I could just keep listing them, but these are a few who I think deserve more credit for their piloting skills in a general sense.

Unlike all the other characters, i thought Johnny Ridden never appeared in animated form. Wasn't the character created solely to sell model kits of his variant zaku?

First impressions count, yes. Even if he did manage to damage Gai's custom GINN severely, the first time he appeared in the anime, he was doing poorly. Taken down by a simple bit of overconfidence.
Whereas those of the Astray readers had their first impression of Gai as someone who "did well". His "defeat" only became apparent later on. It is little surprise, then, that most people would admire the character whose first impression was more positive.

yes poor chronicle he lost easier than shinn did, the only diffrence is he didn't lose via plot device.he was a good pilot but his purpose was the story rasther than being a good pilot.

Mikhail Kaminsky aka Misha I'd consider as underrated. His MS is popular, but he himself seems to be ignored in favor of Bernie as a pilot. Taking out the entirety of the Gray Phantom's MSes as well as all of the Riah forces single-handedly is impressive, even if he lost to the Alex in the end.

I have to wonder if the fight against the Alex would have went different if he hadn't exhausted so much of his ammunition and fuel against the other forces already.

Miguel Aiman and Heine Westenfluss. Seems any character voiced by TM Revolution is underrated in the sense theyre both aces in their prime but they got easily killed by the more popular and "stronger" enemies.

its a hit and run MS, meaning its for destroying targets and getting the hell out, rather than 1v1. besides, it doesn't need a lot of beam weapons since UC has no phase shift armor, conventional ammo would do fine.

its a hit and run MS, meaning its for destroying targets and getting the hell out, rather than 1v1. besides, it doesn't need a lot of beam weapons since UC has no phase shift armor, conventional ammo would do fine.

A beam spray gun would be fine (though I don't know if it's powerful enough to go through the chobham armor+luna titanium armor or whatever Alex is made of, it's still stronger than regular titanium/ceramic armor), remember that conventional weapons have little to no effects on Gundam's armor (well, a few bazooka shots would breach the armor tho, otherwise it would make battles as boring as in SEED )

Also, Chuck Keith from 0083 is a bit underrated, he might not be as good as Kou in piloting MS, but he still does a good job protecting Albion and I like his positive attitude
