Itsuki is far more complex than Kaworu, imo.

and I'd suggest that you watch Asuka's introductory episode again. Tell me she doesn't remind you of Haruhi the way she drags Shinji around.

Haruhi has genki girl traits that Asuka is entirely lacking.

Haruhi never had a mental breakdown on the level of what Asuka had.

Overall, Haruhi is far happier than Asuka is.


Haruhi wants to lead a group, and values group victories greatly. Friendships are very important to her, and she's quite loyal to her friends.

Asuka is essentially a loner who would much rather gain individual glory than be part of a team effort. It's no coincidence that Asuka's greatest moment was when she was fighting by herself, in a moment of solo glory, in End of Eva.


The differences between the two are substantial.

Haruhi's characters were pretty obviously inspired by NGE if nothing else,

Yuki was. I disagree on the rest of the Haruhi cast, though.

Haruhi is a popular enough anime in its own right that it doesn't need to try to ride on NGE's coat-tails.
