I watched the opening

I was going to watch the raw just for the music but decided not to, i'll wait for subs.

And the opening, well i think it's too slow and doesnt go well with the song.

Personally I thought it did the manga justice - the music took a softer tone than normal coming from Kajiura, although still beautiful (Lacey in particular was very pretty). The animation ranged from decent quality to good quality, with a few absolutely gorgeous moments - the Alice from Oz's "dream," for instance and later a still-shot of Sharon at the end of the episode.

Overall pretty good, I thought. From all the warnings I was getting about XEBEC's less than impressive track record I was dreading the final product, but it turned out nicely.

Ok, I finished watching the first ep. It was an okay episode, some points were disappointing though.

Cons
- Animation looks old, (oh well, I'll get used to it)
- I still say that Ayako's voice as Alice doesn't work. Yukari Tamura makes a much more menacing and cute voice.

Pros
- Created a beautiful tense atmopshere
- LOTS of Alice fanservice in ed. XD
- Opening was good. (no complaints)
- Lots of Oz and Gilbert brief humour.

I always thought SB's standard is quite high, so if he said he has a liking to it, I'd expect it's quite good.

I enjoyed that. Yes, strong atmosphere. Unexpected situations. Maybe a bit muddy in rolling out the characters or the story. But highly enjoyable, with striking characters.

I don't know the manga at all, but I thought Kawasumi Ayako was great. That voice really worked. Lots of little shadings, and creating a strong impression of the personality. I can't remember her using this voice before.

Overall, the thing that I was most concerned about this anime was that it kept the manga's feel, which I feel it did. The art was good but not great, but I guess that helped the feel a little bit. I would be concerned with some of the characters looks if

. The most important characters look great though. The music was perfect for the show, though I couldn't listen to it on a loop. Guess it looks like a very promising start, but far from a perfect one.

Both the OP/ED are attractive, and the type of art/visuals in this anime are to my liking, though the art does give off a "dull", should I say... somewhat sleepy feel to it. But that's what is good. Then again, I might have been weeping ponds of tears in my heart while I watched this anime... Kind of refreshing to watch a male lead after going through Queen's Blade (AKA, look, skin! anime) and K-ON (AKA, look, moe! anime)... Well, there is Basara, but that's just pure silliness, in a good meaning. Though as for a first episode, there is just some things you can't grasp. Everything is just completely covered in mystery, so it is hard to really say "it was interesting" because everything just leaves you in question marks. What was that giant hole at the beginning? What was with the girl and dolls? etc. But it still succeeded to attract my attention. I especially took a liking to Gilbert (and his half-dead eyes), but he gets possessed or something at the end! The other characters are so-so for now. Oz feels like a good lead, the loli... is what..., the old man, etc. Well, in the future. The OP shows a lot of characters, so I hope for 2 cour! Freaky so far but beautiful. Spoiler for Ep 1: First episode was quite freaky, i had my hairs up at certain points hehe. Both the OP and ED musics are very nice, bg music at the grave part had great momentum. The story itself seems interesting too. Hope episode two clears up some of the fog on "what happened with the butler", who are those mysterious people. Also Oz was narrating from 1st person view point in the near end, so that was him looking back to the past or something? Overall 3 thumbs up for the atmosphere! __________________
