I vote that it's your memory. It's actually Sakura's house (if you recall the original D.C.), and she's his guardian. You'll recall the first episode of the first season where she called him to ask him to fetch some papers she left from home. She also was there when he brought Minatsu over for dinner that one time, and a few other times in the show. It's just that, overall, you don't see her that much because she's a busy school principal after all... But clearly, you'll see her a bit more this time around.

Well, I don't really find her to look that child-like anymore (though she does look similar to 53 years ago, of course, but very few in the show would know that). I guess people just see her as being sort of petite, which isn't that uncommon in Japan (should get Vexx to comment on this one ).

The issue of her age hasn't come up yet in the show, though I'm sure it will at some point...

Edit: After watching the whole episode, knowing the game story, I'm completely happy with the way things are heading. I like how they blended in the first season with Koko, and made reference to the band. But of course the real story is Otome, Yume, and especially Sakura. I was suprised by how much foreshadowing they were leaving! They're definitely making what's going on a little bit more obvious right from the get-go, but I can see why (mostly time management).

In terms of the production, I love the music as usual. ED is great as they all are -- totally love it. The OP... Art and animation continue to be much like the first season, which makes sense since this really the same production split in two parts.

All in all, this is looking like it's going to be the game adaptation I wanted it to be, so it makes me happy.

If I remember correctly, I think you said that Otome was your favorite char. So maybe that's why you are so pleased to where the story is going. But you never know what kinda twist they might do and change it toward Yume, they haven't even started getting into her character (at least not much compared to Otome) in the anime. Now I must admit, Yume is my favorite character, but so far, it seems the story is going straight for Otome. As long as Yume get enough screen time, I'll be happy .

Yes I would have to agree there are lots of game hints in the OP . It seems they are mixing Yume and Otome's route, I just hope it's done properly. And also, I couldn't help laughing at the dream Yoshiyuki was having , it's practicly right out of the game lol.

One thing I am surprised about though... They technically started the story over and at the same time, are giving hints of the end. I don't know if that's such a wise decision on direction...

HOLY CRAP! What a way to start a new season...whoa.... What a dream!

It started out rather good and amusing, thought there were going to be more of the 2 sisters, but I guess wrong. Looks like it's picking up where it left off....more Koko...... damn was hoping for something new, actually it does seem to involve more or Sakura and the 2 sisters...hmm not sure what to think I guess... But wow Ototo-kun and Ne-san seem to have a rather blazing chemistry, yup definitely intentionally showing us it. I wonder who his choice or who he will fall for will be.... What was with that strange feeling of despair son to come with the whole sakura tree scene? Tree coming back to life or something bad a magical going to happen in the future? Hmm a much different vibe from season 1, should be interesting.

As previously stated by previous posters, I'm enjoying how the story is moving. I was confused at why D.C.II was shown the way it is, but it makes perfect sense now given how the episode played out. The ED made me really sad though...

What I'm happy about, relative to the game story, is that they seem to be literally adapting the "core story" this time. I sort of resent how people (not necessarily you) tend to make it out to be some 'shipping thing, like "oh, you like Otome, so that's why you're happy". But, if you must know, I actually preferred Yume's story (best-written story in the game, IMO), but Otome as a character. So the fact that they're combining the two is just great; I really don't care at all "who wins". The main thing is that, character preferences aside, this is the real "heart" of the D.C. II story, which should be pretty obvious to all given that it heavily involves Sakura and the sakura tree. And the fact that the first episode was extremely faithful to the game, along with hints in the OP/ED, suggest strongly what's to come, and that's what I wanted to see. The first season was true to the game in a lot of ways, but they had to remix it in order to not have the timelines conflict. But seeing what they're doing now increased my appreciation for what they were trying to do with the first season and why.

And you're not kidding that it's "practically right out of the game" -- the opening scene is exactly the same (it's a literal animation of the game CG -- that happened a lot in the first season as well) and most (all?) of the dialog is identical. So yeah, that's what I'm talking about. The only variation is what he wakes up to, but they're doing that for time management reasons (heavier emphasis on Sakura during the story segment, rather than as an epilogue as it was in the game). That's also the reason for the extra foreshadowing; as a game player, it seems like a lot, but keep in mind there already was a lot of foreshadowing in the first season too, but it flew right over most people's heads (as should be expected -- it's only obvious on the second viewing of the story).

Pretty much all of the storytelling decisions they've made in the anime come down to "there's only one timeline". The game was structured in "layers" so that you understood more and more of the story the more times you played. The anime is designed to be linear (minus a few flashbacks). As with the first season, they're structuring all of the different story threads so that they'll all come together at once by the end of the season. I think it should work out pretty well.

Either I'm misunderstanding what you're saying in your first paragraph or you misunderstood what I was saying in my first. Now I noticed you said "not necessarily you" but I felt I should clear this up just incase .

What I was implying, is that when someone favors a character, they would like to see them get the most attention, it's only natural to feel that way, that's all I was saying. I was not at all saying that "this character is your favorite and she is going to win, so of course you will like it! My favorite is getting not going to win so I hate it!". I actually don't like it either when people hate a show/story because their favorite doesn't win in the end. All I want is enough attention. Basicly as you say, I would like to see it go the same way as the original story with it's own mix. I actually don't mind Otome winning, it's how the story is told and what will be ignored is what I'm concerned about. One paticular scene in the OP shows Yume with her lunch, I'm concerned if they will do that properly and not cut it down due to time constrictions.

I hope I cleared that up, I'm not sure if I did >_<;;

As for the stories of each girl, it would have to be a toss up between Nanaka and Yume for me. Otome's story has alot of amusing bits so I would like to see those for sure . What would really shock me is that they do some kinda anime original and make it an Otome & Yume ending. I can sure see that happening due to how close their stories were. But the problem with an ending like that would be, there is no end, things would continue as they were. Unless of course... the sisters come to a compromise that they would share... O_o;;

Watched it late at night. I liked the episode a lot. I tried hard to understand what they were saying but some parts missed me. They even tried to settle things with Koko somehow. Not very successful though. It sounded more like auto-suggestion or auto-training.

What I found good about it:

Actually, I see a way for the end of the Yume path to be integrated into the story without disturbing the end of the Otome path. Since iirc, there are some plot holes left by the Yume path that is told in the Otome/DC path. You are right though...there be many tears shed later on
