I am really looking forward to every episode of this series. It's like a rip of the full chested damsel in distress theme and is the complete opposite of a warm fuzzy anime like Aishiteruze Baby. I can't get enough of the violence and tragedies this show has to offer. |

I have the chance to watch episode one from beginning to end and let me say my thoughts.
First, when I read a couple of days ago your opinions regarding the gore I really felt goosebumps surging through my arms. NO KIDDING!! And thought to myself that this anime possess the gory qualities of some of best Hollywood horror flicks. I couldn't help myself but downloading the episode, in spite that I was beginning to feel dizzy and uncomfortable thinking about the so talked gore scene of episode one. Finally, the download finished, and I knew there was no going back once I started the Media Player. To my surprise (and relief) the gore scenes did not had effect on me at all. It was so pleasant and exquisite watching how richly detailed the gore and the slaughters were portrayed. They ranged all the way from severely gross to brutal, but in no way animalistic, cannibalistic, or devilish. Maybe because Lucy only blew the guards or she tore them to pieces without actually dismembered them from the inside to the outside or exposing their entrails and tearing them apart. Except for the part that she approached to that wimpy security guard who tried his best clinging for life, and yet Lucy took her time in actually dismembering him. However, that scene was censored; only they made a close up shot of Lucy's head, but I could clearly heard the nasty sound of a body tearing. Whoaah!! She went all rampage, killing everyone that got in her way while taking time walking in the nude. Sorry for the clumsy, cute girl that got the 360 degree neck twist followed by a head tearing but that ought to taught her a lesson for happening at the wrong place, at the wrong time. On the other hand, Nyu just looks like a Chi clone; has the ears and says 'Nyu'; so kawaii yet such a killer double-personality. What I like most about Lucy was the way how the crew colored and shadow-toned her red, blank eyes. Beautifully done in terms of character art design. Specially how they keep her hair loosely hanging around one zombie eye while concealing the other with the hair. From what I observed in the preview for episode two, though. Some important points that I want to emphasize about episode one: Spoiler:
Anyways, Elfen Lied has captivated me, and I'm resolved to watch it all the way to the end. |

Does this air on Japanese TV?
If so then why didn't it get cut like GANTZ did? They same stuff that was in episode 1 (decapatations & nudity) where cut from GANTZ. Maybe the Gantz people wanted to sell more DVD's? |

Actually since right now it's on AT-X, a pay per view channel, they can have more blood and nudity than usual. Once they move it to regular stations, A LOT of mist is going to show up (to cover up the nudity), and a lot of blood is going to be gone. A good example is R.O.D. the TV, when they played on AT-X before, there was this epsiode with nudity. When they moved to Fuji-tv after, volia, mist. |

The subbed ep 1 is on ATX and if that was cut, then I would love to see the uncut, there was more blood and tits in that ep that I have seen in all the basic anime put together since Berserk :P
...well maybe not that much, but I dont think it was cut. *Cant wait for ep2* |

How far has the manga been translated? By all this talk, it seems like it's really far, or you guys can read the raws.
Anyway, Elfen Lied... boy... Like many of you, I thought this was going to be another bishoujo anime, the perfect summer anime. And the scant pics at the official website never told me otherwise. Then a friend who read the manga told me it was gory as hell, but I couldn't believe, so I watched episode 1 RAW... damn, that was I think one of the goriest anime I have ever witnessed. But while the gore turned me off, the story... oh, the story. I'll really just watching to see how Nyuu develops, she's so loveable, then boom, she's Lucy, and she kills everyone. Spoiler:
I agree with a lot of the Konomini comparisons, but Lucy >> Dark Hikari. I was also surprised to see that the OP art was modelled after some classic painting.
