Someday in the Rain was aired as the 9th episode but is chronologically the latest episode in the series. Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu VI was aired as the 14th episode but is chronologically the 6th episode. The anime ended at Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu VI but the true ending (chronologically) is considered to be Someday in the Rain.

No.. just the last episode in *timeline* order is called "Someday in the Rain" (an anime-only story written by the author of the novels). It was aired as the 9th episode.
Each volume in the novel series is named "The XXXXXXXX of Suzumiya Haruhi" ... the first being "The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi". You might read through the sticky threads..... most of them have very complete descriptions of the structure of the anime and the novels. They also have a timeline ordered sequence of the series posted... its very interesting to watch the series in real chronological order (as stated by Haruhi in the preview end of each episode).

Given the "smash hit" popularity in Japan (as well as the leechers in other parts of the world ) ... I think we can say there's a good chance of more Haruhi. The first season really only covered Volume 1 of the novel series (plus some bits) and there are 8 novels out at the moment..... so lots of material.
However, the animation team KyoAni is already tapped to do the remake of Kanon this fall .... and I hear they may be doing some variation of Full Metal Panic so we may have to wait a couple of seasons for more Haruhi. I'd prefer that to them expanding their staff too quickly and losing grip on quality control.

Im glad that Kyoto Animation is busy working on other stuff now. They're one of the best (if not THE best) animation studios out there and its such great luck that Haruhi is under their hands. Since there're so much content and space for the anime Haruhi to expand upon I dont see the hurry, and I hope Kyoto Animation wont milk the franchise or anything (but based on past experience they're a quality group that has never done that yet unlike Sunrise.......)
It'll be nice to have a yearly Haruhi thing or a yearly Full Metal Panic thing . Some FMP and some haruhi every year or every other year~ |

Though, didn't "Lone Island Syndrome" part one at least cover () the broader cliche? (onsen, beach or pool episode) |

That's good... I just think thats the best way to watch it the first time... then watch it chronologically the second time to catch different details.

The novels always keep the romance tension in gear ... but any progress has been fairly glacial so far. Given the rather short time they've known each other, that might be expected though. I'd feel more comfortable if I knew this series had a planned number of novels so that I'd know I'm not being drawn into a "never-changing set of relationships" piece of annoyance.

Heck, storywise, I'm sure that there could be a reason for Mikuru to not graduate before Haruhi... if Haruhi allowed that to start with. |
