Btw, in case anyone is interested, there's a review of FB7 with a pretty detailed description of its contents here in Macross World.

It should answer most questions you have about it (except for the one of why Alto doesn't appear).

Gubaba also gives his thoughts on it a bit further down the page...

edit: and another review...

My current thoughts: I might watch it, maybe...in lieu of watching Macross 7. I shall look forward to seeing Eva:Q instead.

If anyone's interested in "canonicity," (i.e. WHERE in Macross F did this happen), I'll point out that Ranka was wearing her private school uniform, and Sheryl was wearing her white jacket + sunglasses + pink hat ensemble.

So it must've happened sometime during Episode 3.

Oh, and Karice already kinda/sorta linked to it, but here's my review of the movie (and the AWESOME day that surrounded it):

Dude, that's AWESOME!!

So, what kinda face that he made when you asked his opinion about FB7? Did he look pleased or un-pleased?

He pretty clearly didn't like it...else he wouldn't've hemmed and hawed.

I thought so.

I'm actually quite confused with his answer:

Renato: What did you think of the movie?
Fukuyama: Well, this was the first time I'd seen it...

What the! (damn escalator! if only we can hear it more)

No, that was his entire answer. He was saying that if he saw it again, maybe he'd like it more, but since he only had seen it once, he might have missed something or misunderstood something...

(i.e. He was trying to be polite about not liking it, saying it was HIS fault, not the movie's.)

I find that hilarious because all of M7's bad qualities are its extremely long run of fillers and plot holes. The good qualities are the music tracks. There's nothing to misunderstand. M7 isn't worthy of being recognized outside of its music. Point blank.

It did provide probably the most hilarious way to get someone to "listen to my song" in the form of a speaker missile combined with a forced visual transmission gets bulkhead rattling Rock into an enemy battleship. Drives the enemy commander and crew nuts...first in a bad "shoot all the missiles" way...than in the "Deculture" way of mass fangirling. Massively massive fangirling. Shown the way perhaps by the Battle 7 firing the Cannon into the "air" so to speak. The new fangirls followed this example for the remainder of the song. The UNSPACY personel were about as dumbfounded as the audiance.

But is was hilarious.

I guess I'm in the minority, because I actually enjoyed M7. Yeah, I mean once you get passed the stock footage they used at the beginning of the eps (which I skipped anyway), its not that bad.
