(L) New Evangelion Project: Rebuild of Evangelion [Movies 1 & 2]

Eva won't get a "second season" as it's always been a single-season story. It was never intended to be exceptionally long.

Anyway. Current Internet Rumblings point to Rebuild being picked up by big-name (as in, Sony or Columbia big) movie companies, so the price wars may be getting so high as to move out of the range of the "regular" distributors. I'm a bit miffed there was no announcement at AX; I'm hoping we'll have a release date for the first movie here in the States before the second arrives in Japan.

Rumours I hear would be late '08 or early '09 (basically the last fiscal year of '08), but even then, there's no official news and its already almost september.

The copy I bought was labelled "Collector's Edition", but that's a total lie. As usual, it's the same kind of crappy product that local anime distributors push out (at least it isn't ODEX though). The box claims to contain an introductory booklet, but it turns out you have to mail a card to InnoformMedia (postage not included) together with your details before they would send you the "gift". *facepalms*

Who runs these stupid companies? Clueless ah bengs (ie, filthy uneducated punks) who don't seem to understand what kinds of trouble they can get into by using false advertising. Oh well, what can you expect from a product selling for only around S$20 (US$14.65)? The packaging is shite, barely a notch above bootleg DVDs. The video quality is likewise terrible (but that is probably not its fault, since the master copy isn't in hi-definition), not much better than downloaded versions.

My advice to Singaporeans who want to collect this show is to buy R1 copies online. Our local anime distributors deserve to go out of business for failing to understand what their customers want. Or perhaps they do - Singaporeans have become so used to paying peanuts for shitty video that they refuse to pay more for better quality. We still have VCDs on the shelves, for crying out loud, in a time of HDTVs. Arrgh.

I bought the R3HK CE. I also own the R2J LE. It is true that the R3 has inferior PQ. Even to a d/l version using the best DivX.

The English subtitles it uses are not Nyo~ but the other one, which has Gendou saying "the bastard's found us" & ranks Misato as Lt.Col. Still its cheap, better than a bootleg translation, & the only legit English subtitled DVD so far. There is no R1 yet...& no announcement was made at AX or Otakon this year.

Christian lore.I did find the entire series to be difficult to watch, but to watching it

for some reason. Also, relied heavily on the "we need chicks in

spandex bondage gear" in order to sell Mecha Anime.

Gainax has been milking the franchise for all its worth since it became popular. I don't think even TTGL beats it in the merchandise department.

According to Evageeks, Newtype December will have a short coverage on 2.0 and there are reports of a new trailer on Niconico (I don't have an account there, I can't remember where was the registration tutorial and I dunno where the vid is at all - so no YouTube alternative, sorry) showcasing the slightly retooled Eva-02.

I know the Evas were based on Onis but...errr, I'm not sure I like this new look, although the changes are minimal. I concede - had it been introduced in the TV series from the very start, I might have come to like it...but compared to the original design...nah. It's still nice, but it won't be my ultimate pick.

Now, if someone could find that dratted vid and haul it to YouTube, I'd be infinitely grateful.
