I would buy it myself, but it's still a bit on the pricey side at the minute

Starz has picked up an action project from former Spidey franchise director Sam Raimi and producer/writer Rob Tapert that’s based on the Japanese anime TV series NOIR, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The premium cable network is developing NOIR, a live-action U.S. remake of a 2001 show about two female assassins working in a criminal underworld. After discovering they’re mysteriously linked, the two have to work together on missions (under the moniker of “Noir”) until they figure out why and how they are connected—or until one of them kills the other.

Steve Lightfoot (Criminal Justice and House of Saddam) is the writer and executive producer.

Raimi and Tapert will executive produce the series as well. The duo also produce Spartacus for the network, in addition to having worked on films such as Drag Me to Hell and the Evil Dead franchise.

The move is the latest in Starz’ plan to develop compelling genre shows like the upcoming Camelot, a concept that AMC just proved can bring in big cable numbers with its powerful launch of The Walking Dead.

Looks to be shaping up to possibly be extremely good.

Noir has a unique style of story-telling as well as excellent soundtrack, it is also suitable for live-action

Even localizing the setting to suit the intended audience won't bother me that much. Like making Mireille an Italian or Irish American to relate her to the Mafia or the Irish mob, or something.

What I'm REALLY worried about is them deciding that viewers can't relate to an Asian lead and either have Mirelle as the lead...

or worse

Whitewash
Kirika-chan into some European called Katrina

Oh, and make her a completely un-cute 29 year old so no Conservative can throw bibles and scream "Asian Pedophiles."

other news about the "live action"?
For my part, I was happy and scared of this new fear of being disappointed and I think especially in their "live action" there will be no Chloe and Althena ...

Probably good news that it's stuck in dev hell... Wouldn't want to see the finished product.

I really need to rewatch this and all the other animes I bought voraciously when I was younger. NOIR still has the best anime soundtrack I've ever heard. The one OST has been in my car's CD changer for 9 years.

What was exactly censored? The original anime was pretty bloodless itself, and we are talking about anime before the School Days years.
