It seems like someone in the production team messed up and that's why ep 6 is delayed. He sounded pretty mad.

This is NOT suppose to happen. 13 ep series are not suppose to use fillers. So it seems there was critical failure somewhere that is letting the rest of the team down. Running an anime studio requires a tight ship. And as I say, it appears to be the fault of one unnamed individual.
Ah, crap. inside probelm.....I hope this end well and not affect the overall quality of anime. The guy who messed up must be responsible for something important....

It appears that that particular poster is actually a reference to Black Knight Story, a manga by Motofumi Kobaya (Apocalypse Meow) featuring the story of a StuG III commander on the Eastern Front.

My bad, and thank you for refreshing my memory. I should have remembered, I have the damn manga.

I don't know if any of his works are translated into English, but his stuff is pretty gritty.

Is there any mention of what variant Shermans Saunders is using? That info is still not on the official website yet. They look like M4A3E8 or E9s in episode 4.

That's shockingly inept for what has been a very well put together production. I hope it's just the one-off thing, and not an indication of quality issues down the line.

Well, the command tank for them appears to be an M4A1(76)W, with the rest being M4A3E9's. M4A3E2's are also seen at the Saunder's School this ep, and Miho mentions Fireflies at one point.

I really don't think thats going to be fun...

There is sort of a huge technology gap...

Edit: Now, if they want to be brave. Make a Call of Duty game centered on the Germans.

A slight correction about the delays: The final episode is not running into production problems. It's probably not even in production yet. What's happening is that ep6 is not airing next week because of a current production delay, and so they have to broadcast ep5.5 instead, which sounds like a recap special. But because of this one week delay, the final episode will eventually not be able to air on the time slot, since all broadcast schedules are tightly fixed. They will have to air it on some other slot instead. Details will be announced after ep11 airs, since they have no idea where it could air right now.

This is a a 12 episode series btw, not 13.

Edit: Another correction to note is that the tweet being linked likely has nothing to do with GuP at all. It is probably about the production problems Joshiraku ran into towards the end of its run. That tweet was made in early September.

Everyone knows that the final episode is not in trouble because it hasn't being made yet. It is the studio falling behind in schedule over all.

I am not sure your clarification is even necessary.

Well, unlike in the battle with St. Gloriana, the objective isn't to kill every single tank, but to kill the side's flag holder (this is apparently the standard victory condition for tournaments). If they can survive long enough to find the flag holder and kill it, Oarai wins no matter how many Shermans survive. This makes even lightly-armed scouts useful in tournament matches.

And have some new and improved uniforms:

there will be a time limit or not? then yes I know that it must draw on the tanks to damage enough to make out a white flag
and yes they come you just do not get shot short avoid leaving their flags ... In any case, I look forward to the tournament begins

Tank Information

Note that this information is not from the official website, so there may be discrepancies with what's on the show.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Saunders Tanks

Medium Tank M4A176(W) (aka Sherman) (1)

Weight: 32.3 tons
Height: 2.97m
Crew: 5
Top road speed: 42km/h
Cross-country speed: unspecified
Main gun: 76mm 52 calibers
Maximum turret armor: 89mm
Maximum hull armor: 64mm sloped 35° from vertical (2)
Extras: HVAP ammunition, vertical gun stabilization (3).

Pros: Good speed, ergonomics and armor. Powerful gun.
Cons: No major applicable ones. It's a bit tall.
Ideal role: All roles except for heavy support.

Summary: The Sherman is the workhorse for all Western Allied armies. They could do it all but with one marked weakness - the original 75mm-gunned versions had weaker guns and armor than many German tanks. The 76mm upgun made a real difference as it is about equivalent to the 75mm L43 on the StuG III. With HVAP ammunition, it has roughtly the same penetration as the 75mm L70 on the Panther.
Sexiness factor: M4s are boring, but 76mm versions are a bit spicier. It'd be sexier with a non-flat green camo paint job.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Sherman M4A3E8 (or M4A3E9) - technically M4A3(76)W HVSS

Weight: 33.7 tons
Height: 2.97m
Crew: 5
Top road speed: 42km/h
Cross-country speed: unspecified
Main gun: 76mm 52 calibers
Maximum armor: 89mm - turret
Maximum armor: 64mm sloped 35° from vertical
Extras: HVAP ammunition, vertical gun stabilization.

Pros: Good speed, ergonomics and armor. Powerful gun.
Cons: No major applicable ones. It's a bit tall.
Ideal role: All roles except for heavy support.

Summary: This is why Shermans (and American tanks in general) are so boring. This version has a different manufacturing process, slightly different armor layout, and a different suspension from the M4A1(76)W, but it's essentially the same tank.
Sexiness factor: Same.

----------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------

Notes:
(1) Example #1 of why American names are bad. During World War II, most U.S. Army gear used very similar designation: a descriptor, followed by a "M", followed by a number. Here's some examples:

Rifle, Caliber .30, M1
Carbine, Caliber .30, M1
Submachine Gun, Cal. .45, M1
76mm gun M1
Submachine Gun, Cal. .45, M3
Light Tank M3
Medium Tank M3
Medium Tank M4

The British took one look at this and thought it was confusing and daft, so they added names. The light M3 was named "Stuart", the medium M3 was named "Lee" (and "Grant"), and the medium M4 was given the name "Sherman".

(2) The front hull with 64mm armor is also noteworthy because it's our first example of sloped armor. The idea for sloped armor to to align it at an angle away from the vertical. This increases the effective thickness of the armor (armor line of sight), and gives the M4 about 78mm of protection. From the front, it's as tough as a Matilda II.

(3) Gun stabilization is a bunch of gyros that keep the gun oriented on a target even when your tank is moving. Modern tanks have only a small accuracy loss compared to being still. In World War II, very few AFVs had any kind of stabilization so the gun could only be laid while perfectly still, and that it had to be re-laid if the vehicle moves.

The M4 is a bit different in that it has stabilization on the vertical plane. Unfortunately, that doesn't apply to the horizontal, so the gun had to be re-laid after moving just like most other vehicles. The British ended up disabling theirs.

In general, the Sherman is a good tank that has worse press than it should. The upgunned versions were effective right to the end of the war and beyond. The 76mm gun is deadly at all ranges against all of Ooarai's AFVs while only the 75mm guns can penetrate their fronts. 37mm guns have a chance of penetrating the sides, but only from close range. The Type 89's 57mm gun is going to be as useless as usual . Ooarai is in for a tough fight unless they employ good tactics - but that's true of all tank battles.

Good info there.

You should also list the Sherman Firefly, since not only is it mentioned by name, but it really does appear in the show.

I don't even know why the 89 even made it into the show. Its a piss-poor tank with its only innovation being one of the first armored vehicles equipped with a diesel engine, and not much else.

If for a Yay! Japan moment, the 89 does a poor job in perpetuating it. Throw them a friggin Type 3 or something... at least that made production.

The only possible use I see for the 89 at the moment would be akin to what the T-34s did during Kursk against Tigers & Panthers...

RAMMING SPEED!!!

Well, the current flag battle rules does make the role of a scout tank valuable. Even if the Type 89 doesn't fire its gun, as long as it can spot the enemy (or more preferably the flag) it'll still be an asset. Sure it wasn't used in such a manner in the episode, but it could still happen. If it was under the previous Annihilation rules though then yes, the 89 is totally useless.

Dood, that thing is less than half the weight of the Sherman, yet it has a top speed of 26 Km/h... its not very useful even as a scout.

Its bait material man, I am tellin' ya.

Which front exactly? If it's the Chinese war, there'd be almost no tanks, and if it's the Pacific island-hopping campaigns, it'd be mostly navigating thru jungle roads and having Japanese soldiers try to stick C4 on your vehicle.

Second largest front can only be China. But I highly doubt it will have much of an international audience. Unless a brave Chinese software developer is willing to get into it for China's domestic audience.

OTOH, the jungles were already covered in Call of Duty: World at War, Battlefield 1942, as well as an earlier RTS title known as Blitzkreig.
