I'm not confused, but I just don't want to be limited because of the Mental Model.

How exactly can we define sentience when it comes to machines and AIs? Does it have to be organic or can be something artificial? Why does it have to be related to having a Mental Model? Or it has more to do with their core?

Like what Kongo said, having MM was like having a mortal body, which comes with many restrictions. The simulation of senses projects emotions, and having emotions lead to mistakes and indecisiveness.
I say the mental model does not confer sentience, but it's just a delicate medium to convey senses directly to the core, and the core was able to use these "perceived" senses in all forms of decision making.

The MM is not exactly organic, but it's a replica of an organic being with the highest intelligence. When this "body" was subjected to various "conditions", a huge amount of data will be transferred and received by the core. If the core can process all these data, it will make a subconscious decision, just like us humans. But if there are just too much data, the core will be "confused" and send error messages all over the place. Haruna went berserk not because her MM was having a problem, but it was because her core was overloaded with data to a point that it no longer can function.

Destroyers also have union cores, but unable to have MM, it just means their core isn't powerful enough to process the large amount of data transferred by the MM and it will render them inefficient. They can still perceive by other means, one way or another, and make similar decision processes as the ones with MM. Vampire is our best example.

All ships became sentient after their second "reboot", Yamato developed the concept of MM and pass it to all Fog members to promote growth in self-awareness. Haruna, Takao, Iona, even Musashi took that concept to the extreme and settled themselves amongst human, thus they advanced far greater than those who didn't. This is where Fog and Humans truly converge.

I've been writing a Fan fic on a side forum, it's in Chinese though, with barely any readers and I write super slowly.
My focus was Takao and hoping it can turn out like a medical fan fic. I've been collecting words and phrases just like Haruna for a while now.

Our view of mental models differ then. On my own part, I feel that the bodies are not the whole story, since having a human-like body does not confer a sense of history and time, and it's implied they did not have that till they created mental models. Mental models in my view are inclusive of all the intuition, dynamic reasoning and emotion simulations they run in order to become more like humans.

We'll leave it at that I think, we've taken up enough pages.

I haven't, but since I have more time right now, I can do some digging and see if I can put some of them in English.

I can do:
A few of the funny and interesting cover pages. They have been translated in my language, like Hyuuga's Base in Iwo gima, Takao's wardrobe 402 fished out ect. Volume covers for 5 and 7 maybe even 6 too I think. They are not so hard to translate into English.

CN version of the glossary

Again the version I read before was pretty loose, and thinking there are 4 pages of dictionary to translate makes me lazy
I can try if people wants more of this

Anything else that's worth the salt to put on this sanctuary of Arpeggio information thread, you can suggest and contribute or have I missed something too. Maybe even some great fan-arts??
