That's exactly what I was thinking! She was so bright, cheerful, and full of life! Her skin was fricking shining! And now she's just so unhealthy, sad, and lonely. I'm guessing something happened during her school years, maybe around late elementary school, maybe she was bullied. A person doesn't spontaneously, out of nowhere, for no reason develop such a horrible level of social anxiety -.-

In all seriousness, animesuki does help ease the loneliness. It's nice to be part of a community and speak to people from all around the world about your interests.

Partially from personal experience, I could see that not ending well (the very first job I had after graduating lasted only 6 hours, because I got bored of how monotonous it was).
I loved this scene. It's almost the complete opposite of my experiences. My anxiety always makes me fear the absolute worst when I'm about to start a new job, and I end up pleasantly surprised most of the time as a result. Tomoko, on the other hand, always has delusions that can only end with her sorely disappointed, since there is no way reality can match them. Sometimes I feel like she's living on another planet. She desperately needs to set more realistic goals for herself.

A commenter on my blog mentioned that in the manga,
Spoiler for Original "Spice of Life" scene:

It occurs to me that the people Tomoko seems most comfortable around are young boys. Tomoki before puberty (she was too, of course), the love hotel boys, the boys playing "Magic" at the candy store. Maybe Tomoko is kind of a little boy herself - she's a bit of a tomboy, anyway. She collected bugs, she played trading card games... Maybe part of the problem is that before she became a teenager it was acceptable for her to be a tomboy and do boyish things, but once she hit her teens that became socially unacceptable, and she became uncomfortable in her own skin.

Oh man I wish they included that in to really really show how much help she actually needs, but I can see why they left it out.
Man I wonder how the manga is going to end, it'll be intense if it happens that way, but doubtful, it'll probably be open ended.

The ending scene was SERIOUSLY CUTE. >_<

Kinda shocking for this show.

And I liked seeing her play with that pink popping thing. Dunno what to call them...but I also played with one.

It's called rubber/eye popper. Yeah, I also played with that in the 90s.

I love how Tomoko becomes way hotter than she actually is when she's fantasizing about something. Makes you wonder how she's *supposed* to look.

Those are drugs. Those are more addictive than stress balls or popping packaging bubbles.
You just can't let go of one once you start playing with it.

The scene of her looking up at the stars and beginning her evolution into crazy cat lady (which is where I'll probably end up going) was really touching. Despite the humor and emotional slapstick, the nice moments are really nice.

One thing I can say for myself is that the internet - as weird as it may sound - was a big part of me getting out of my shell. I used to live in a very small town and study at a small university back then so I didn't have much chance to bond with people with similar interests to mine. Then I started writing fanfiction and short stories as a way to let off emotional steam. It worked because most of the fanfiction community is female, so I got the chance to interact -even if only online - with lots of girls my age who found interesting what I had to say, and I got to understand better how they felt/thought. That helped me break the shell of absolute fear I felt when interacting with girls since then. After that, I even met in real life two of the people I knew on that website (and managed to completely screw up one such meeting because I can still be awkward as hell now and then ), and it still took me three years to actually end up having a girlfriend - who, surprisingly, was and still is my old high school classmate sitting next to me, the silent, shy one whom I had almost not exchanged a word with in five years and that I got a chance to bond with again years ago. And to this day, I tend to develop stronger friendships with women rather than with other men (I'm 27, so I won't say "boys" or "girls", sounds silly).

I also know a guy from another anime forum who actually has a girlfriend he met there. And people from a Facebook group who actually married. So to anyone who says internet interactions are not "real" I'd say they need to get up with the times. Surely one can't only socially interact through the internet, but it's still better than nothing.

Lol, and it's really startling when you set one to pop, forget, and then it POPS up if you're right next to it.
