I'm not sure if I would prefer the PC or PS2 version to be animated...maybe it's because I played Clannad Afterstory 1st round and Tomoyo After back to back, but man, I was really depressed from all the tragedy

In some regards, the bad end for Tomoyo After is better than the true end...

I was in the mood to play a short galge in the past 2 days, and I somehow picked tomoyo after (PC) even though I haven't completed CLANNAD yet, including Tomoyo's route. So, I finished the bad ending, then I went for the true ending. It was already a bit late in the midnight when I decided to go for it, but since I already picked the last choice in game (that would lead to the ending), I thought it wouldn't take much longer. It turned out to be much, much longer than I expected, and I ended up staying up the whole night. Now I can't help but to let out what I feel in words here.

Don't read ahead if you haven't played the game, mainly 1)it contains major spoilers, and 2)it might destroy your desire of playing it.

I really wouldn't call that a "bittersweet" ending. Maybe if the true ending stopped at where they left the village, it could be a bittersweet ending, but this is just too much. Seeing how tomoyo after is the 3rd time that I've seen something involving memory lost in the past 3 months (Chihiro in ef, Miumi in Memories Off #5, and now Tomoya in this), I thought I would be numb to such setting, but boy was I wrong. When it said the surgery's chance of success was less than half, I already knew it would be very likely not a happy ending, but... okay, Tomoyo might have said that she and Tomoya found the treasures of their lives, and how she would help others to find theirs, blah blah blah. I haven't played Tomoyo's route in CLANNAD so I don't know her background story, but from the "selfish" point of view, what exactly did she do to deserve letting go of her sister whom she treasured so much to stay with her mom, who didn't have many days left, and then spending 3 years with Tomoya who kept forgetting about her, then even though Tomoya recovered his memory from the surgery, she only got to stay with him for a short period of time before an eternal farewell? Is that really a "wonderful life"?

Key, thank you so much for ruining my day. I'm completely worn out right now yet I can't fall asleep.

Maybe I will try to challenge DUNGEONS & TAKAFUMIS later on today to lighten up my mood, even though I'm not sure if that will work out.

It's rather hard to swallow, but at the same time, I think the ending was just that: "bittersweet"

She lost Tomoya in a physical sense, but at the same time, she learned that their love was eternal...no matter how many times they separated, they've never changed their feelings towards each other. These shouldn't be spoilers as they were in this game too. Their 8 month separation after Tomoyo became student council president...their short separation while Tomoya decided to follow his heart for Tomo...their long 3 year separation of cyclic loss of memory...each time, they're still in love. While Tomoya's loss is painful, the eternal idealistic love that she knows of gives her the strength to move forward.

That love is the ultimate treasure of her life and having that intangible treasure gives her life meaning, depth, and ultimately makes it a wonderful life for her. It's a hard concept to swallow... :/

tomoya died or not, there are hints everywhere that kinda shown that he is indeed dead after that surgery, but im still kinda skeptical deep inside i just dont want him to die leaving tomoyo like that.. jesus

from what i've read and conceived myself, its all down to interpretation. you can go either way with that one. i believe the devs and writer left it open ended for the gamer to decide.

ps, i'm perfectly alright with the depressing stuff since i'm normally a happy go lucky optimistic person. it balances me out. i was "normal" for days after i finished AIR...

well, it's technically noted as a "bad ending" but...

if you opt to have sex with Tomoyo instead of building the school for Tomo, Kanako and Takafumi eventually leave Tomoya's apartment, Tomo stays with Tomoya/Tomoyo (god that's confusing...) and Tomoya/Tomoyo's relationship takes on a much more physical aspect than an emotional aspect (no additional CG for this part) and they go on with life together for better or for worse.
