King Amusement Creative announced on its official YouTube channel on Monday that CLAMP's Tokyo Babylon manga inspiring the Tokyo Babylon 2021 television anime next year. The studio GoHands is producing the anime.

Plot Summary:

It's 1991, the last days of Japan's bubble economy, and money and elegance run through the streets. So do the currents of darkness beneath them, nourishing evil spirits that only the arts of the onmyoji - Japan's legendary occultists - can combat. The two most powerful onmyoji are in the unlikely guises of a handsome young veterinarian, Seishiro, and the teenage heir to the ancient Sumeragi clan, Subaru.

Please tell me this will be followed up by a proper manga conclusion to CLAMP's famous X manga series. We had a conclusion in the anime series over a decade ago, but I want to see how the original manga artists and writers would have finished it.

Isn't GoHands' reputation pretty...spotty? Not sure I'm confident in them working on this .

But it'll be nice to see this adapted and getting more of the CLAMP Universe animated .

I thought Clamp married Madhouse after what Bee Train did to Tsubasa. Now then, Seishiro looks quite younger in the vid. Maybe if this sells well, we might have another X with some sort of true ending?

The Subaru from Tsubasa was also given a younger actor: Hiro Shimono (although almost every character from that series was given a new actor). Guess Yamaguchi is too old to portray him too.

I'd certainly like to think that if enough people are hooked onto Subaru's story in this TV series, we'll get a modern remake of CLAMP's X so those fans can see how Subaru's story continues (even though the TV series for X did an admirable job). But I'd be happy with a completed manga story for X first.

Yeah, the tv version did a nice job but they had some limitations in regards to the violence if you compare it to the manga or early movie. All the earthquakes and massive dissmembering of corpses had to be toned down in the tv series, with the end of the world only happening when Kamui's sword is broken rather than little by little. No idea what is the cause of Clamp originally cancelling the manga but their version of Subaru took a major change again but his allignment became neutral.

Y'know, with many of the remakes that are coming out (I assume this is a remake) and flopping miserably... I don't have much hope for this being successful, unfortunately.

How can this be a remake when the only animated adaptation is a OAV series barely watched by anyone unless they have 1. The curiosity to check out OAVs of that era. 2. Checked out Clamp works outside of their more known entries like Card Captor Sakura and Tsubasa Chronicles ?

Clamp is really weird with their anime adaptations. They had two endings of Cardcaptor Sakura and they completely ignored the ending the Tsubasa OVAs were going through (though that ending was Kingdom Hearts level of twists). Instead, the cast from Tsubasa made a cameo in Kobato after the ending of the manga. Similarly, xxxHolic had an OVA written to explain what happens to Domeki and Kohane as the manga focused more on Watanuki's future.

Even if it's obscure as hell, the fact that an anime, even an OAV, exists automatically classifies this as a remake. Sure, the obscurity of the original might mean that this does better.

A OAV that barely touched the meat of Tokyo Babylon story, and is, at best, a Ghost/Youkai of the week/OAV series.
