Houkago No Pleiades [Anticipation]

Subaru x Gainax’s collaborative net anime Houkago no Pleiades will be making a triumphant return in TV-anime form, likely as a further grand endeavor to woo otaku into purchasing Subaru vehicles.

Sankaku Complex is not a reliable news source; it's a sensational tabloid, and a bad one. At least link to ANN's old article.

There is a nice img on the link too.

Be interesting to see this again. The first few shorts were okay in a charming kinda way.

Gainax did a great job at Magica Wars and it is indeed one of the better magical girl series of today, but from what I’ve seen of the animated shorts of this one, it was in no way anything not out of ordinary. The visuals are top-quality nonetheless, but as generic the story sounds, the execution can make it a little better, I’ll definitively check this out when it airs.

The worst thing about the Houkago no Pleiades ONA is that it felt like a short preview to or the first episode of a much longer series, a magical girl story which we only glimpsed the tip of the iceberg of. It didn't feel complete or satisfying because of that. A full TV series can really go anywhere, but it almost definitely won't feel as half-assed as the ONA did.

The thing that makes me incredibly sad is that Gainax was once the least generic studio in the business, both thematically and visually. And Pleiades just looks incredibly generic.

I'm pretty sure there are few studios (such as Shaft) that can handle stuff way more unusually than what Gainax does I suppose.

I might concur, from what I've seen of the ONA (doesn't mean the TV series can't be better, as there are series that are generic in premise but otherwise turns rather well).

Gainax did have animated at least a few magical girl series (in my view) and the latest of such, Magica Wars, managed to be rather great and explore some concepts that put an average lighthearted magical girl series to shame, even if it doesn't really fit the studio's older self much.

The old Gainax she ain't what she used to be...

Surely Gainax these days are like when you see a famous band from the sixties or seventies on a pub tour, and it turns out the only original member is the bassist because everyone else either made it big enough to not need the money, or they're dead.

I'll probably give this a watch, the shorts were OK, but who are going to be the bad guys, Nissan?

well, judging by the ONA that aired years ago, its just your average sugar filled mahou shoujo to appeal towards Subaru fans, much like Precure, unless they wanted to add in one of the girls getting ran over by a Subaru truck in the name of advertisement

According to the official website's news section, the opening theme will be performed by Kano, a new female singer; the single will be entitled "Stella-rium". Ending theme is performed by the series' main cast of 5 girls under "Fragments" name; the single will be entitled "Koko kara, Kanata kara".

This really seems like a very weird commercial or some reason. Seeing the Subaru logo on there really took me out of it. I don't know if they've done anime series before, but I haven't watched any of them myself.

And it's equally weird for me since I actually have a Subaru....

HnP is the first series to have Subaru collaborating on it the same way Nissan is involved in Lagrange: The Flower of Rin-ne.

Music is going to be done by Shiro Hamaguchi according to elsewhere. Character designs is also up here. An event involving the advanced airing for the first two episodes will be screened at "Fukushima Gainax" stand in "Haru no Bunkasai 2015" anime-based event in Fukushima.

A web radio adaptation will run at Onsen, a Tabliers Communications-based radio programming station themed around anime programming.
