Sorry, that i am bumping an old thread XD.
But i have finally pleyed Grandia2 now. It was a fantastic game experience. I am still moved. And i don't quite understand how people complain about the ending. It was just beautilful. Seeing what everyone does now and the transition from Elena singing to Ryudo. Guess people wanted an ending where they show who ends up with Ryudo? Well, there are indications that he ended up with Millenia. Elena was touring all around and she is really happy now. Millenia settled down and Skye is with her. The music is just awesome. |

I thought he had more chemistry with Elena, but I didn't care who he ended up with in the end. I thought G2 was a little too melodramatic storywise (until I played G3 which is even worse) and the side characters had little to no presence at all. I've had cravings to replay all the other Grandia games except G2 and Xtreme, which tells you how little I think of it. I expected to like it and I tried to like it but, no, it does nothing for me.
In terms of enjoyment I'd rank them like this G1 >>>>>> G3 (using Select button to skip cutscenes) > G2 > GX >>>>>>>>> G3 (watching the lame cutscenes).

Well, the first Grandia was a wonderfull fairy tale. Simple but elegant. The ending alone was satisfactory as hell.
Grandia 2 improved in graphics and gameplay and the story seemed more serious. But the ending really sucked for me too. What is this shit? Where are the marriages and the kids? They turned from heroes to salarymen for Valmar's sake! The characters in 1 kept having adventures and traveling around the world. Grandia Extreme flavored the gameplay a bit. But as story and cast it was so boring I lost interest right away. Grandia 3 improved visuals and gameplay even further. Mixing eggs and doing aerial slashes and aerial finishes was awesome. Still, the story was so generic i didn't care anymore. For me, the best story goes to 2, the best ending goes to 1 and the best gameplay goes to 3. Extreme is plain BS. |

I am only a few hours into Grandia III, haven't spend much time on it for months. The CG cutscenes are good in terms of graphics, while the battle system is too much like Shadow Hearts which I don't like. The game features mostly voiced dialogue which is good.
I have yet to try out Grandia Xtreme is a remake of either Grandia or Grandia II, not really sure.. |

Really?
I had read it on Gamefaqs awhile back before I got Grandia Xtreme. I thought it was an enhanced remake of Grandia II with more content and features. So, its actually a brand new game.. I will check it out later. |

I mean, not even only the battle system, but the animation of the battlesequences are better in Grandia 2.
Also i am quite annoyed that they repeat the same phrase over and over again for any kind of magic move........"Moon give me strenght". |

Don't think so.
Special moves maybe. But the spells aren't. One move of Millenia is even in Anime-style. Not to speak of the endless random battles. It really gets annoying after some time. Also i am sad that there is even much less voice output than Grandia 2. My only compaint about Grandia 2 is that it was a bit short. All in all: I prefer Grandia 2 over Skies of Arcadia |
