Intense episode. So Kayneth did survive. Caster is very twisted and delusional. Kiritsugu does know some magic, but it sure took a toll on his body. That would explain later on in F/SN. Don't know how Saber can fight with a curse placed by Lancer's lance.

Well the timing of this episode could not possibly have been better in helping me to get back into this story and characters. Finally we get an episode again that's solidly paced with not too much talking and jargon, but also not too much action, it just plain uses it's time and characters well and is fairly straight forward at that.

Everyone seemingly important to the story at this juncture gets a little bit of screen time this episode from Waver/Rider and their usual amusing antics, to Archibald in his reappearance and sudden attack on Kiritsgu, to Saber and her odd relationship with Caster, to most important and of absolute critical importance....Kiritsgu and Irisveil. That one scene where he's talking with her and letting it all out has done more for his character than the last 6 episodes combined 5 times over. That sort of scene is really honest to god all I've been asking for and it could not have come at a better time. Now his character is relatable and understandable to me just like that in 2 minutes. It's just that easy.

Not much at all to criticize this time around and believe it or not I'm actually pretty happy for it. If these type of episodes keep up going forward than I'll be more than happy to follow this show into it's second half in a few months time.

Another person with time-manipulating ability? Heh.

By the way, giving 7/10 on this episode, pretty decent in my opinion.

Thoughts on the episode:

This this put to rest any doubt that Kiritsugu loves Irisviel. That moment on the balcony was so touching and foreboding.

Kirei has Kiritsugu absolutely shook, it was a little jarring to see that sort of fear from someone who's been so calm up till now. Though I think a lot of that fear is not what would happen to himself, but to Iri who's in more danger than anyone else in this tournament.

Since Iri and Maiya are going to be temporarily alone, it'll be interesting to see if there's anything to the possible love triangle relationship based on Maiya's kiss.

I wonder what will be the breaking point for Saber to outright refuse Kiritsugu's orders. I have a feeling he's really going to need all those command seals.

Kiritsugu looked a little vulnerable at the end there against Kayneth, but that smirk at the end taking out his pistol was a nice reversal. It'll be interesting to see what trick he's got to put Kayneth away for good this time.

At least it's not what you'd normally think of when it comes to a time manipulation power because he's only effecting time inside his own body. So he makes it run even faster or slows it down. Kayneth realized what he was doing after one glance which shows how good Kayneth is at least at recognizing magecraft.

The Time Alter stuff is pretty badass...

Liked when Lancer showed up to help.
Is one of the requirements for being Lancer class, is to be a totally awesome bro.?

I noticed that Sabre despite being popular with the fanbase, her role is small in this one. Obviously the focus is on the masters and their fight this time, but Sabre is more like a 'cameo' or furniture to lead things along. She doesn't really have any control of power on what's happening in the story.

Good episode, nice mix of plot and action. I'm glad that they're bringing in more of Kiritsugu's inner thoughts since it would also ruin his character if they did a lot of internal dialogue. There's really not much room in this series for all of that, lest we get a ton of it each episode since the point of view changes so much. Perhaps his characterization is too subtle for some, but I find it believeable.

I kinda just have to laugh at the censoring...especially since this is being played around, what, midnight in Japan? Shouldn't that give them more leniency with the gore? I can kinda see why exploding bodies and whatnot might not be that great, but this is pretty clean, blood wise, when Caster is doing some pretty depraved things to those children. Ah well. It's more funny than anything else.

Oh, the Rider and Waver scene...we've been laughing about this all day. You go kill someone, I will buy you pants and let you go outside. Deal!

When Kiritsugu showed his fears and wanting to run away I found out what happened in Fate/Kalied Prima Illya past. Piecing together the clues.

A revelation that Fate/Kaleid isn't as nice as what it seemed. He made the other choice. For his family.

It's too boost Blu-ray sales. Except instead of using boobs, it's gore

Anyways, it's great to see the mages themselves in action, and it doesn't disappoint. I was afraid Kayneth was going to be all talk but it he's actually quite deadly. The magic in F/SN was pretty pathetic (Rin was extremely disappointing) so it's good to see just how powerful the mages can be.

I'm slightly annoyed that Saber seems to be a somewhat of a damsel in distress, having to be saved for the 4th time already...

That emotional scene with Kiristugu and Irisviel kinda felt a bit sudden and out of nowhere and I was kinda annoyed at what was obvious censoring but otherwise it was another great episode. Major cracks are already appearing between Kiritsugu and Saber, but I'm surprised Irisviel didn't speak up for her or even just try to console her like she did at the begginning. Kiritsugu fighting Kayneth was pretty damn cool and the music is really getting great now. The bit when the trailer music plays as Saber fought those monsters was particularly memorable. About the Irisviel and Kiritsugu moment, and found it telling when Irisviel hesitated when she said "Maiya". A possible issue later on perhaps?

Oh yeah, and the whole Pants and Rider moment was pretty funny.

Also did anyone else get LancerxSaber vibes?

Oh yeah it seems Keyneth El Melloi was scared shitless at what Kiritsugu did.

Notice the guy who touched the mercury ball repeating he better get out of there. That's likely Melloi making contact and then taking control.

WTF starfish isn't at all how I imagined the monsters as ;_;

Nice scenes otherwise.

They did butcher all the emotion in that scene between Kiritsugu and Emiya imo (oh and the edgy censoring) but the rest of the episode makes up for it.

somebody mentioned before that Saber kept being saved, it happened again... but Lancer is really suitable as he seems like the type that would save any girl, now what will they do if they know their masters are fighting each other?

surprise at what Kiristugu said about running away, i thought he is a tough guy... btw he seems to avoid talking directly to Saber

Whew, finally caught up!

I've got to say off the bat that I find this series far more interesting than either the FSN or UBW anime. It's like there's more focus on all the ensemble cast this time, more of the servants and the masters shown. The war for the grail feels like a big event, not just some isolated, low-key contest in a small town, but spread more worldwide with many agents acting in it, instead of just a bunch of kids from the same city. The Fate world feels more opened up, it breathes more, is what I'm trying to say.

Anyway, really excited by the episodes so far. Although that little kiss between Maiya and Emiya confused me. Cheating on Iri? Not cool.

Seeing Berserker fight equally with Gilgamesh in ep. 5 made me happy. Still not sure why he's so popular, but at least he's not grinning like a hyena and spouting off rape metaphors this time. Why does he think he's so great anyway? The total territory Gilgamesh ruled was microscopic compared to, say, Alexander's empire (I mean it was just one city), so you'd think he wouldn't be so arrogant in light of that. I also guess the Gilgamesh of this franchise never met Enkidu (maybe?), since he seems more concerned with subjugating the world than performing great deeds so his name will be remembered.

Speaking of Alexander, he's been pretty good for a laugh so far. I like him. It's a nice touch that they have him referring to himself as Iskandar, since over time during his conquests he adopted more and more Persian customs, so it's fitting he would refer to himself by his Persian name. At least, I'm assuming that allusion is what the author was going for.

As for Waver though, heeeee's getting on my nerves a bit.

And Saber in that suit and ponytail. Ugh, my heart. "Adorable king of knights" indeed, Kiritsugu

As for this episode, I'm a bit curious where Caster's master is. He doesn't seem to mind giving his servant total freedom of movement. And seeing Saber getting upset over not being allowed to fight at first brought back some memories What's old is new again, eh?
