If you ever watched the PV trailer before the series began, and take in to account the recent events, you'll get a sense as to where their relationship will go from here on out. Also, most of the comedy in this show came from Ferris' interaction with Ryner. With them being separated, I anticipate even darker scenarios.

Yep, watched it before but forgot about it. I rewatched it and I certainly get what you mean. Nevertheless, it feels like an unexpected twist to me, very interesting.

Anyone else think Lucile might have torch curse or will heim (two other types of magical eyes mentioned in ep17)? Also during the flash back in ep16, when Lucile was killing his father, he kept repeating "destruction, rebirth...". It resembles what someone would do with magical eyes. And then when Lucile's father was about to die, he said "Don't tell me you're... that...".

Yes, it definitely has. Before the anime, it was at 3.5 million. And I bought all the novels after watching the first 3 episodes, so I was part of those numbers. For the BD, it's only like 12 days since its release, so it might be a bit early to judge.

And my prediction is that after the anime ends, the novel sales will shoot up for sure, since the last episode will leave things hanging, and the anime watchers in Japan will all go buy the sequel to find out what's going to happen next. Incidentally, the time difference of vol 11 of the prequel and vol 1 of the sequel is merely a few hours. As they read the sequel, they will suddenly find that there's too much confusing stuff going on, and they will go back to buying the prequel despite having watched the anime, to have a more holistic understanding especially on stuff the anime has cut out. And after all that, they will realize that some characters that were not newly introduced in the sequel weren't from the prequel, which will cause them to buy the side stories to link up everything. And because of all these novel sales, another studio, if not the same one, might decide to bet on the sequel and make it a 3-cour show!!

Spoiler for Ep 18:

At the begining Ryner having a nightmare about his parents and Feriis and Sion. The other personality laughing at him.

A lot of mistaken identity this episode only to be straightened out. Milk and Luke are also noted as missing. Ryner is at Estabul. When Ferris gets a whiff of the idiot's whereabout she heads there. Sion not far after receiving new Claugh got pwnd. Ferris finds Ryner in a restaurant and proceeds to reel him in. With exposition he is that will go after any girl Note in the cartoon he is the rapist while the girl is Ferris. One can argue Ferris wants him to ravish her but he is uninterested.

Unfortunately the black guy came in to fetch Ryner for himself. After learning he is an Alpha Stigma in a fight. Ferris and Ryner rum outside to find Sion and the entire Roland army. Sion being genre savvy (does he know all the cursed eyes?) uses arrows on the black guy. He still kill some of the soldiers. Guy can regenerate.

Then it proceeds upon a battle of wills for Ryner to join either. The black guy says monsters should join monsters. Ryner tells he understand why Luke did what he did and also says Sion had to do what ha to be done as a good king.

Ryner joins the black guy. Though saddened by the loss Sion wouldn't show it to his troops and proclaims a victory. Ferris assures him he a good king as Ryner said.

At the end Ferris leaves with a lot of dango on quest to retrieve Ryner on her own.

I'm gonna say this here and now despite not being in Milan's calculations Sion is falling into darkness due to despair. Because Sion is loosing his morality pets. As we've seen with the secretary dude and his mother that died every time Sion looses somebody he edges closer to the darkside. Ryner and Ferris qualify as his morality pets.

not exactly according to novel, just according to my memory but something like that:

Innkeepers: gasp, what is going on?
Ryner: everything's fine.
Ferris on top of Ryner with sword struck into the floor: heh, outsiders should just get out and leave us alone.
Innkeepers look at each other, then smiled: Outsiders?? Ah, I see I see, so this is what it's all about.
Ryner: erm, I think you are misunderstanding something.
Innkeepers giggle and left, closing the door behind them.

I guess it is because this was a key episode and kind of like the start of a new story, so they decided to up the animation quality... But I don't think it really worked well.
There was indeed a whole lot more movement, but the quality of the actual drawings felt really off...

It's as if two different studios worked on the episode. One with good high quality in non-action scenes and one with crappy sketchy style in action scenes.

So happy we are finally learning more about the other ocular magic in the series. Being able to consumes humans and magic and boost your own thats a little more frightening than Alpha Stigma. Ryner might have a problem fighting this guy if he can absorb magic like that but there is a limit to everything his absorption powers can not be infinite.

I cant believe that bastard took Clugh's arm i was pretty pissed about that and i think the princess is going to be plenty upset when she seems them since they have obviously grown very very close so close infact that the other troops commented on it.

So in the beginning Ryner has a dream, i wonder if he did have parents like that, if the did have parents like that it would appear that he may have killed them while going out of control, Ferris was sad the Ryner left, she didn't even want her dango, could she have feelings for Ryner, so Luke and Milk are still missing, Sion looked like a proper king while taking charge and attacking Tiir, i wonder how he knew of Tiir's ability, i was upset that Ryner left with Tiir, but i don't blame him because of what he's been through, Tiir did sympathize with him because he know how it feels, Ferris seemed upset and sad the Ryner left again, Sion was also upset but did not show his troops because he has to be a proper king, but i believe that Ryner leaving has negatively affected Sion's plans and also Sion can't handle it, happy that Ferris is going to look for Ryner

Yeah totally. This weeks episode was easily the turning point in the story, and i have no idea where it'll go from here. Can't wait.

& i personally loved the animation in this episode. Glad they went with a style that suited such an episode.
