Reminder
This thread is for the discussion of Nymphet (Kodomo no Jikan). Time and time again the thread seems to get derailed and discussion wanders all over the place discussing the terms "loli" and "pedophile" along with comparisons with other anime series (which then lead to discussions of said series). Can we please keep the thread on topic! Any further posts which are deemed to be off-topic will be deleted and Infractions issues against the poster (even if the post contains some token on-topic discussion). |

A question to get back on topic: who's your favorite character, and more importantly, *why*?
She can be evil, but I prefer Kuro. Kuro (I keep wanting to call her "Kuroppin!" ) loves Rin, but keeps her feelings hidden for the most part. She proves to be a great friend by always trying her best to protect Rin, even if it hurts herself (especially when she ran through the halls in her underwear)... And yeah, she does evil things to Aoki, but it's all out of her love for her best friend. In the end I like her because, even though her emotions get the best of her, she's a very strong and loyal character... (and uber-sensitive as well). |

@xris
*feels the barbed arrows from the post dig into my skin and pierce both my gut and lungs* Sorry about that... moving along now *sheepishly faces the corner and pulls out arrows one by one* @Risaa (nice save ) I would be lying if I said I don't root for the main character: Rin. Her current precociousness just screams "past tragedy involving a father-figure." That, and she's extremely cute. edit: eek... wrong name @_@ Last edited by bleakessence; 2007-07-02 at 03:54. I would hope that some of Rin's underlying trauma had been coped within the space of two more years. Aoki has until Rin leaves for middle school to help Rin figure out a better way of coping with life. I'm guessing that's the closing point for the manga: the girls graduating into middle school.
The strong friendship bonds are interesting to watch with this "little girl mafia gang" ... like a micro-version of the Sopranos I guess. Yeah, its an over-statement but those bonds are more important to them than anything else (and outsiders beware ). Kuro's an interesting character to watch .... you almost want to ask if those cat ears are organically attached I don't really have a "favorite character" in this story because it is too much of an ensemble affair to me. None of the characters mean as much to me standing on their own.

I, myself, prefer Rin, mainly because she's the most amusing (and also the cutest imo^^) of all those girls and is actually the one who's the least naive and who manage to fool her friend into thinking a lot of things that Aoki may or may not be^^

Oh, it is definitely jealousy showing. Being jealous is a big part of showing your love, especially for little kids.
And, er.. Aoki's not... oh, nevermind. Quote:
I find Rin to be very cute *physically*, but to me, 90% of cuteness points comes from personality too... so Kuro takes the cake for me. She got an additional +8 points for her neko-mimi, as well (+4 for each ear). I agree that Rin's the most "amusing" though... |

Well, I am glad that KNJ thread is back on topic, hate to say it guys and galls, but this was becoming more of a social commentary on how ppl are looking at the books, rather than a discussion of the actual material.
Havening said that, I am really looking forward to reading chapter 27, I think that's the farthest that I have seen Rin go! *wonders how she got the guts* I want to read the leadup and followup pages to the posting. I know that the SaHa scanlations are looked at as being to quick for quality, but I still get to read it and understand it, so chap 27 is on my want to read! Also, my favorite char in KNJ would have to be Usa because she tends to get the wrong idea about things both Rin and Kuro say, mostly because she is a tad more normal for her age and doesn't know about the "adult" things they do... Usa made me laugh when she was using a mirror to try and find this "penis" that all girls have *giggles softly* Kuro may not know it, but I think she is giveing Usa nightmares! |

Hm... now that you mention it, I AM pretty curious as to how the anime will chug along compared to the manga version. Will it be faithful to the events unfolding in the manga or turn towards a new story arc? Can the voice actors/seiyuu do a good job in bringing out the distinct spark and wit distinct to KnJ's characters? Will the anime follow the kinky naughtiness of KnJ or will the kinkiness be toned down a notch?
Will Aoki ever get laid? I just hope the ending/finale for the anime isn't going to be a major disappointment, like so many anime that are based off unfinished manga out there. |

I'm very interested in how the anime will *avoid* being a plot trainwreck of some kind.... having trouble thinking of a good stopping point in the existing manga ... there's a few possibilities I suppose.

When I wrote this^, I was thinking about X, the anime based off of the manga by CLAMP. The gore was toned down in the anime, but it was still good, IMO. To this day, the manga remains unfinished, but the anime had a satisfactory non-open ending. As for Aoki... if he ever *does* get laid, it will be after the series is long over. I think. Well, perhaps never. |

I'm not really wondering where it would stop in the existing manga story... I'm wondering what it will do when it surpasses it. Most of the chapters have spent as much time establishing the theme as relating the plot, so twelve episodes actually seems pretty long compared to what they have to work with.
Quote:
The least realistic part of this story is that Houin pays any attention to Aoki. Women her age don't pay attention to nice guys their own age. (After several more years of bad relationships and increasing volume of the biological clock... sometimes.) It's a nice fantasy, though. |

Err... please don't mind my obsession with the ending. I've been downloading my fair share of anime (to a total of around 100gigs in 5 months) and I've got to say that most anime that were based off incomplete manga had *really* flat, rushed and/or bad endings. Not bad enough to give me nightmares, but bad enough to leave me hanging with either a question mark or a sweat-drop floating above my head. Quote:

The "bad/flat/rushed/open" ending for anime of incomplete manga seems endemic to the the industry. Its kind of sad when "mere" high schoolers can often write circles around "professional screenwriters" in anime.

Heres a Q&A that ws done with 7S during AX:
"Q: In light of the recent Nymphet controversy are there any criteria for obtaining licenses in the future? A: No child porn (laughs). Nymphet crossed the line of no return in future volumes so the company decided to drop the title. Though crossing the line is subjective, Seven Seas did definitely feel it did cross it. " There STILL at it, misrepresenting the series. They also have "Dance oof the vampire bundi", which is far more suggestive at parts and features character that is around 11 or 12.. Hope that this doesn't scare anyone else about liscensing it. |

"Child porn?"
*sigh* Let SSE be. They're just making excuses that the retailers got scared of KnJ and dropped their orders. If, during the interview about dropping KnJ due to 'crossing the line' SSE cited page 2 of chapters 13 and 17, then those remarks would have had some degree of merit (at least for me). But SSE didn't. They went for some scene that was much more trivial and less suggestive to point their fingers at. So I still believe SSE's just making excuses for poor potential for revenue, since the general American public won't easily accept KnJ. Well... at least there's NLB and SaHa |
