i've been reading the manga over again and it got me thinking why there was another hokage while the 3rd was still alive and kicking.

did the 3rd retire and come back after the 4ths death or what?

the 3rd even tells the the kage of the sand that he doesnt plan to retire for a few years.

I think its the second situation.

He probably told that to Kazekage so as not to let him have the impression that he's weak and easily bullied.

how old was the forth when he died? about 15-16? I'll say that's pretty young to be hokage. Its also obvious that naruto will become hokage at an earlier age than the fouth

If he was that old, and even the 3rd said the 4th could handle orochimaru, then the 4th must of been pretty strong. Plus if he would of developed his skills, he could been even more powerfull.

how could he be 15-16 when he was already teacher to a 13 year old Kakashi?

he was prolly around 26-28

and i saw nowhere were it said 4th could handle Orochimaru...

I think that guy read it wrong. Hokage said the Fourth's seal could handle Orochimaru, not the Fourth himself.

nope yondaime could handle Oro.I forgot which episode but when the 3rd and Anko were talking.She said if only yondaime was here and 3rd said no he is dead and saved the vllage don't say that.We need to do on our own.

Yes the 4th would probably kill oro or Itachi.But he was very young actually not in his prime.And he was something like 24-25 not older.

OMG, in episode 50 something when hokage was talking to anko, he specifically siad "I wish the 4th was still alive so he could handle orochimaru".

Dude go check that episode again it was Anko who said that and the 3rd said dont say that he died saving this village.

she doesnt say he could handle Orochimaru...

she says "if only he was alive, this would not be happening" or somethin like that.

which doesnt mean he would be able to handle Orochimaru at all.

and there really isnt any evidence to say who would win even if 4th was in his prime.

No it's never say in the manga that the 4th can handle and beat Oro, Anko just say that it would be better if he could be alive.
The manga shows that Oro and the 4th were more or less at the same level when they were young but that's all.

Well, this is my opinion based off what I've read in the manga, but I think separately, either the 3rd or the 4th would have really had their hands full going up against Oro alone. Together however, they would have kicked Oro's pasty white *** and beat him down in record time.

Same goes for Itachi.

If you read the manga carefully, you may come to the conclusion that Orochimaru was stronger than the 4th Hokage by that time, when the 4th died. The 3 facts that prove this statement are listed bellow:

Isn't the Hokage by definition the strongest person in the village? So...the 4th was probably appointed because he became stronger than the 3rd. And then when the 4th died, the 3rd became Hokage again because he was the strongest person again.

Just my theory.

As he said in their fight, Oro was destined to carry his will and fate. However, because of Oro's twisted mind and evil ambitions, the 3rd chose another person to succed him. That's when Oro got pissed and left the Leaf, becoming a missing-nin. Remember, Oro is much stronger now than he was 13 years ago. He got a new body, and he learned a lot of jutsu in this period, as well as aprimorized his intelligence. - Anko doesn't really state the 4th could beat Oro at all. She just states that they would have a higher chance of defeating Oro if the 4th was alive. And remember, she didn't know Oro had a new body. But we can't really say who'd win. We can't tell how stronger the 4th would be if he was still alive. And it's stupid and pointless to discuss this, since he's dead. - Sarutobi states, at some time, that Orochimaru was the best ninja at that time, and a rare talent that only appears in a few decades. So, we can come to the conclusion that Oro was stronger than him at that time. And don't forget Oro's much stronger today- too bad now his arms are sealed.
