Well unusual is a cultural bias, in America with 12 year olds getting pregnant and dating thier teacher 4 kisses might seem a slow pace, but if a girl is from a very traditional Japanese family (remember arranged marriages still happen in Japan) then 4 kisses might be pretty wild and raucus. Our perceptions are colored by our own culture and what we see of thier culture, if you watch a lot of tentacle porn you might think Japan is the most sexually progressive (or strange) place on earth, but I would guess that represents only an extremely narrow view of Japanese sexual appetites. Also to keep in mind Suzuka and Yamato even more so are from the countryside in Japan and the countryside in any country tends twards the conservative in certain social behavior.

Just read the raw, and Yamato deserved to be slapped. Yes, boys are horny etc, but Yamato's approach is wrong. He completely ruined the mood. To anyone who cares, the appropriate approach is to place your hands just above the woman's hips (or around the waist) while you are kissing. (*Note: The word while is important). Then slowly move you hands toward her breasts by either moving your hands up her lower back or stomach. (Back seems to work the best) It's important to pay attention to the girl as you do this. If she protests in any way (moving away for example) then stop. What Yamato did technically constitutes sexual assault regardless the fact that they just finished kissing. They are simply not familiar enough with each other when it comes to sex for him to just grab her breast like that. Please understand that when a woman allows you to kiss her does not give you automatic access to the rest of her body. You have to play the game just like everyone else and wait for the proper time to run to second base. If you just waltz to second just because you feel like it, then you will be tagged out.

**Note: This is the proper approach for first timers, if you and your girl have sex frequently then you can obviously ignore this.

***Note: Every girl is different. Some like it fast while other like it slow. This is the safest and the most gentleman like approach to reach second base.

It's fairly true that they're still at that age where hormones tend to go wild. It takes a lot of discipline to keep that in check, and of course, having friends that tend to pressure the situation doesn't help either.

Suzuka's obviously displayed herself to be able to keep things in check regarding herself, though not everything. (If looks and words could kill, Yamato would have died several times already.) Of course, considering how she repressed a lot of things because of the death of...I can't even remember his name anymore, it makes sense. Besides, her standards are pretty high, so I doubt she'd be so easily "charmed."

Yamato, in the other hand, like I said; is somewhat falling prey to peer pressure... and a bit of immature stupidity. Though, I can somewhat sympathize and understand his situation. Honoka may have been his first girlfriend, but it's been proven several times already that he's incredibly serious with his relationship with Suzuka, though I think Suzuka had unconsciously and subtly helped him grow in that outlook. He doesn't want to screw up, but at the same time, he really doesn't know how to take things. He doesn't know if he's taking things too slow or too fast. He doesn't even know when would be a good time to embrace and kiss her. Even simply holding hands, he had to learn (and probably is still learning) when it's okay to do so. In that respect, I can sympathize for him. Maybe I can see myself in his place and doing similar mistakes as him, or maybe it's because I've been in those situations before where I don't know what to do at the right times, and knowing myself quite well, I'm sure I'll still make screw ups like him. And I'm older than him by several years. "Knowing the right moment" isn't exactly easy to gauge. It's all a learning process since everyone's different. I hate to say it, but for most guys, it's almost like training a dog. You've got to have enough patience with them and give them time to get the hang of it... Sad, but true... Not always the case, though.

Yes, I think Yamato made a stupid move, none-the-less and I think he better be good with apologizing to Suzuka. One of the things I want to see him do is not only apologize to her, but explain to her that he's still learning things when it comes to doing things right, and hopefully she understands. She's been understanding enough thus far, though his small act of stupidity might have caused a problem in that department. I won't be too happy if Kouto uses this as a way to cause problems between Suzuka and Yamato, unless it's just a way to show that there's still things need to be ironed out like I thought.

What I was trying to say is that 4 kisses is moving along quickly in Japanese thought if not in actual truth. (people always tend to think themselves more proper than they really are) Check out Hajime no Ippo, (i am on volume 40 which represents roughly 3 years of time passage in the manga) The main character Ippo has been after this girl Kumi for 3 years, and hasn't even told her he likes her much less held her hand or anything else and yet she still puts up with it. Ai Yori Aoshi, the two main characters are engaged and more or less live in the same house (for a good while) and yet they can't get past the shy kiss stage. Ichigo 100%, I's, Video Girl Ai, the main character has girls litterally flinging themselves at him and he can't accomplish anything with any of them (we all know in the real world he would slept with all of them probably)
So, from that perspective Yamato is right on track (pun intended) for a manga romance.

The funny thing is that in 90% of the cases, Hattori's advice is generally correct. Unfortunately, Suzuka consistently ends up in the 10% bracket. And Yamato is pretty bad at figuring things out himself, while Suzuka is very problematic and unforgiving either.

Now that there's been such a longish Suzuka arc with no discernable dramatic development, the ending of the manga is pretty much predetermined, I'd say. The times of angst, apprehension, hoping and fearing are over.
