Cast
http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/594/1594871/ So Yokan won't be voiced by Toriumi after all...too bad. Moldeen by Takaya Hashi is pretty good choice I think. |

First episode....
I'm not going to lie, this was a confusing and strange start for me. Felt like too much happened at once including the characters' introduction. The main guys (Gayus and Gigina) are strange....hopefully the series will show more about their past or at least make me care about them. The action feels underwhelming and story isn't appealing to me at the moment. I hope it will be good but the first episode felt messy. At least the weapons looks kinda cool and premise has my interest still.

Yep, this was rushed as hell. It felt like they were just summarizing traits of characters rather than officialy introducing them. Oh look, there's one scene where Gaius and Gigina are mean to each other, but there's another one where we see they trust each other. Point made. Let's move on.
Something like this. Quote:

When anime was announced for the first time, someone at 2ch said that Sareryu is one of the hardest LNs to animate and I couldn't agree more. This's one of the fictions that works only on paper. Science-oriented abilities that are prominent in the novel are completely abandoned here, because there's no narrator to explain them to us, nor there is time to describe them in such a detail. Shock value in the form of erogore is absent because...obviously. And from what I know only two volumes will be animated so there's no point to introduce any plot-related devices. I can't say I'm surprised that this episode felt medicore to me, but at the same time I was expecting some great visuals and animation. They are meh. Some other notes/complaints: - Gaius and Gigina have too nice relationship - Moldeen's voice doesn't fit him (a bit too deep imo) - Jiv looks REALLY old or is it just me? - Yokan is cute - dragons look pretty generic, they don't stand out among other fantasy anime (I know it's pretty standard design for dragons, but come on) - opening and ending are pretty average visually, but I like music - as for ending Spoiler:

This is Chunibyuu as Hell...the issue are normal events, pretend to be something, why not give us pure action instead, that was at least decent, what a least a fun first chapter with te dragon battles but the rest just drag out. this so generic not stand up..

Nonsensical techbabble aside the first episode was okay? Felt like it was trying do too much and nothing quote grabbed me, but there wasn't anything seriously outputting to immediately make me drop it. Could go eitherway, so I think it's a decent candidate for the 3-episode rule.

I started this show earlier this week. IMO, every successful season must have at least one mindless adventure show (preferably a fantasy) starring good looking guys. This qualifies. Maybe. I haven't fully decided yet. Which is not a good sign.
