@ Rain - That happened after we all knew Ryuu was going to die. Michael is a new character and most people assume new characters survive.....then he gets shot and left for dead, pretty much leaving the bombs to be disabled only to Irish and Joshua. Of those two, Irish is the only one who can do it properly

Character Development is perfectly fine in a large amount. Just not all at once.

@ Rain - Angst is not present in Shadow. Irish, the guy with the most reason to angst, calls out Kyuukai on angsting too much The way he lived his life pretty much killed most of his emotional capacity.

Not really a christmas fic, and something that just came up at the top of my head, don't expect this as a quality fic though. I only did this in half an hour, lol.

White Christmas

Tell me, what are you feeling? A sense of longing? To live a life? Or is it something else?

Words that hanged inside of my head, but questions that even I could not have answered. Strength to protect my friends and my sister, that should be enough right? But strength did I really have on my own?

I looked towards my gauntlet, the inactive Byaku Shiki. Yes, my own personal white knight, my blade of glory as I lived through battle after battle. I never did give his thanks, but who should he thank? Should it be Tabane, the maker of the IS and its cores or was it Byaku Shiki itself, who stood by me even in the most dangerous of circumstances.

My partner, my beloved partner. Ever since the second unmanned IS attack, I paid more attention to my IS, whether it’s through study or even asking for increased maintenance. This of course would keep me in shape, but that wasn’t the main intent. I had a duty towards my partner, it was the least I could do.

Lately, I have been hearing a girl’s voice, a different voice from the one that gave me the questions, this voice was soft. Her words had given me reassurance and on one night, I saw her in my dreams, it was a girl about the size of Rin. She had long white hair around the length of Laura’s, and she was wearing a pure white sundress, the colour of the cleanest snow. Her skin was also white, but not pale white. Her long white hair was beautiful, I cannot see her eyes, but I saw a smile as she looked at me.

Somehow, I knew this girl and this girl knows me.

I unconsciously held my hand towards her, “Will you come with me?”

Was this girl shy? She hesitated as her hand reached mine, her hands were colder than mine, and I wanted to provide that warmth to her. As if reading my mind, she answered, “But you are always there for me. But, you don’t have to fear, my time would be soon.”

Left with that crypted message, she embraced me. At that moment, I understood the meaning. Yes, how could I have not realized it now? She was always beside him, my partner. And yes, I would have to agree with her, this would be one of the best Christmas he will experience…

On Christmas…
I knew that this day had come, without my gauntlet, my hand felt lighter but I felt additional weight pressing deeply on my body. At first, I was a bit worried that Laura may have sneaked into my bed, and tragic consequences await if Houki or Rin was coming in afterwards.

I took the sheets off to see the exact same girl in my dreams, but this time, I could see her eyes, it was of a clear aqua blue, that reflected the sky. Her expression was soft, but she looked at me with a childish curiosity.

“Good morning?” My mind was still in the process of resetting itself if this was still a dream or not. I took my outreached hand and pinched myself. Pain? Yep, this was real.

“Ichika, I’ll get off now.” With that, the weight lifted off my chest, well she wasn’t that heavy to begin with, not that I would express it out loud anyways.

“Byaku Shiki?”

The girl nodded, “Although, you can call me Byakko, while I am in this form.”

Getting dressed is a potential problem, seeing as my IS as a girl, was watching me the whole time. “There is no need to worry, I am used to it afterall.” While most girls would shriek in glee or horror (my childhood friends), she still remained the same.

Sneaking out of my room is another difficult task, there is NO way that I would introduce this girl without causing a massive commotion, not that the one boy piloting the IS fandom has completely died down among the students, but to say that oh my IS has become a girl would definitely cause the Academy to explode with the girls’ excitement or jealously much like a nuclear missile exploding on a target.

Taking Byakko by the arm, I made the way to the exit, which is still some ways off. The lights were still down, which means that a stealthy escape is still possible.

Rounding a corner, I spotted a third year grabbing a drink. I made the motion for the girl beside me to remain quiet. Well, pretty useless as she was even more quiet than me while I had to devise one plan after another.

As the third year returned back to her room, I ran towards the door and out through it.

As I breathed a sigh of relief, I can feel a small sense of dread. First of all, the door shut back LOUDLY, and as I hear mild voices yelling behind the door, “Ichika! Where are you?!”

Should I turn back?

Should I suffer the wrath of Guan Yu and his Guan Duo, or rather the iron binder?

Should I commit seppuku here?

But what about Byakko? I can’t leave her to die. And I made the vow to protect my IS, who protected me in return. Ok, new plan.
“Byakko, we are going to run as hard as we can and don’t look back!”
Byakko sensed my nervousness, well it shouldn’t be a puzzle behind it because we are linked neurologically.

What have I got myself into today?

But I have to admit, this is one WILD Christmas.

@ Rain - Which leads to the conflict in his character later on since he wasn't scraed of dying and this helped him since his time was limited. Now he's scared again and he has to live with the consequences.

Why am I using her? Good question.

Well, to be honest, I wasn't even thinking straight (and listening to Nayuta's UN Owen is her? didn't help either lol.

However, I am not using Yachiyo's idea as I didn't like that the human personfication had pink hair. And my Byakko is emotionless but sometimes childish.

I am trying to make parallels mostly by drawing with Zone of the Enders when Leo tried to explain his "humanistic" actions in opposition against ADA (the Orbital Frame's AI)

As the Schwarzer Regen wrapped around Laura, she screamed in her soul that she wanted power. She wanted power so much that she'd pay any price. Her body, her soul, her very being if necessary. She obtained it, but as it was in her hands, a thought struck her. "Why am I here?". Laura had always believed that she was born, no, manufactured, to be strong. Her reason to be here was to be the best. Her reason was to beat everyone, everything that stood in her way and stand up proudly on top. But someone appeared, that someone was way beyond her reach. That person was the pinnacle of power, grace and beauty. The presence was both sublime and oppressive. To Laura, this person was perfection. The person she needed to achieve, or rather surpass, to become the strongest. But now that she achieved it, was this darkness worth the price? The power is in her hands, but she can't see, she can't feel. Her senses are gone and she's left with nothingness. In the middle of all this exhilarating energy that coursed through her, she felt powerless. All she could do was succumb and let everything be swept away by the void.

A light, how odd. A small light that grew brighter the longer she stared at it. She wondered if it was the light people who were dying would see. Laura felt a sharp pain in her chest, a familiar sort of longing. Hope? In a flash the light tore through the darkness and the power Laura felt was no more. Instead, a sort of refreshing sense of control took over her. She asked again what was strength. A young man's voice answered that he didn't know. Laura didn't know why but she felt a great gentleness from this voice, the same feeling from that person in her past. "You are strong." were Laura's words. The young man denied it but said, that maybe if he was strong, it was because he had to be strong. At that moment, Laura realized it. The reason she was here wasn't to be strong, it wasn't to surpass that person either. The reason she was here was to meet this young man who surpassed the power she coveted.

Laura awoke on the bed of the arena sickbay. The sky was crimson with a sunset framed by the window, reminding Laura of a painting. That person appeared before her and filled her in on what happened, an experimental weapon that would rip her soul in exchange for power. Laura felt nothing for it. She could neither hate it, nor accept it. Once upon a time she may have embraced such a thing but now... such power felt empty. That person asked Laura who she was, Laura answered that she didn't know. She'd lost her way when the VT took over. She knew her path became meaningless as power had turned moot. All she remembered was the young man. Yes, the young man.

That person told her to take up the name Laura Bodewig and take it as her own. That person left and Laura could only laugh at herself. What sly siblings, saying what they want then just leaving. Laura already knew her path, where she should be. The reason Laura Bodewig is here is him.

They aren't wrong (in a way) but Byaku Shiki has TWO persona.

The first persona is the one that belonged to White Knight as the mature one (probably manifested when Chifuyu piloted it, which is why she looked very similar to Chifuyu) that asked Ichika why he wanted strength.

The second persona (the one I am using) is the one with the white dress and the sun hat that says, "I must go. They are waiting for me..." She's the childish one as she probably manifested when Ichika first went into First shift.

@Valiant: Guan Yu is one of the heroes in the Three kingdoms and part of my fav. kingdom (Shu). I think Ichika has a fascination with him. Guan Duo is his weapon, it's basically a glaive like weapon. In fact, I thought that Rin's halberds were referencing this weapon.
