He's already being pitted directly against Souma in a straight-up match in the dish of his utmost specialty. If his curry loses against Souma's, he may feel that he's not worthy of being in the main tournament...

Or something stupid like that.

The only remaining scores unaccounted for in Group A is Souma and Hayama, whom in all likelihood will hit the 90s. Marui & Ibusaki are tied at 88, which would put them at least 4th place. There'd be a need for a tie-breaker, unless Souma or Hayama scores lower, and I doubt this story will go tie-breaker for a bunch of side-characters.

Group B is tough, man.

The fact that Marui was going to go before Ibusaki, Hayama & Souma was a big hint that he's not going to live up to the hype.

Rule of cool + story development cliches determines that in a leaderboard battle royale, the highest scores will normally go to those who occupy the following categories:
- First high score.
- 2nd last score.
- Last score revealed.
