I mentioned before somewhere else that I feel Izumi Curtis is the most powerful alchemist (provided she is not coughing up blood). Someone (I think dreamless) then asks is it based on her fists & kicks. Of course the Father is excluded from this discussion...

Well...
Spoiler for Izumi-san sugoi renkinjutsushi ne:

The new ninja chick is teh cuteness. Discuss.

Hmm, the guy felt something was wrong with Edo's country just by looking at the sky/wing/air...what could he be sensing?

Cute but too shy... come on girl, just grab Lin Yao and smother him with love!!! Joking... her shyness is understandable if they are basing Xing totally on Chinese culture. There is some sort of a caste system in the past and the servants are not allowed to fall in love with their masters.

And no I do not think they can be classified as ninjas. Come on they look and behave more like the Chinese martial arts assassins in all those martial art movies.

Nah, its what you would call Sixth Sense. Lin just probably feels that there is something wrong with Amestris. Trouble's brewing or some big disaster is about to happen, etc.

Side Note: yangxi has released the Chinese scans of Vol 7 (Chp 26-29). So his latest works has ensured that the entire 33 chapters so far are available to Chinese readers.

Tsk, picky picky! I think I referred to them as ninja because assassins' doing escort job just didn't seem right. ^_^;;

I didn't respond to this earlier in this thread because the whole sequence wasn't very clearly translated in the Chinese scanslation, but I've always felt they came up with the same answer, just that they took turns saying the two portions of it. Well now anime episode 28 pretty much shows that Al and Ed did exactly that, but instead of answering "man" in the second portion like he was supposed to, Ed said "me" instead--thus the surprised look on Izumi's face. So yah, I still stand by my belief that "seeing the Truth" basically means one needs to venture to that empty, blank realm and converse with that being.

Well if I'm the head of a noble house, I certainly want people who can kill anyone before the latter can kill me as my body guards

Nope while I do agree that the standard answer would have to be answering "man" or "us" as the one component, Edward's answer stems from his own pride and belief. Izumi could have whacked the hell out of him for that answer. But when you analyse his answer, it is more truthful than anything. It is akin to "Cogito Ergo Sum" or "I think therefore I am". Alphonse in his disbelief shows that he has not grasped that concept at that moment. At least that is my interpretation. Note that they never show Al showing his disbelief of Ed's answer in the anime.

We now know that Al also can do it. However he admits that it is not as proficient or as good as Ed, though he believes he could become as good as Ed. This further makes me believe that he is slightly slower in catching on to the data obtained from the Truth than Ed.

Poor Ed...it won't be long for the series to be retitled to 鎧の錬金術師

Pride is still unrevealed so far in the manga.

Here's my speculation on Wrath's powers.

Basically it seems the Sins' powers are related to where their Uroboros tattoos are located.

Gluttony - Tongue - Eats anything
Envy - Skin of Left Thigh - Metamorph
Lust - Skin of Chest - Extended Nails
Greed - Skin of back of Hands - Diamond body shield
Sloth - ??
Wrath - Eye - See below

Now what would a tattoo on the eye symbolise? Likely that Wrath's power is based on foresight as well as the proverb "The eye is the window to one's soul". Likely Wrath can see all the possible actions that his enemy can take (or even the action that the enemy will take) and counter him faster than the enemy could react. Thus Wrath is almost invincible if the enemy is within his reach.

Also it is likely that Wrath can intimidate his enemy by sight and prowess such that they are slightly affected in their fighting ability.

Wrath does seem to possess those abilities, however I'm wondering about the nature of his 'Sin' moniker. He doesn't seem to be anger manifest but, more like 'divine retribution' which is another interpretation of the term. The question would then be retribution for what or whom...the Father perhaps?

That is one of my speculation as well. I am harbouring hope for Wrath to at the end, turn into a 'good guy'. He seems to be the most well adjusted among the Sins. Not to say that his circumstances and environment present a perfect opportunity for him to learn and 'change'. Anyway he did execute the 'divine retribution' role when he revealed his identity then isn't it?

I like the idea of him being wise enough to learn and change, if he's working for a 'divine' purpose then this will place him above the others as they seem to be lead by each other, incapable of acting alone without guidance or advice from their peer. (In the anime it also looks like the others are working around Wrath, or at least trying not to get him involved just yet).

I was thinking he's a different to the other Humonculus, working apart from the trio of Lust, Gluttony and Envy. The way he took down Greed was one of the best bits of the manga for me so far, just such a wicked display of power and ruthlessness that demonstrates his mission.

However I do feel this was slightly undone when he then appears with the afore- mentioned trio, to complete the job. But it remains to be seen how he deals with them...

Also...he ages the fastest, so his agenda deep down might not be the same as the others Sins who can live 200+ years.

i'm getting the impression that from now on the anime will totally diverge from the manga. In other words, I think that there won't be any Arc with chinese assassins and whatnot. The anime is moving too fast and there are around 20 episodes left to it. It doesn't seem likely that they'll include that bit with the Chinese assassins. BTW, who thinks that the anime is far better than the manga? Comparing both versions, I'm liking the anime a bit more. Maybe because most of the manga focused on rush valley too much rather than continue with the plot. ( I'm just assuming that, cuz I can't read chinese but the whole rush valley scene was so boring, with the baby being born and everything. Sigh...kinda reminds me of Elisha-chan.) Yeah, and the anime has more action that what we've seen in the manga so far, IMHO.

Uh... the impression that the anime will diverge in how the story will be told has been given much much earlier like in the ep 20-23 region. It was even confirmed much earlier by Arakawa herself in a press conference. So no... I expect they will not include any or much material from chp 29 onwards.

You would not find me in the "anime>manga" camp. Right off from the start, I find them on par with each other. But with these new adaptations, the anime while still good is sliding in terms of story & plot.

That's because Elysia Hughes' birth was adapted from the Rush Valley manga arc. In the manga, the Elrics were never involved in her birth. The anime crew adapted it in probably because they did not want to handle the Rush Valley arc in their version of events.

Nope there is just as enough action there. The only difference is that a lot of the intermediate animation is not there. You have to visualise it. If they had put in every frame of 'action' in the manga, the number of volumes could easily increase from the current 7 volumes to 14 volumes.

Given what we have seen in the manga and anime, I think it is already safe to conclude that the story has already diverged at the point where the Innocent Child made his appearance.

Either that or some portions of the future manga storyline has been advanced forward in the anime.
