I would call this a improvement, others would call it going a step behind.

Japanese Scientists say Cute Pictures Increase Concentration

Quote:
BuzzFeed Cute. Emergency puppy. The Internet can be a dark and twisted place, but it also overflows with pictures of baby animals that elicit squees and d'awws out of the cheerful and grouchy alike. Turns out there's actually a good excuse for looking at cute pictures, too: they could improve focus.

Possibly the cutest-named scientific study of all time, "The Power of Kawaii," found that participants who performed a motor dexterity test before and after looking at pictures of baby animals were more accurate after the fact. The study also analyzed grades of cuteness--while the testees performed up to 40 percent better after viewing puppies and kittens, looking at pictures of grown dogs and cats only increased their performance by about 12 percent. And the test itself was cute, too; the dexterity test was actually the Japanese equivalent of Operation.

Unicorns’ Existence Proven, Says North Korea

Quote:
You can be forgiven for thinking that unicorns only exist in medieval fables and modern-day cartoons. North Korean scientists say you are wrong.

On Thursday, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the North Korea’s government mouthpiece, said scientists “reconfirmed” the location of the burial site of the unicorn ridden by King Dongmyeong, the founding father of the ancient Korean kingdom of Goguryeo (37 BC-668 AD).

Something odd and probably more crazy than silly:
Police: Hero instructor fought son in arrow attack
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories...12-01-21-53-40
Quote:
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) -- A Wyoming community college instructor killed in a grisly classroom murder-suicide was hailed as a hero Saturday, with police saying he gave his students time to flee by distracting and fighting off his son after the younger man barged into his computer science class and shot him in the head with a high-powered bow and arrow.

That doesn't help their case anymore than a European inspired Unicorn with just a horn growing out a horse's head.

Quote:
As Iraq buys up foreign arms and aircraft one man in a province northeast of Baghdad has taken an alternative approach to the billion dollar deals.
The Associated Press reports Hatim Kadim Salman is building the first Iraqi handmade helicopter to patrol the country's borders and he's doing it for just $24,000.
Salman is from Muqdadiyah, about 60 miles from Baghdad and the backyard helo effort is taking place in hat Foreign Policy and Army officials have called the "Nastiest town in Iraq".

Looks like something out of that weird flying contest they have in San Francisco every year. Or those old (1900-1920s) weird flying machines we use to see for laughs growing up.
