This is what the novels say about it:

In chess, the queen is the most powerful piece, but the king is the most important piece. As metaphors, the probability of Queen = Haruhi and King = Kyon is high. My personal interpretations: (1) The King (Kyon) preferring to take itself out of the board, not being integral part of the actions. (2) The Organization is dedicated to a) protect the World from Haruhi's rampage, b) maintaining Haruhi's power and thus Organization's relevance. Thus Queen > King, even though the Organization (and rival Organizations, even Tsuruya family) recognizes Kyon's value. (3) Foreshadowing the central decision in the Disappearance. The paradox of the King wanting to be both off (safe) or on (in play and danger) the board. Like I said, there isn't a scrap of extraneous information in Haruhi novel/anime. Couple more observations: i) The chess board flipped during the K vs K scene. Perhaps a deliberate mistake to "watermark" TV and make people buy the DVD? ii) The book Yuki was reading was called "Give Love Time" (in the novel it's a foreign language book of unknown title). Can't understate the significance of that for the Yuki camp. |

koizumi doing what he did with the king IS a metaphor
but in my mind its just a much more basic one it simply means that some people dont play by the rules meaning that where haruhi is concerned then nothing is set in stone

A new episode of the series, Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, was aired. It and all the subsequent new episodes will be mixed in with older episodes. If you want more information than that, either read through some older posts or wait till someone less lazy than I am replies to you.

The re-airing contains both first and second season episodes at this point. All the first season episodes are from the DVD releases. The show is being shown chronologically with the new episodes added in where appropriate.
So you don't have to rewatch the older episodes if you have the DVDs. But you will need to at least pay attention for when new episodes air. We've had one already. We expect more in four weeks.

There were a few changes to the art style, but nothing really major. The heights of the characters seem to have changed because of the proportions shifting, and the eyes are drawn slightly rounder. At first it seems like more of a change, but if you watch it again it's not that different.
I'm going to be missing the next new episode again. I am completely the best at planning. EDIT: Shit, you posted before I could say anything. Goddamn ninjas, all of you. |
