Ok, since it's been a page and I've gotten no comments, I'm just posting my entry one more time before I decide it's my final or not... C&C? Anyone?

To me, the image is a bit too dark, and it's hard to see the details that says it's "cyberpunk".

Why do I get the feeling that a lot of entries do not fit the Cyberpunk theme at all? Well,it sure is easily confused with cyber in general >.<

Thanks for the comments

I tried adding some stuff to the bg and reworked the text... hopefully it helps with the theme? Or is it too busy now?

Spoiler for ver. 01 for comparison:

I think those are incredible improvements. I like the new version over the old one.
IMHO, however, it could use some extra colour effects. Try using a lighting c4d on the background, to make a glowy effect on the upper half and a dark bottom half (keep the text on the bg tho). I would also add a yellow/white linear gradient on overlay to lighten it up a bit (erase the gradient parts which makes the sig's colours look wierd tho).

The lighting streak on the bottom right of the girl's head is out-of-place IMO. Maybe make the girl's eye glow a bit more? Also, personally, I would love it if the girl's hair is distinguishable from the black bg. So maybe give the girl's head a slightly lighter aura so that the hair's outline is visible.

Yeah, I think I agree, maybe the description wasn't clear enough?

To re-quote:
Quote:
Cyberpunk is a science fiction genre noted for its focus on "high tech and low life". The name is a blend of cybernetics and punk and...It features advanced science, such as information technology and cybernetics, coupled with a degree of breakdown or radical change in the social order.
source: Wikipedia
The bold phrases name what I think is missing from some of the entries, namely the 'punk' side. Taking "low life" and "...a breakdown...in the social order" into consideration, imagine the corresponding images and textures that might be used in a sig. Grunge? Smudging? Focus on lighting? A render with a character befitting a dirty, environmentally unpleasant society (think the opposite of utopia)?

These concepts may be difficult to grasp and portray in a sig, but I think you guys are capable of it if you try. Take the time to look into the steampunk or cyberpunk cultures so you have a better idea of what they entail.

If your sig just has some random character plugged into some wires or machine, yet lacks any connection to the type of society associated with "cyberpunk," then I suggest re-thinking the sig's approach to the theme.

Link to Wiki's list of cyberpunk works (literary, film, animation, etc.). I don't agree with all of them as some go into interplanetary travel and super-future technology instead of the near-future Earth, but it's a good start.

I agree that a lot of entries are missing the 'punk' feel. Is mine alright? It's not from a cyberpunk anime but I thought it gives off the atmosphere of one, especially those wires hooking up to the guy....

Third try.... I tried adding lighting, any comments?

Wait... the bottom looks too dark now... arghh...

What wires? (that said, it does fit the theme IMO)

I think it's a bit too dark to notice the wires, if you go back to the fifth page of the autumn voting, he posted up his stock.

But adding to that, Haladflire, I don't think your light source is fitting - it sticks out, maybe try a light color from your sig instead of white. Also, the sig kinda remained dark even with the lighting - maybe lighten it a,lil?

Strange, because I saw them at the first look.

I think yours fits the theme. Of the 2 versions here, I prefer v2, since you can see the chair and wires a bit better. The lighting doesn't help with that newer version. Instead of adding a lighting effect, which I think you did here, you may want to try using a lighting brush set to dodge with a light colour and apply it on a separate layer, then erase whatever you don't want. Also, you can use the dodge tool to lighten up specific areas of your sig, without lighting the entire thing up (unless that's what you want to do).

On another note, I don't see a lot of steampunk attempts.

Steampunk, IMO, is probably the harder theme of the two. Personally, I found it harder to enhance pictures containing steam, without removing the steam. Besides, Victorian/Edwardian era clothing are boring to look at in a sig.

Fix'd. Thanks for the feedback, everyone

I'm leaning towards going textless... This might be my final entry.

True. I had problems finding good pictures for either theme. This month's a real challenge.

Wait...you need to show steam as well for the steampunk theme? Argh...seems like I'm missing at least one required element one way or another.
