When did you First Watch Anime?

Just curious, when was the first time you watched anime and knew it was an anime or a Japanese cartoon. Pokemon only counts if you knew it was an anime when you first watched it.

1 episode or less of a series doesn't count.

Edit: didn't answer my own question... For me, I started in 6th or 7th grade with Naruto (first anime that i knew i watched) or when ever it was when Naruto premiered on Cartoon Network...

Edit again: Please use your best judgement in this poll. If you don't remember knowing that it was a Japanese cartoon or an anime, then don't count it.

Note: Too lazy to check, but are all Japanese cartoons anime?

My first anime was Naruto, back when it was first airing in Japan, around 4-5 years ago. I simply found it on the internet and enjoyed it.

Does Speed Racer count? I knew it was Japanese, but wasn't aware of the classification "anime."

I picked 31-40. I'd seen Akira and Ghost in the Shell and thought they were amazing, but didn't really "get into it" until a coworker let me borrow some VHS tapes of some Miyazaki movies. Then I found a video store that had the complete set of Bubblegum Crisis OVAs and I was hooked.

At about the same time I got my first computer and started looking stuff up on the internet. There weren't any downloads like now, but there were fan sites for different series and I learned a lot from those.

Ehm, would Doraemon and Pokemon count as anime, because that is the first thing on my mind. I remembered seeing it when i was 7~8.

Otherwise,my "real" anime experiences started around 2 years ago, with Haruhi being the first anime that I had seen and was aware that it is anime

First anime I ever watched would be undoubtedly Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, particuarly the Robotech version my family had tapes of. That was as early as I can remember, before I was even 3 I think. Then I went through the Super Sentai phase, before returning back to anime with Dragonball and then Sailor Moon when I was maybe 5.

Well, for Doraemon and Pokemon, did you know they were anime when you saw them? cuz that wouldn't count. and yay for Haruhi!

I was in Hong Kong, so I probably first watched anime at 5 or 6. I don't remember exactly what I watched, except that I loved Miyazaki's Laputa and Totoro.

Can't say exactly, does Wickie, Heidi and Biene Maya count as anime? lol
Some anime I saw early was Goldrake (Gurendaiza) on Italian television (a lot of people still remember the title song of it), saw also the butchered version of Nausicaa. When I was young there wasn't much anime on television at all and I even could not get all the stations that aired it, since I live in a somewhat remote area.

Bye, signorRossi.

can't say, the amount of anime I've seen is painfully limited (10-20 series?). However, the amount of manga, lost count at around 25 (then again, I didn't really ever count ). just use your best judgement as mentioned at the top

I was 15 when I started. I was 16 when I started seriously getting into it and started to buy DVD's and merchandise.
I have seen and bought many anime series through that period of time up until now.

I started watch DBZ and Sailor Moon on Toonami around 9-10, but I did not truly get into anime until I started watching Tenchi. I remember the first time it aired in America. Before then I saw DBZ and SM as just cartoons. From there I went to Anime Unleashed on Tech TV
