I just don't understand this obssession with getting more out of franchises that have been long over and really don't need another addition.

Profit, good sir, profit. Why else would they reboot the same comic book storyline multiple times a decade or draw on some archaic fairy tail (and add MACHINE GUNS!) or make a generic action movie (and add MACHINE GUNS!)?

Because its far easier than making your own idea and actually drawing it out and developing it, if the above examples make the same amount of money.

Indeed money is the driving force, but there are so many book and popular series out there waiting to be put to film that'd probably be viable money makers. And heck if this is such a tried tactic why do so manys tudios wait so long before they put their "plans" into action. Its like we've gotten to a point where if on some off chance we run out of ideas of what to make next or what to adapt next we just go, "hey, lets take some movie/film series from 20 years ago and make a sequel or remake."

The horror genre has become almost nothing but remakes. The film industry is getting oversaturated with this crap. Not saying these films are all bad, but it'd be nice to see some variety again. Considering how far film has come as a medium there is so much potential with what could be adapted now, its just very dissapointing to have to see a constant onslaught of rehashed ideas and franchises.

Doesn't help that people keep on eating it up, in turn giving these film heads the money they expected, thus giving them the confidence to keep regurgitating such lazy crap.

Technically, dinosaurs came first, then came the paraves (or "eumaniraptora", a branch of dinosaurs that eventually gave birth - parallely - to Velociraptor/Deinonychus/Utahraptor [AKA Dromaeosaurids], Troodon and Archaeopteryx [considered the first bird]) and further down the line, after the Cretaceous extinction event, birds (probably the descendants of small paraves that managed to find refuge in a desolate world, while the bigger animals died out and provided temporary food for the smaller fauna) showed up to fill the vacuum.

The oldest feathered dinosaur ever dug up, the Epidexipteryx, appeared somewhere between the early Jurassic and Upper Jurassic. Dinosaurs rose during the Triassic.


Wonder if in JP4 they will finally fix the Velociraptor's appearance (paleontologists only discovered it was a feathered dino two-three years after the first movie was released, so it's a honest mistake on Spielberg/Crichton's part - Joe Johnston tried to partially rectify this in JP3 with the alpha female's appearance, but he couldn't exactly completely revamp the raptor's now iconic look without confusing the audience) or if they'll replace it with the Utahraptor, whose size is actually much closer to what the movie franchise decided on (velociraptor mongoliensis, in real life, was significantly smaller - roughly the size of a duck/swan, instead of being as tall as a human being).

No. At least the mistake in the movie is not Spielberg’s fault. It’s the fault of their paleontologist-advisor, Jack Horner, for not noticing that the raptors in the original movie are too big during post-production. Though I’m not gonna blame any of them for the whole “feathered Raptor” issue since it’s just them being unfortunate that the “feather” discovery didn’t come earlier.

I was actually more annoyed by the new mistakes they made in JP2 & JP3. In JP2 the Apatosaurus’ neck (or is it Diplodocus’ neck?) can bent like swan’s and the Pteranodon can stand on a branch with only two feet like vultures! In JP3, most of the mistakes has been corrected (Raptors notwithstanding, but at least they tried), but for some unknown reasons, they add sharp teeth to the adult Pteranodons! I mean, Pteranodon shouldn’t have any teeth. Heck, their name means “toothless wing”! Why would they deliberately made a scientific mistake that even JP2 did it right?

I agree though that they should replace the Velos with Utahs in the next movie (assuming they still want Raptors to star in it). It'll be funny if they just decide to shrink Velo's size into half-human size considering that they're portrayed as bigger-than-human in all three movies .

Wasn't the raptor mistake because back during the first book's creation, the creature's name at the time had been velociraptor, but changed down the road? That's what I heard, at least.

That's why they hired Paleontologist like Jack Horner to specifically correct all the scientific mistakes in the novel regarding dinosaurs so they can fix it in the JP movie. Alas, the mistakes are still there (even counting out the "feather" issue).
