle System miniatures game books and miniatures can still be purchased from Musashi Enterprises. http://www.starblazersonline.com/products.html
We also play from time to time. More recently adapting the old rules and ships for Yamato 2199.

In 2011, I decided that I wasn't going to wait for a US release that could take years, if any at all, and started purchasing the Blu-rays (which contain English Subtitles), from the very beginning — and I choose to have friends in Japan snag the Theater Exclusive versions for me. And getting these has proved to be worth every damned penny to me (but, I'm crazy like that). So, it might be prudent to buy them over time (there are no current plans for even a Japanese box set). But, that's up to the individual. Quote:

Hey I just realised some of those miniatures are actually from Plex's Mechanical Collection series. I hope they will release something for Yamato 2199 so I can get some 1/500 Cosmo Falcons for the 1/500 Yamato in December. I have a couple of unmanned battleships coming from Yahoo Japan Auction. I already have many Cosmo tigers.
The rest of the miniatures appear to be original molds. Somehow since Plex's mechanical collection are only approximately to scale, e.g. the battleship, cruisers and destroyers are to scale but not everything else such as the transport ship, it is not too different from the mecha colle ones. |

Thanks again for the help guys. I do appreciate it. I've got a cart load at the HLJ site, I just need to wait a couple days for some ebay/paypal funds to clear then pull the trigger.
I'm in experienced model builder and I've been assembling Japanese model kids since the early 1980's. I never painted them as a kid though. Is there an online resource that will help with any required translations of paint colors recommended in the 2199 model kits instructions? Or are they modeled in pretty accurate colors? My last Real Grade Gundam kit I just decal'd and sprayed with Testors Dulcote flat finish to take off the plastic shine and it looks really good. |

I paid $635.00 for all 7 BDs (mix of new and used for best prices). STAY AWAY from the $30.00 (about) DVD/CDs on Amazon. Those are bootlegs.

Amazon Japan would probably be even cheaper. With the yen down a bit still, you can probably pick each one up at $60 US dollars each plus shipping. Shipping them all together would lower the price since the present cost individually is $20 shipping...so grouped up it might be a lot less than a combined $140 in shipping costs.
And even indivudually now, you can probably get them all for less than $550 as Chapter 1 is usually cheaper than the other six chapters. (I was buying staring last year when the yen was high and it was about $700 for them all over the last year and a half). Right now you can get all seven individually on Amazon Japan for a total of 40311 yen...or $410.41 US Dollars. Plus shipping (individually it is 2000 yen each...together I don't know)...if you bought all seven individually today, it would cost you $552.94. Less if you buy them all together to reduce shipping cost or if you find used copies.
