I think GuP was released on a rather good timing. Subjects connecting girls and WW2 tanks (planes, ships... etc) are nothing new in Japanese fiction.

Though I wonder, if another show sharing the main similarity as GuP was released, I wonder what the fan reaction on both sides would have been...

What other show? I'm still wishing Kankore, Arpeggio and World of Warships would have a mass orgy.

Only wot seems to be the only one that got lucky and rightly so. The girls did not serve to distract from the tanks. The Panzer 4 was as much a main character as the leading ladies, all without changing much things. Even the cushions and cute stuff in their tanks serve as a nod to how tank crews add little things to their machines as they see fit.

Really, there is a lot going for GuP, especially the lack of bad fan service.

The odd paint jobs grabbed some attention early on ( I had to point out that they only used those for one battle and learned their leason) but the tank battles sold it from episode 4 onwards. To the point were some that don't normally watch anime watched at least the battles.

There are tons of manga, art and even games before GuP involving school girls and German tanks. If fantasy with a WW2 setting, you can bet on seeing German-themed tanks

GuP however, has the honor of being broadcast on television before anything else

Thus the question, if some other show was released other than GuP with a WW2 theme, I wonder how different fan reaction would have been.

I only remembered her as "the girl who wants a boyfriend which is me btw", and then for some unexplainable mystical phenomena I only noticed the Miho tag, and further complicating matters is the fact my mind is full of Anchovy everytime I visit this thread

Funny, that reminds me of the Liberation film series by the former Soviet Union.

Yeah, I seen the whole damn thing. It was a lengthy but epic film series produced back in the ol' Soviet days, something you won't see coming from Russia any time soon.

IIRC the date for the double length OVA of the battle against Anchovy comes out in April? And the movie this fall?

My understanding is that the OVA is to be much longer than the normal OVA, and the last I heard is that it would be approximately twice as long. I was hoping those on this thread who are more in the know would be able to confirm a date.
