When will Luffy and Shanks reunite?

First off, I want to hear anime watchers opinions on this too, so please put anything pertaining to the manga in spoiler tags.

As the title asks, what do you think?

First thing I thought of:

So lets assume Blackbeard is as strong as Shanks says he is, and Blackbeard was the victor in the battle between him and Ace. Now that Luffy's bounty is 300m, Blackbeard is going to be incredibly eager to nab him. When he finds Luffy and his crew, and as he's doing that Ace finds Shanks and warns him that Blackbeard is after Luffy, maybe Shanks will come to the rescue?

Corny and lame I know, so lets hear some better ideas.

I certainly hope this isn't the case, cause it's going to be a long ass time before Luffy is strong enough to defeat Shanks, and i want to see them meet Shanks and his crew before then.

To be the pirate king, I believe you need to get all pirates to bow down to you, and the stronger pirates like shanks won't bow down to Luffy without a fight.

I believe Shanks is capable of killing whitebeard..But if he kills Whitebeard then it'll only give a better advantage to World Goverment side against pirates.
Probably Shanks will learn that Ace has been defeated and going to run after Luffy to save him from Blackbeard and Luffy-Shanks will unite against Blackbeard.

I think it'd be a close fight (WB vs Shanks), not sure who'd edge out though.

If Ace was defeated by Blackbeard, then Ace would still have to tell Shanks, cause otherwise Shanks wouldn't know.

but we dont know if ace met with shanks yet.He was already after Blackbeard for revenge and might've heard someone not capable to defeat BB like Ace running after him around.We might even say that he could be aware of ace as luffy's brother and that'd be why he was looking for him.

Well he'd already gone searching for raftel rather than camping/partying at random islands if he really wanted to be pirate king.He just loves being a pirate and good at his job to get yonkou rank =) besides considering that Luffy is his friend and knowing the goal he's trying to reach, he cant accept it to ruin dreams of "new era" pirates.

Actually it looks like he's trying to do something like ending wars between 3 rulers, wiping out the old sacred legends including himself and giving a chance to new pirates to reach their dreams.

I'm not QUITE sure what you just said, but...

Ace only found out BB was after Luffy before they fought (chapter 440) so unless the conclusion of that battle is going to be told through a flashback by Shanks (when he meets up with Luffy or something), we'll find out the conclusion before shanks sets off to help Luffy (if he ever does)

What I was trying to say that, Ace cant tell his situation to Shanks because we have no proof that they met.If he's still alive then he may run back to WB ship and stop the fight between two yonkou by telling that Blackbeard is a monster now.
The thing shanks was looking for him maybe coz of
1)Shanks and Ace already met
2)Shanks might have heard that Luffy's brother was in search for Blackbeard and wanted to help him.

I'm pretty sure Shanks has met Ace at one time or another, given his "Ace is strong, I know that very well.... It's not yet time for them to meet each other" (chapter 434) implies some sense of familiarity, I think.

Hmm, I'll admit, I thought it sounded a bit absurd at first, but it's not entirely out of the range of possibility, assuming that the Strawhats had gotten to a level worthy of being equals, then fighting the Revolutionaries. But I think the Blackbeard fights will come quite a bit sooner than the Revo's.

Well, while it's not impossible, i do doubt the luufy vs Shanks... quite frankly they don't have any reason to fight eachother, even the reason for a friendly fight are kind of weak. Really, just seeing how far Luffy has come would be enough from him to see how good of a pirate shanks has become... they don't really need to prove it through strength... i think a meeting between Shanks and Luffy would some some co-op fighting followed by big ass party ^^

Something i would find interesting, even though it is probably less plausable than a friendly duel between Shanks and Luffy, is Shanks VS Zoro. Shanks is the former rival of Mihawk, making him arguably the 2nd strongest swordsman in the world, which in turn makes him the best second to last fight for Zoro (before he guns for Mihawk)... the thing is, there is alot of potential drama involved... First we have Zoro's goal, to beat Mihawk, and fighting shanks would help him... second, we have Luffy's feelings, he wouldn't want Shanks and Zoro fighting... third, We have Zoro's words to Luffy when he first joined Luffy "if you ever get in the way of my dream, i will kill you"... add those three things together and you get some very nice drama and tension...

Well, my main reasons for thinking of a friendly duel between the duel is him testing Luffy to see if he's worthy of fighting Whitebeard. Even if Shanks and Whitebeard are equal in strength, I don't think Shanks would be able to go all out against Luffy.

And damn, I REALLY want to see that. But if it's handled badly it could go horribly wrong, but done rightly....Woah, totally fucking awesome.

Meh...
"Beat" means more then beating in a fight... hell, just by obtaining one piece and beating the other emperoers would be "beating" shanks
Also, the nature of Luffy's crew contradicts his crew challenging Shank's...
Afterall, Most of the crew does not like to fight... this includes Sanji, who, though he can fight well, doesn't fight without a good reason; really i think Luffy and Zoro are the only ones who actually like fighting (not to mention that, other than Shanks, there doesn't seem to be anyone Zoro would care about fighting)

Franky too would enjoy fighting... but that's still 3 out of 8 members
And Brooke, if he joins, also doesn't seem like the type to fight without a good reason

not to mention, why would Luffy's last fight be weaker than Zoro's last fight... shouldn't Luffy's last fight be against the the strongest character in the series; of which at this point would be Whitebeard... and if Luffy beats the strongest person in the series then what would he have left to prove by fighting shanks? nothing, since he already proved he was stronger than him by beating the other guy.

Do you actually think Oda made Shanks for no reason? Do you actually think Shanks is just created just to sail around the New World drinking all the time? Obviously he is after One Piece and Luffy will most likely have to CONQUER the New World to find One Piece and most likely he will have to beat his Idol Shanks (Who was the first important character introduced to the story, Luffy's idol). Shanks and Mihawk are said to be rivals and Zoro and Luffy fighting both their idols is ideal for their story. Luffy and Zoro's fight would be EVEN because Shanks and Mihawk are even. We don't even know if Whitebeard would last until the series end (The guy is on life support and supposedly Blackbeard is trying to take his spot).

can i ask you if that part of Story happn only in managa or it's show in anime ? because i dont remmber i saw that

It should be animated soon, unless they decide to put a few filler arcs before then.

I've been wondering though, about Shanks.

Shanks got that scar across his eye from Blackbeard, which means he got it before he first met Luffy, which means it was long before Blackbeard got his Devil Fruit. Now either this means that when Shanks met Luffy he wasn't one of the main powers of the ocean (Yonkou, or something?) or Blackbeard is a serious contender in One Piece. Perhaps both. Does this mean at that time Blackbeard wasn't apart of the Whitebeard pirates? Cause I'd imagine Shanks would've warned him [Whitebeard] that he has a particulary dangerous man on board, but it seemed like when he met with Whitebeard, this was the first warning he's given.

If Shanks was a big deal when he fought Blackbeard (if he was, god knows what he was doing out of the Grandline), he would've had his hat on him still. Scarring someone like Shanks surely would leave an impression on Blackbeard, so why doesn't he associate Luffy's hat to Shanks? Unless, like I said before, he wasn't a bigshot back then.

So the point of this unintelligible piece is that my first theory of Shanks vs Blackbeard to save Luffy might be a bit more complicated than I first thought.
