Karas

Karas - 6 episode OVA -> 2 "movies" in US
animenewsnetwork
animenfo
official (JP)

Back of DVD says:

Quote:
Tokyo: a city populated by both humans and ghostly beings. They exist in both dimensions, seen and unseen: spirits, apparitions, demons. The balance between these two dimensions has long been upheld by the city's guardian crow Karas and his masters. But that balance has been thrown into disarray as Eko, a former Karas, has attempted to seize power and bring order to the streets through force. The entity Yurine, who represents the will of the people, stands in his way with her newly risen Karas. Now an ageless battle stretching across both dimensions and killing humans and spirits alike is in progress. Karas is humanity's last hope.
Up for preorder at deepdiscountdvd 3eps for $12. You won't get a better anime deal than this.

Question: Manga Ent says second volume at 9-26. Is this even realistic? I don't think the last 3 eps are even out in JP are they? Judging from the release dates of the first 3 eps I dunno if there's enough time between now and then heh.

Btw: Karas is awesome!

Karas is being released as two feature length movies and not a 6 episode OVA here in the states. :/

Edit: I love how the dubbed trailer says Care-ass D:

So why do people fight, anyway?
Perhaps the meaning of existence lies within their will to fight.
People feel a sense of accomplishment through battle.
And it’s also a fact that the ones actually fighting are never perceived as being tainted.

i watched OVA 1 yesterday... it has the most jaw-dropping graphics, animation and battles i ve ever seen in an anime. or maybe even any kind of media. the plot was very vague (i guess things will be explained later) but that just added to the ZOMFGWTFBBQ feel Karas has... truly impressive.

ImperialPanda, that price is a bargain.

Each episode in Japan is like ~$50/$80USD hahaha. This is less than 10%; I'm almost wondering if it's bootleg. (bootleg part kidding fyi)

Any difference in making them movies instead of OVA? From the sound of that it seems to me they'd just combine each 3 episodes.

And yeah they're making some name changes, pronounciation or otherwise. Yurine → Yuri. I think even an English pronounciation of Yurine would be better than the way-overused Yuri. Hopefully they don't pronounce Kure as "cure" or something like that ... That'd make the dub impossible to listen to.

(On hindsight, I suppose the 'ne' could be 'sister' instead of part of her actually name. But somehow I don't see that happening. )

i hope that is the case though i fear lots of scenes will be omitted to make it shorter.
3x25min=1h:30m is a reasonable length for a film... leaving it untouched is not out of the question.

Not a movie format!

I really hope that they keep it in episodic format. It is being originally released as a 6 episode OVA. Converting it to a movie format could mean that it going to feel awkward as the jumps from 1 episode to another don't connect easily imo. It could also mean a loss of the opening animation which is really psychodelic.

So what do you think is up with the box shown on the website?

Manga Entertainment website

Is that a hint for a limited edition version?

Guys, check out Ergo Proxy. The animation is at par with Karas, and in addition, the main protagonist is a girl ... too beautiful for her own good, I may say.

Two movies? That sucks, but I'll buy it anyway.

Can either of you supply your sources? Nothing I've found indicates either statement is true. Not accusing you of being liars, but I like to try and verify internet rumors as often as possible.

Synopsis: "[...] and a young woman named Yuri and her servant [...]"

I'm presuming they get this stuff from Manga.

Dunno about the movie thing, didn't hear it from me.

For those interested, I have the Best Buy release date plus summary here:http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....uct&id=1520931. Says 90 minutes long w/ a DVD title "The Prophecy". According to their summary, she's still called Yurine.

The cast list is what piqued my attention. That's here: http://www.starpulse.com/movie/Karas...y/V342366/0/3/. The only one with any real anime work is the guy that does Otoha, Steve Staley. IMDB says he did the lead human in Heat Guy J, plus random voices going back to the '80s.

I'm not sure how I feel about the other ones. Piper Perabo as Yurine should be interesting, anyway.

April 25, here I come.

R.

EDIT: I just checked the manga homepage (http://www.manga.com/). Their Karas trailer now has english voices.

...I might be watching this one strictly in japanese.

About the VA... it's average I suppose. (aka will listen to JP track)

I love the guy who said "in stores april 25th." Sounded like they just grabbed some intern to say that lol.

That song was very nice at the end of the first episode, but the full version wasn't as good as I expected it to be. =/
