Apparently it's Furuhashi directing, as expected, and... Mari Okada writing it. Not too sure on this. She seems to be very hit or miss, or at least that's how I see her work. Some stuff is great, others are downright forgettable.
That said though, come on, why Kyoto arc. We've all seen it by now and it was actually very well done in the original anime. Don't quite see the point of remaking it, even more so when they'll be limited by two OVA episodes. Sorta disappointed. I hope they're just testing the waters with it, since Kyoto is arguably the most loved arc in the RK manga. If it does well, they'll consider future OVAs or even a TV series. One can hope. EDIT: According to this, it'll be on theaters?. So I guess it's DEEN going the Kara no Kyoukai/Towa no Quon route with it?

Well most importantly is that most of the entire cast will be back (Suzukaze Mayo yay), and it's still Furuhashi directing and Asakura composing.
That said... Okada Mari? Really? I'm not exactly a fan of her more action oriented works... Not exactly the Jinchuu arc we've always wanted to finally see the light of day, and compressing the Kyoto arc into two episodes feels really freaking cramped.

Laaaaaame.
Anime Kyoto was just about as perfect an anime adaptation as it gets. This is just utterly pointless. ESPECIALLY an inevitable rushjob like it'll obviously be if they seriously plan to cram the entirety of freaking Kyoto into two OVA episodes. This is beyond retarded. Even on the off chance that they're considering animating Jinchu based on the reception and success of this Kyoto remake, it's obvious said reception is gonna be a sucky one when the very concept is so painfully dumb and devoid of any real and sensible purpose. Btw, I totally called Ken Narita as Saito earlier in this topic. Too bad that's about as microscopic a consolation as it gets given the main news... |
