I'm not too worried about changes to the content. KyoAni only does loose adaptations with material they acquire directly through their LN contest. When they're contracted by a production committee to adapt a property, they stay faithful to the source material, for good or ill. They may make Nishimiya look like a moe blob, but I'd be surprised if she starts going, "Ugu."

I don't know what you guys are talking about. This is emotionally manipulative schlock that's right in KyoAni's wheel house, homogenized designs or not. It might deal with slightly more mature themes than we are used to seeing from them, but the manga isn't high art, so chill out.

Kyoani x okada. Not sure how I feel about this.
On one hand we have a bit of a studio mismatch but on the other hand we have a writer who is generally good at character dramas when shes not dwelling in excess (and not doing sci fi...) Regardless, the baggage that will be caused is ricidoulsy high for this adaptation. |

Assuming this is true, I am pretty okay about it. Okada is better working with adaptation, and Koe no Katachi is in her comfort zone.

Based on her work with Hourou Musuko and adaptations generally, I think this should be OK. Hourou Musuko is certainly better, but I think there are some definitely tonal similarities and I think this is an area Okada is pretty comfortable in.
I'm still a biz puzzled they decided to make this a film. It would have been perfect for a one-cour series.
