flawed characters

Are there anime that not only have flawed characters but these flaws actaully cripple them and/or they overcome said flaws to become better people?

Seconded.

May be a tab bit disturbing at first, but if you get over it, it's a great story and definitely fits your requirements.

Can't believe i thought of Hamlet when i read the title

OT: I suggest Mirai Nikki and Liar Game. The way I see it, the main characters from both of these mangas are so deeply flawed to the point of annoyance (at least for me). I guess you could say they grow to overcome their problems as the series progresses, but personally I don't exactly see their improvement. But who knows, you might.

Many of the characters in Welcome to the NHK! are flawed, and some of them perhaps overcome these flaws.

There's also the trope where a whiny main character develops character and power over the course of the story. Twelve Kingdoms would be my recommendation here.

Nabari No Ou. Almost the entire cast is flawed in one way or another.

The Twelve Kingdoms - flawed characters that actually change, and in a believable way - ah, SeijiSensei already mentioned it. In addition to the mentioned trope, three side characters undergo satisfactory transformations.

Neon Genesis Evangelion?

Surprised no one bought it up yet.

I'll third on Onani Master Kurosawa if thats the manga we were talking about. Based on your description, it seems perfect but a little disturbing based on if you know what "Onani" means.

I second Welcome to the NHK, almost everybody is ''flawed'' in one way or the other

Other than the shows that are mentioned Soul Eater comes to mind. The big difference is that while characters grow, untill they do, their flaws are mostly used as a comedic device.

Ok, I can hear you thinking: "I asked for flaws that cripple characters not flaws that are simply made fun of".

And I promise you they do! In Soul Eater most of the battles are pretty light hearted ... but there is always a serious threat and character-flaws really do prevent the main trio (and other characters) from preforming their best in crucial situations.

Try it if you have not already.

Shakugan no Shana and Toradora both have a character who is flawed upon their introduction, with change in the characters of both stories.
