It has, actually. But it's not that mandatory and many people overlooked it in favor of grinding. Personally I like to do the story quests first.
Hopefully it'll be taken by a decent studio.... and I'm curious whether the infamous Dudu will make the cut or not.

There also was quite a number of stage actors, but they probably will have a seiyuus for the anime. |

WHOA!
It's my favorite game on the PC! (third person mmo, which can be played offline in story mode). If you want a taste for the game, start with the PC version of Phantasy Star Unlimited: Ambition of the Illuminus. The first PSO is slightly less nice, and has too much explaining going on, on how to play the game. In version two, you'd have to figure it out over time (which you will), and has a great story line! Looking forward to the animation. The story line is good. I hope Sony will support these animes again, as they always have done a great service to animation, with their exquisite eye for detail! PSO was for the play station (or xbox) gaming console. But PSU (same game, but on pc) had a plot. Plot of PSU: Spoiler:
I certainly hope this will turn into a vol 3 someday, where mankind probably will Spoiler:

Eh, the original Phantasy Star series seems like a better platform for storytelling than PSO, but that won't sell the online game I suppose.
Meh, cautiously non-optimistic in case it surprises me. I somewhat enjoyed the first PSO back on Dreamcast, but the lack of content quickly killed interest. I only saw a few game footages for PSO2 and it seemed to inherit everything I didn't like about the first one, and never gave it a try.

Another anime based on an MMO. Do we really need a repeat of what happened with Blade & Soul? <_<
Also, obligatory "we're going to get an English dub of this series before the game it's based on comes to the West" comment.

Anyway current thoughts are since the setting is "earth in the near future" it's probably going to be a similar plot to the stage play that was some player using some VR headset and getting stuck in the game. I really, really hope it's not though.

I rather wish they just go for the original setting of PSO2 or don't release this at all, given SEGA's record it just mocking the overseas fans after a 'recent statement from them saying they wish to win back oversea fans trust' I don't even know if this is going to be a Prequel which might reveal some of the NPCs past or a 'side-story' which takes place in a certain time period of PSO2. Whats the point of creating an anime of a game if there aren't any references or meeting of your favourite NPCs? I don't recall them mentioning Earth at all in the older games, well perhaps besides the old rpg. Also, there are 2 'timelines/dimensions' for Phantasy Star Online series. PSOBB (Dreamcast/GameCube) - PSO2 (PC) PSU (PC / Xbox) - PSP (PSP) - PSP2/i (PSP) - Gurhal System There is an actual story PSO2 it isn't grand, but it's fine for my taste so far. But for an anime based on PSO2 it will most likely be a side-story of some ARKS member going off for infinite adventure and discovery... ahem... |
