I'm really on pins and needles until I can locate a raw. As an L fan, this ep is pretty important to me, as pathetic as that sounds.

So far I've been very impressed with Kappei's performance--though I am a fan of his so maybe I'm terribly biased--but this is make it or break it time. Several of my favorite L lines are in this episode, including the one that made me into an L fan. Since this is the first time we see the face with the voice, I'm a little bit tense...

Hmmm, well, compared to last week's nailbiting episode, this was a much more subdued episode. However, by the end, you could cut the tension with a knife. Even without action, the series is still managing to up the ante and keep winding the tension even more tightly.

L's mannerisms are certainly quite interesting. It's probably because he so very, very rarely interacts with people that he acts in a relatively uninhibited manner. He doesn't seem to feel the need for decorum. I like to put my feet (unshod, of course) on my seat too (it stretches my back muscles nicely), but it's certainly not something to do in the presence of company.

And writing with permanent marker on the hotel's coffee table ...

. He's probably rolling in money - or at least I hope he can afford to pay for that.

And as for Ray's fiancee, I'll take back some of what I said about her previously. She still jumped to a conclusion too quickly in episode 5, I think, but in this episode, she has a bit more to back up her claims. The point about Ray showing his FBI ID is definitely a very strong clue that shouldn't be ignored.

I'm very impressed by how tense this episode ended up being. It wasn't the heart-racing tension of last week (which was strongly aided by the bombastic music, I'm sure), but it was certainly a much darker, more frightening sort of forboding. I can't wait to see next week's episode - and yet I'm dreading it too.

And, watching this week's episode, I realise that I've seen spoilers around here without realising it. I'd really like people who have read the manga to avoid dropping any sort of information or hint that is not yet available to anime viewers. For example,

Spoiler for Ray's fiancee and possibly episode 7:

Manga readers should know better than to casually drop important information like that. So, please do take care what you write in your posts, and enclose them with spoiler tags as necessary.

The whole L part was pretty interesting. After the episode i went back to re-read the part of the manga.. and i just couldn't image L's voice in my head at all. :3

What got me most interested was the fiancee's part of the episode, and how the episode ended in that cliffhanger style way.

hmm interesting point...but heres a question...would the death note also have worked if the guy wasnt named Lind L. Taylor in the first place but was forced to change his name to it? ie Lind L. Taylor has become his real new name?

If you got it legally changed, I would believe that you probably could be killed using your new name. However, if it were just a case of you assuming another name (ie - your real name is John but you just started getting other people to call you Bob), it shouldn't work that way. It is something to think about though, for those people who have legally changed their names...

The only complaint I have with this episode is that it's too convenient for Light to meet Ray's fiancee just like that. Too much of a coincident.

Also, I don't like Ray's fiancee's VA. Her performance is subpar and too old for the character.

Which, of course, gives away what will happen in episode 7, since ... Spoiler for Another spoiler warning for episode 7: Light will try to kill her with that name - and it won't work. Manga readers should know better than to casually drop important information like that. So, please do take care what you write in your posts, and enclose them with spoiler tags as necessary.

musouka Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2003	Spoiler for episode 6: Though all the complaining on 2ch had me quite worried, I liked this portrayal of L. He's a little disquieting and creepy, but those are the things I love about L to begin with. For example, his delivery on the line "seigi wa kanarazu katsu toiu koto o" was almost opposite of what I expected, but in retrospect I really liked it because it was so...strange. I really really like Ray's fiancee. She's got a good head on her shoulders. I think this episode really hits home that Light is not only smart, but he's also been very very lucky at this point in time. His move with the FBI agents was huge risk with a lot of variables that are impossible for him to track.

Spoiler: the story takes us to L's HQ (hotel actually) and he deduces what kira might have been doing between the test killings and the killings of the FBI agents... Please go back and remove her name, and please do avoid throwing out any sort of information that anime watchers should not know at the time of the episode in discussion. From what we can see from the episode 7 preview, it is obvious that the name is a crucial plot point and should not be mentioned outside of a spoiler tag before then.
