What I said is I'm going to give Nanoha the HELLBORE attack, based off Crash's Hyperlance Extension, and maybe beefed up with the Advanced Pattern for that extra punch.

[4th Regiment, Ground Forces Military Academy]

Ground Forces Military Academy, also called Mage Academy, it stands at the border of a wasteland between Mid-Childa and Belka territory.
Inside, this year's new cadets were gathered in the auditorium for the opening speech.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, you've followed your dreams to this academy..."

The speech is then interrupted by a door in the back opening and a female voice, "I'm sorry I'm late! I overselpt!" The girl bows down.
All new Cadets glance at her as she joined in. Among them, a small girl with long dark blue hair and golden eyes just shrugged it off and payed attention.

"Ahem..." the spokesman cleared his throat, "I hope your aim is to become a qualified member of the Armed Forces."
"Remember your oath: to serve the people and protect the peace."
"Put everything you've got into your training!"

The audience then replied with a vigorous "YES SIR!"

With the ceremony over and one hour before the first training session, the rookies check the billboards at the lobby.
Near the billboards, an instructor spoke, "Attention all cadets, for those sharing a room, your room mate will be your training partner for now."
"We've paired you based on your interview and entrance exam results, so please work hard to maintain a good relationship with your partner."
Upon checking their designated rooms, some cadets even congratulated each other for being paired up, probably because they're friends...but she...

Still at a tender age, Fuuko was the youngest cadet this year, as she walked to the billboard, girls around said things like "Kyaa~~ she's so cute!" or "She looks like a doll~".
Even though Fuuko didn't care about being commented about, she couldn't help but smirk a little, after all, she's her parent's pride and joy.
(If a partner is necessary, I'll have to bear with it...only competent people enter this academy. Even if I have high standards for a partner, it can't possibly be an incompetent klutz...right?) She said to herself.

Suddenly, the sound of paper scattering about was heard, followed by the voice of a girl, "Im sorry! I'm so sorry!"
For no reason at all or maybe just plain curiosity, Fuuko looked back and saw the mess.
A red haired girl bumped into an officer that was carrying documents and is picking them up.
Looking at the girl, Fuuko noticed she was the same one that got late to the opening ceremony...also, her Ground Forces uniform was put on a rush, buttoned wrong, and the ribbon on the shirt's neck was barely tied.

After picking up all the files, she bowed slightly to apologize, but ended up knocking over the pile of documents again...
(S-she's hopeless...) Fuuko couldn't look anymore, she just turned to the billboard and searched for her name and the designated room.

"Hmm...ah, there it is. Number 26." and looked at the name of her room mate, "...Ellyja Halvern."
"Ah, that's me!" said a voice from behind.
Fuuko slowly turned around, only to find out that her "partner" was the red haired klutz.
"............" Fuuko just stayed silent, twitching an eyebrow.

After picking up the documents and not knocking them over again, the girl walked up to the billboard, then at Fuuko, "You're Fuu-chan?" She smiled.
"Eh...w-what?..." Confused, Fuuko blinked.
Ellyja looked at Fuuko...then, her cheeks turned red as her smile widened "Kyaaaa~~" She suddenly shrieked and hugged her, spining around. "You're so small and cuuuuuuuuute~~"
Still being embraced, Fuuko tried to complain,"H-Hey! W-What do you think you're -mhmm!" but ended up with her face pressed against Ellyja's chest.
"Ahhh~~~To think my room mate is such a cute girl, I've always wanted a little sister~~~" She snuggled up to her.
(What's with her? We just met and she's already this friendly!?) Fuuko thought.


Finally letting go of her, Fuuko went to a nearby instructor. "Excuse me, if pairings are based on our test results, why am I paired up with 'that'?" She pointed at Ellyja.
"Hey, don't call me 'that' I have a name you know!" Ellyja complained.

The instructor looked at them, "You two are Team 26, right? Mhmm..." opening a screen, the intructor checks their data.
"Well, there certainly is a large gap of abilities between you two, but Cadet Minawa, did you not take a junior instructor license?"

"Well...Yes, I did, but what does that have to do with this?" She asked.
"It seems that is one reason you are paired up, to improve Cadet Halvern's grades." The instructor closed the screen, "Don't worry, you scored first place in this year's batch of cadets, with such grades it shouldn't be much trouble to tutor her...Oh, I have a meeting with the other instrutors, if you'll excuse me..." The instructor walked away.
".........I see." Fuuko replied as she saw the instructor go. "I took that license for extra credit...Just because of that...haha...*sigh*" Her shoulders sink in disappointment with herself.

Fuuko looked at her partner, she sighed again, (...It can't be helped.)
"Ohh~ So you're the one who scored best this year, that amazing! You're like a genius~~"
"Right...and you? Where did you score?" Fuuko asked.
"Ahahaha..." She scratched the back of her head in embarrassement, "...The bottom." Ellyja answered with a smile.
Fuuko fell in disbelief as she heard those words, (........what?) Her left eye twitched as Ellyja's last words repeated in her head.

Blinking, Ellyja gets closer, "Is something wrong? You don't look so good. Want another hug?"
"N-No!" Fuuko steps back. "Anyway, let's just go to our room unpack and change, we'll need to warm up before training." She started walking.

"Yeah!" She followed Fuuko, "Oh, Fuu-chan, you can call me Elly if you like~" She said joyfully.
"There'll be no need for that, this team-up is just temporary. Hopefully, we'll be reassigned to different classes and I'll be -Wh-what are you doing?!" Fuuko turns to Elly as she take the bag off her hands.
Elly then grabs Fuuko by the waist and carries her with one arm, while holding their bags with the other, then started running "We'll get there faster this way~~"
"H-Hey! Don't carry me like I'm luggage!!" Fuuko complained.

For the record, Edelweiss' design is reminiscent of a late Cold War-era MBT; it reminds me of the T-72 and the M60 Patton. While obselete by todays standards, both were serious combatants during their time, and would wipe the floor with WW2-era tanks.

If you want to get really crazy, of course, you can just throw an M1A1 into Valkyria Chronicles. The problem with the M1A1 though is that getting ammo will be a bitch - but you're effectively invulnerable to most things the enemy's gonna throw at you. Worst to worst, there's the coax .30cal and the cupola .50cal.

When I saw it my first thought was acutally an M-24 Chaffee:


Keep in mind this is supposedly set in like 1935 at which point even something roughly at the level of the Chaffee would be like a frikkin Tiger.

It doesn't looks much of anything like a T-72 the turret isn't even vaugely similar and the hulls are vastly different. The T-72 can best be described as "squat", the M-60 is closer being quite tall (not really a good thing) and with a vaugely similar turret shape although still rather different .

If you want to get really crazy, of course, you can just throw an M1A1 into Valkyria Chronicles. I'd take a Merkava myself the Merkava is a pretty sweet tank as it's got a built in 60mm mortar, can carry up to like ten guys in the back, has all the MGs you could want, has some neat rounds for the main gun (missiles and indirect fire) and the newer ones off the lines are being fitted with hard kill countermeasures. It's probably not as fast as an M1 and might be every so slightly less armored then an A2, but neither would be an issue here and the potential advantages of some of it's features could be quite useful.

I know in my case I had them ferrying around teams of guys in light power armor (Ghosts and Kommados from EndWar). Basically they'd just role toward the enemy ignoring the ineffective AT fire fire then unload like three dozen nearly bullet proof spec ops troopers into enemy lines then continue advancing in close support of the dismounts this produced "Shock and Awe" to say the least.

I remember thinking about the Merkava: "So the israelis made a tank that carries troops?"

Also, something that I wonder about: did WW2 tank doctine encompass firing on the move? I recall most tank aces being snipers who camoed and hid and then sniped from afar. (IIRC Michael Wittman parked his Tiger in front of the Russians and then kept firing till he ran out of ammo.)

Depends on the tank, US tanks have some rudimentary stabilization on there guns and could fire on the move somewhat better for instance. Accuracy was very variable though and it was very much dependent on the gunner really. Most tanks could fire on the move, but accuracy wasn't very good and stopping was preferred if possible.

That said it did happen at times:

Well character wise Hinata is different from Ellyja as she is awesome in sports and everything that involves movement.
She's no klutz at all!

It would appear I'm on quite a streak recently here we have Part 2 of chapter 4 coming in at a bit under 4,800 words. This is mostly comedy bit inspired somewhat by some musings in IRC about what sort of Image one might acquire by dating what appears to be a 12 year old whatever her true age happens to be...

Earlier chaps can be found in the link in my Sig and again banged out pretty rapidly before the Mojo faded so perhaps a bit rough.

O’Neil’s Office, Evening

“Sorry to keep you waiting it’s been a bit of a busy day.” O’Neil sighed as he returned to his office and found Fisher already making himself at home inside.

“I noticed.” His friend replied casually waving it off.

O’Neil moved past and made a beeline to a pot of coffee he’d put on earlier and poured himself some, Fisher had apparently already helped himself before he’d even arrived. Once he’d procured a large mug of the stuff he moved back to his desk and flopped down in his own chair. “Your guy alright?”

“None the worse for wear according to the Doc.” Fisher informed him.

“Good to hear, sorry about that too by the way.” O’Neil added genuinely sorry the man had ended up wounded after being called in on his behalf.

“Trust me he doesn’t need any help from you to get his ass wounded.” Fisher remarked with a smirk. “You said the situation was serious and it was so think nothing of it, and you’d have done the same thing for me in a second.”

That was true O’Neil supposed; he and Emanuel had known each other for years now and risen in rank in there respective agencies at roughly the same pace. Both of them were something of a rarity in being officers that pushed for closer interaction between various branches rather then strict separation, and so they’d naturally gravitated toward each other. The infighting between branches could be viscous at times and was occasionally even encouraged by those in power as a means of increasing there own standing or reducing those of others. It was a woefully inefficient system though as demonstrated by the often extremely similar units scattered across the TSAB whose main difference was in what color uniform they wore. The difference between an Enforcer, Special Investigator, and Agent could be rather flimsily for instance aside from the fact one was Navy, one was Ground Forces, and the other Intelligence.

Still old habits died hard and changing entrenched ideas was a slow process. O’Neil, Fisher, and a few others in the higher ranks of various branches worked to increase integration were they could and supported each other as best they could sometimes officially, sometimes less so. Though the little cabals ultimate goal was something like a Joint Command to try and unify the various branches under some sort of coherent central control few of them held there breath on living to see it happen.

“You don’t think this was the end of it though do you?” Fisher questioned getting serious.

“Not really no.” O’Neil affirmed grimly.

“Neither do I, but getting anyone else to care is gonna be a challenge.” Fisher remarked ideally swirling the last bit of coffee in the bottom of his cup.

“Tell me about it.” O’Neil sighed wearily.

Things were enough of a pain before that mad scientist reject threw his little temper tantrum, but at least they’d been fairly predicable. Predictably slow, but still predicable, but that had all gone to shit in the last year. As more and more of the bullshit that the very upper reaches of the TSAB had been engaged in came to light the calls for “reform” had reached fever pitch, and this reform came mainly in the form of wholesale political purging. With thousands dead and wounded and the capital having nearly been destroyed heads had to role and anyone vaguely associated with the establishment was on the chopping block. This included both military and civilian figures.

On the one hand it was a blessing, O’Neil had never really been part of the establishment for the most part and so had received little heat, and indeed as something of an outsider he had gained a certain amount of clout and increased his power. At the same time though the constantly shifting political landscape in the wake of quite possibly the most massive political shakeup since the founding of the TSAB made for a treacherous and capricious political landscape. Allies today could be enemies tomorrow, and people willing to heed a concern one day might dismiss it the next.

This instability had also made already institutional ass covering even more pronounced. At the moment few were willing to take any risks that might attract attention or bring disfavor upon themselves in the midst of such a witch hunt. Thus in many areas of the TSAB the prevailing mood was to batten down the hatches and ride out the storm doing only just enough to keep the ship afloat. The actual performance of assigned duties tended to suffer as a result…

This had hardly gone unnoticed and it seemed like every wannabe rebel, big headed egomaniac, and two bit thug had come out of the wood work looking to make trouble. There was indeed no shortage of trouble to deal with at the moment and he probably couldn’t count on too much support based on his currently rather flimsily evidence for anything beyond a run of mill looting of an archeological site. Even the possibility of cyborgs wasn’t a big deal, those things seem to be coming out of the woodwork all over the place and using them to pillage low priority archeological sights was positively benign compared to what some guys where doing with them.

“Suppose we’ll just have to handle it as best we can with what we’ve got.” Fisher remarked blandly.

“Probably, we’ll make do somehow like we always do.” O’Neil shrugged in response.

The discussion continued for sometime longer, some of it about work, much of not as the pair hadn’t met face to face in sometime. By the time Fisher took his leave it was well past sunset and the base was winding down for the night. O’Neil retired toward his quarters not long after tired and eager to sleep though still running the days events and plans for the near future over in his head even then. Well just another day on the job tying to do everything with nothing and stay out of trouble all at the same time… and the guys flying around out in the field blasting crooks with beams thought they had the tough job.

Felix had a problem, a big one; well metaphorically speaking anyway. Physically it was actually pretty small, but it was located in a most inconvenient place namely laying on his couch snoring in a most unladylike fashion. As is want to happen when TV is involved the passage of time became somewhat abstract and apparently after some mindless hours in front of it he’d drifted off. He wasn’t sure how long he’d been out, but he was eventually awakened sometime later by the above mentioned snoring to find his unwanted guest likewise comatose on his sofa, but showing no signs of rousing herself.

He quickly began weighing his options he could wake her and boot her out of course, but then he’d probably be roped into helping her find some other place to sleep, that was most logical, but... it was also the most work, far too much work for him to be assed to do at the current time. So he opted to leave her in place but feeling some sort obligation as a host, at least that’s how he rationalized it, he actually went to the trouble of jamming a pillow behind her head and tossing a sheet over her.

Satisfied with that he promptly headed to his own bed and conked out himself.

Next Morning

“Ugh.” Vita grunted groggily as she awoke, the sun was peeking through a window and shining right into her eyes rousing her in a rather unpleasant fashion. She sat upright to get the sun out of eyes and shook her head a bit too clear out the cobwebs rubbing her eyes a bit as well to try and help clear them. It was only then, the better part of a minute after she awoke, that she first noticed her surroundings. She flushed slightly as she realized she was still in Felix’s room apparently having spent the entire night on his couch, and then she flushed even more when she realized that she most certainly had not had either the pillow or the sheet she did now when she’d nodded off.

“You always sleep like twelve hours at a go or is my couch just that comfortable?” She jumped slightly as she heard his voice from behind her and spun to find him sitting at the small table in the kitchen with coffee in hand. “You’re snoring is rather grating by the way.”

Her cheeks remained red although now out of irritation. “You could have woken me up.”

“Yeah, but then I’d have had to find some place else for you to sleep, way too much work.” He responded rather passively, he wasn’t much of a morning person and couldn’t really get the venom going.

Vita wasn’t much in the mood for it either frankly and let it drop. “Where are the showers around here anyway?” She asked grumpily as she pushed herself up off the couch and stretched.

“The communal ones are downstairs, but there’s one a hell of allot closer.” He gestured to the bathroom door at the back of the apartment. “I already took mine.” He added as an afterthought.

She flushed slightly again, but then consider which was worse using a common shower populated by complete strangers or using a personal one in private… On consideration she really didn’t feel like going down hunting around for the common one and being able to wash in private rather then around a bunch of total strangers sounded preferable at the moment frankly. Still she needed to make one thing clear. “If you peek I’ll kill you.”

“Why peek when there’s nothing to look at?” He shot back pointedly earning a glare but nothing more as she quickly retreated into bathroom.

Felix shrugged and flipped on the TV to be promptly greeted by some inane morning talk show, but about five minutes of flipping found nothing better mainly more bad talk shows and infomercials. “500 Channels and nothing to watch…” He grumbled irritably ending up back where he’d started. The talking head on screen was babbling about political instability some place or another, but he was basically tuning it out and was really only interested in the background noise frankly.

His mind was still wandering back to the battle and the case as whole really. He figured it was rather likely that whatever O’Neil had been scheming for him at the start of all this would be put on hold and he’d probably be re-re-assigned back here now. Which meant his time putting up with the women currently occupying his shower was likely coming to a close, but a tad oddly that didn’t make him nearly as happy as he expected… Before he could ponder that further the nuisance in question chose this moment to emerge from the bathroom and now fully awake.

“This never happened, got it?” She informed him pointedly as she emerged.

“Agreed, I don’t want anyone getting weird ideas about me.” Felix wholeheartedly concurred.

“Pff I’m the one who should be worrying about my reputation.” She came back dismissively as she headed for the door. “Anyway I’m staving so you’re showing me to the mess.” She announced in a rather demanding way.

“Since when did I become your tour guide?” Unfortunately for Felix this comeback was swiftly undercut by his traitorous stomach rumbling a few seconds later. “Alright fine, so maybe I could use something to eat anyway.” He grumbled defeated.

Driven by hungry and being in a bit of a hurry neither of them noticed a small mop of light brown hair duck back behind a corner as they emerged and set off…

Mess Hall, Sometime later

“So there I was walking down the hall when I heard something interesting coming from one of the rooms, well I obviously had to stop and take a listen…” Daisy had center stage at her table in the mess hall as she enthusiastically reported her findings to a group of girls she’d rounded up more or less solely for that purpose since after all there was no point knowing juicy gossip if you didn’t spread it around after all!

The assembled group numbered a half dozen with her included and consisted of Rose, Makoto, Keller, Cameron, and another girl her age she’d seen sitting around alone and simply grabbed on impulse named Anastasia. The groups level of interest in her spiel varied Cameron and Keller seemed reasonably interested, Makoto less, and Anastasia… well she wasn’t sure what was even going on.

As for Rose well her view wasn’t too surprising really or very positive. “What have I told you about spying on people?”

“Not to do it.” Daisy replied flippantly, but without even a hint of remorse. “So anyway I heard the two of them talking inside about how what happened wasn’t to be mentioned, and then I saw them both come out of his room looking really tired. Well I did some poking around and I heard from someone else they went in there yesterday and were in their all night!”

“What have I told you about spreading rumors you supposedly heard from ‘someone’?” Rose remained less the pleased with her partner.

“Now I don’t know about you but I think it’s pretty clear what happened!” Daisy continued on oblivious.

“And now you’re totally ignoring me.” Rose was becoming more then a bit annoyed.

“I’m sure there’s is a reasonable explanation for that.” Anastasia spoke up for the first time and played the voice of reason.

“Yeah the explanation is that they were getting it on!” Daisy countered excitedly.

Rose sighed and finally gave in and joined the conversation. “But I mean, well look at her she looks about twelve.” She remarked uncomfortably.

“Maybe he’s into that?” Cameron theorized aloud.

“You think? I don’t know he doesn’t really strike me as the Loli-con type…” Keller remarked curiously sparing a glance at the subject of discussions back several tables over in the crowded mess.

“Perverts come in all shapes and sizes.” Makoto noted sagely.

“Is it really perverted though? I mean she is technically like what several centuries old right?” Keller countered thoughtfully.

“Yes, totally perverted.” Makoto had not a shred of doubt in her mind on that.

“Definitely.” Daisy added.

“Absolutely.” Cameron agreed.

“It would seem a bit squicky honestly.” Even Rose was forced to concede that if it happened it would be kinda gross, the entire group now glanced over at suspected Loli-cons back. Increasingly lost in this conversion was the whole “lack of proof” aspect, but such a thing had never stopped a good rumor spreading before, particularly when you had a bunch of people sitting around without much useful to do…

“Something bothering you?” Pixy inquired passively as he watched Felix quickly glance over his shoulder yet again.

“Those damn kids have been giving me weird looks all morning.” He remarked gesturing slightly with his head toward the group of girls several tables over.

“Heh, maybe they’re checking you out?” Pixy smirked.

“Shut up and eat your oatmeal.” Felix glared back eliciting a mere innocent whistle from his friend, but his rebuttal did nothing to shake the bad feeling hanging over him…

“So did you hear?” Shin asked gamely as he strolled into the room he was temporary sharing with some of the other recent arrivals.

“Hear what?” Miller asked curious turning his attention away from a TV for a moment.

“About the LTs bonking last night.” Shin informed him casually. “The brown haired one umm Daisy, yeah that’s it, told me about it.”

“Bonking?” Not a hint of recognition crossed Miller’s face.

“You know getting freaky.” Shin switched up to another innuendo without missing a beat.

“Huh?” Which also zipped right over the recipient’s head.

“They where having sex.” Shin sighed in defeat.

“Oh… wait really?!” He suddenly got it though recognition quickly became surprise.

“They argued way too much not to be doing it.” Kou remarked dismissively from his position lying in the top of one of the bunks.

“All night eh? Impressive.” Enzo remarked intrigued as to the story he just heard while finishing up removing last of the bandages he’d just removed from his patient.

“They seem to be keeping it quiet though.” Emil added with a shrug rotating his shoulder a few times to limber it up now that it was free.

“Understandable I suppose.” Enzo commented casually as he dumped the used bandages into a bio-hazard bag and headed back toward his desk. “Well there’s not much else I can do for you, just give your body a bit of time and you should be good as new.”

“Thanks Doc.” Emil responded slipping back on his shirt and heading for the door.

Enzo said nothing and merely gave him a short wave as he exited.

“The two of them?” Atuwe questioned a bit surprised at the news. “Eh I suppose I can see it though.” He added after a moment of reflection.

“Is he really into that kind thing, you know little girls?” Cameron questioned suspiciously.

“Well I don’t really know, but then I’ve never really seen him with anyone his age.” Atuwe replied after a moment of thought.

“So he really is a pedo…” Cameron remarked darkly.

“Talking about anything good?” Aurion suddenly appeared behind them causing the pair to jump.

“Not really!” Cameron answered quickly.

He eyed them for a moment, but shrugged it off. “Right let’s start our scans of the third layer of cognitive sub-routines.”

Felix glanced back over his shoulder sure he’d heard the pair of staffers that had just walked by him whisper something, but they quickly rounded a corner and vanished without further comment. What the hell was going on here? People had been giving him weird looks and muttering stuff behind his back all damn day!

So occupied looking back over his shoulder was he that he failed to keep a look out ahead and blundered right into someone at the next intersection, not that he would admit that mind you. “Hey watch where you’re going next ti-- Oh it’s you.” He remarked blandly as he noticed who he’d run into.

“That’s my line you’re the one not paying attention.” Vita snapped back at him.

“Then why didn’t you avoid me?” He countered in turn and they exchanged glares.

“… It’s happening to you too?” She questioned a few moments later breaking eye contact.

“Yeah, what the hell is going on?” He confirmed scanning the corridors suspiciously.

“I wonder if someone saw us—“

“Ah found the both of you, perfect!” The sudden intrusion of a new voice caused them both to jump and they whipped round to find O’Neil wandering up to them lazily. “Listen I’ve got a job for you guys.”

“So what’s this about anyway?” Shin yawned slightly as he sauntered onto the field having been woken from his midday nap.

“Well we’ve been more or less just laying around doing nothing so they’re probably just looking to give us some busy work.” Kou remarked passively as followed a few steps behind.

As they arrived they where greeted by both Vita and Felix already in there barrier jackets. “Alright kiddies fall in and we’ll explain why you’re all here.” Felix remarked lazily and seemed to be paying them little heed as they formed up apparently intently reviewing a data sheet.

“Do you think they know?” Rose whispered over at Daisy beside her in line having been called out specifically and now seeing both Vita and Felix here had spooked her.

Daisy winced slightly, this was the stupidest possible time to ask such a thing and indeed it turned out she’d just made a fatal blunder.

“Do we know what?” Felix suddenly appeared behind them leaning his face in uncomfortably close to the pair and eliciting involuntary sweating from both.

“Do you know umm” Rose choked out weakly clearly hedging and looking for a plausible response which only brought Felix’s full attention onto her. Just behind him Daisy was gesturing franticly and conveying something to the effect of “he doesn’t know anything just bullshit him!”

“Private Thorn if I didn’t know better I’d say you where trying to signal Private Bush in someway…?” Daisy jumped slightly as Vita suddenly appeared beside her.

“Come on Private I’m quite interested to here what you’ve got to say.” Felix questioned with predatory grin closing the distance between there faces even further.

“Daisy might have started a rumor you two were having sex!” Rose suddenly blurted out cracking under the pressure. This staggered admission achieved its desired result as both Felix and Vita stepped back and in fact they seemed slightly stunned by it.

“You damn stool pigeon they didn’t know shit!” Daisy cursed vehemently at her partners frantic admission.

“It’s your fault for starting that stupid rumor!” She shouted back nearly hysterical.

“Hey I ain’t taking all the rap for this you spread it around too!” Daisy angrily countered.

“Yeah well it wouldn’t have gotten even out if you hadn’t gone and told the boys about it afterwards!” Rose was getting pissed now too.

“Oh sure just go and throw us under the bus too!” Kou tossed up his hands in exasperation.

The violent clearing of a throat suddenly silenced all present though and brought attention back to the pair of instructors. “So the truth comes out then.” Felix remarked darkly, the very air around him seemed to have taken on a dark tinge.

“So it seems, apparently this lot never learned that spreading viscous rumors is very impolite.” Vita matched both his expression and aura and everyone present felt a chill run down there spine.

“I think they need a lesson in manners.” Felix added his lips curving into a slightly mad smile.

“A very severe lesson I’d say.” Vita added with a rather terrfying cheerfulness.

“Oh… Now you’re going to use this training session as an excuse push us right up the borderline of physical abuse aren’t you?” Daisy remarked sheepishly.

“Oh yeah.” Felix affirmed.

“You’ll have bruises in places you didn’t even know you had.” Vita added.

“So what’s the word?” Jack entered the room completely unannounced causing both Atuwe and Cameron who’d been deeply engrossed in their work to jump slightly at being disturbed.

“Well we’ve completed a preliminary analysis of the device and determined it’s effectively intact structurally speaking.” Aurion was rather harder to disquiet though and answered the General’s query without missing a beat.

“Then why isn’t it working?” Jack asked curious, while no expert he was pretty sure laying around totally limp wasn’t how Unison Devices were supposed to behave.

“A fair question; once we ruled out any structural or mechanical issues we moved on to other possibilities and we think we’ve found the main issue.” On cue a large holographic window popped up showing all manner of images and text that meant precisely butt-kiss to a laymen like O’Neil.

“We ran an analysis of the devices cognitive matrixes…” Cameron took over here and prepared her spiel.

Sensing an impending Technobabble avalanche O’Neil struck first and decisively. “Atuwe you explain it.” He ordered bluntly cutting off Cameron midstream she looked genuinely hurt by this but O’Neil regretted nothing.

Gifted though she was Atuwe was significantly better then her about dumbing things down for public consumption. “Well I doubt you care about the details so I’ll sum it up like this: basically the thing has the equivalent of severe brain damage. It’s effectively in a coma from what we can tell.” Atuwe informed from his position toward the back of the room.

Now that he could understand and he gave Atuwe an apperceive nod by way of thanks for the blunt and easily understood assessment. “So can you fix it?” He asked the obvious question this newly acquired knowledge posed.

“That is the million dollar question isn’t it?” Atuwe remarked wistfully while leaning back in his chair.

“We think there’s a chance we can bring it back online, but it’s still a risk and if we fail it’ll likely be lost for good.” Aurion clarified the slightly cryptic statement a bit.

“Is there any chance it’ll recover on its own?” Jack asked seriously.

“Virtually none.” Cameron answered firmly.

“Doesn’t seem like such a tough choice to me then.” Jack replied off hand and the others nodded in agreement.

“We can do the work here; though we’ll need to requisition a few pieces of specialist equipment.” Aurion remarked casually.

“I can handle that I know some people in R&D requisitions.” Cameron quickly put in.

Jack now nodded to her appreciatively since he counted any instance where he could get out of having to schmooze for something himself as a victory. “Alright then how long are we talking here?” He was a bit impatient as he could not shake the nagging feeling that they had little time to waste.

“It’s hard to say it’s sort of one of those ‘we won’t know until we start’ kind of things.” Aurion shrugged unwilling to make any promises he might not keep.

“Well that’ll have to do—“ The entire room suddenly shook slightly, not allot, but you could definitely feel the slight vibration.

“Hmm they must be really getting into it.” O’Neil remarked unfazed apparently aware of the source of the rumble.

Aurion quirked an eyebrow in unspoken inquiry.

“Well honestly a number of our guests seemed to have an awful lot of free time on there hands, and since we were blessed enough to have not one, but two qualified Air Force instructors around I figured it was a great chance to allow some of them to maybe learn a little something from the pros.” O’Neil informed them casually.

“You know training is only useful if the person survives it.” Atuwe noted sarcastically.

“Oh relax I’m sure they’re not doing anything danger—“ The ground shook again, noticeably more forcefully then before. “On second thought maybe I better go have a look, do what you need to do but keep me posted people.” He didn’t quite run from the room, but he wasn’t wasting anytime either as he exited.

“So is this normal?” Aurion asked his two assistants curiously.

“Yeah more or less.” Atuwe shrugged.

“Just about.” Cameron nodded in agreement.

“Hmm maybe I should drop in more often…” He pondered aloud.

“With respect Sir we were only using magic damage; there was never any serious risk of death and their injuries are rather minor.” Vita countered rather lamely.

“Sadly it would appear the training field did not fare quite as well.” O’Neil noted blandly reviewing the maintenance report before him on his desk.

“I’d like to think of it as exposing some potential weakness in the system to be addressed in future updates.” Felix remarked unfazed by the damage.

“I don’t suppose asking why you went so over the top would yield a decent answer?” He sighed, as much amused as annoyed honestly.

“Well sir after assessing the group we jointly determined that they would benefit most from a… high intensity work out.” Vita informed him evenly.

“Indeed we felt that maximum realism would be the most beneficial approach given the students in question.” Felix added wholeheartedly agreeing.

“Well there is one bright spot I suppose.” O’Neil commented idly.

”Sir?”

“After this I rather doubt they’ll be afraid of the enemy any more.”

He’d put off eating in the interests of finishing up most of his work earlier, he had just a few things left to take care of and then we could get out of here a bit early; at least that was what he thought until he opened the door to the infirmary and was greeted by a half dozen battered, bruised, muddy and frankly miserably looking troopers crowding the room…

O’Neil’s Office, Evening

“Sorry to keep you waiting it’s been a bit of a busy day.” O’Neil sighed as he returned to his office and found Fisher already making himself at home inside.

“I noticed.” His friend replied casually waving it off.

O’Neil moved past and made a beeline to a pot of coffee he’d put on earlier and poured himself some, Fisher had apparently already helped himself before he’d even arrived. Once he’d procured a large mug of the stuff he moved back to his desk and flopped down in his own chair. “Your guy alright?”

“None the worse for wear according to the Doc.” Fisher informed him.

“Good to hear, sorry about that too by the way.” O’Neil added genuinely sorry the man had ended up wounded after being called in on his behalf.

“Trust me he doesn’t need any help from you to get his ass wounded.” Fisher remarked with a smirk. “You said the situation was serious and it was so think nothing of it, and you’d have done the same thing for me in a second.”

That was true O’Neil supposed; he and Emanuel had known each other for years now and risen in rank in there respective agencies at roughly the same pace. Both of them were something of a rarity in being officers that pushed for closer interaction between various branches rather then strict separation, and so they’d naturally gravitated toward each other. The infighting between branches could be viscous at times and was occasionally even encouraged by those in power as a means of increasing there own standing or reducing those of others. It was a woefully inefficient system though as demonstrated by the often extremely similar units scattered across the TSAB whose main difference was in what color uniform they wore. The difference between an Enforcer, Special Investigator, and Agent could be rather flimsily for instance aside from the fact one was Navy, one was Ground Forces, and the other Intelligence.

Still old habits died hard and changing entrenched ideas was a slow process. O’Neil, Fisher, and a few others in the higher ranks of various branches worked to increase integration were they could and supported each other as best they could sometimes officially, sometimes less so. Though the little cabals ultimate goal was something like a Joint Command to try and unify the various branches under some sort of coherent central control few of them held there breath on living to see it happen.

“You don’t think this was the end of it though do you?” Fisher questioned getting serious.

“Not really no.” O’Neil affirmed grimly.

“Neither do I, but getting anyone else to care is gonna be a challenge.” Fisher remarked ideally swirling the last bit of coffee in the bottom of his cup.

“Tell me about it.” O’Neil sighed wearily.

Things were enough of a pain before that mad scientist reject threw his little temper tantrum, but at least they’d been fairly predicable. Predictably slow, but still predicable, but that had all gone to shit in the last year. As more and more of the bullshit that the very upper reaches of the TSAB had been engaged in came to light the calls for “reform” had reached fever pitch, and this reform came mainly in the form of wholesale political purging. With thousands dead and wounded and the capital having nearly been destroyed heads had to role and anyone vaguely associated with the establishment was on the chopping block. This included both military and civilian figures.

On the one hand it was a blessing, O’Neil had never really been part of the establishment for the most part and so had received little heat, and indeed as something of an outsider he had gained a certain amount of clout and increased his power. At the same time though the constantly shifting political landscape in the wake of quite possibly the most massive political shakeup since the founding of the TSAB made for a treacherous and capricious political landscape. Allies today could be enemies tomorrow, and people willing to heed a concern one day might dismiss it the next.

This instability had also made already institutional ass covering even more pronounced. At the moment few were willing to take any risks that might attract attention or bring disfavor upon themselves in the midst of such a witch hunt. Thus in many areas of the TSAB the prevailing mood was to batten down the hatches and ride out the storm doing only just enough to keep the ship afloat. The actual performance of assigned duties tended to suffer as a result…

This had hardly gone unnoticed and it seemed like every wannabe rebel, big headed egomaniac, and two bit thug had come out of the wood work looking to make trouble. There was indeed no shortage of trouble to deal with at the moment and he probably couldn’t count on too much support based on his currently rather flimsily evidence for anything beyond a run of mill looting of an archeological site. Even the possibility of cyborgs wasn’t a big deal, those things seem to be coming out of the woodwork all over the place and using them to pillage low priority archeological sights was positively benign compared to what some guys where doing with them.

“Suppose we’ll just have to handle it as best we can with what we’ve got.” Fisher remarked blandly.

“Probably, we’ll make do somehow like we always do.” O’Neil shrugged in response.

The discussion continued for sometime longer, some of it about work, much of not as the pair hadn’t met face to face in sometime. By the time Fisher took his leave it was well past sunset and the base was winding down for the night. O’Neil retired toward his quarters not long after tired and eager to sleep though still running the days events and plans for the near future over in his head even then. Well just another day on the job tying to do everything with nothing and stay out of trouble all at the same time… and the guys flying around out in the field blasting crooks with beams thought they had the tough job.

Felix had a problem, a big one; well metaphorically speaking anyway. Physically it was actually pretty small, but it was located in a most inconvenient place namely laying on his couch snoring in a most unladylike fashion. As is want to happen when TV is involved the passage of time became somewhat abstract and apparently after some mindless hours in front of it he’d drifted off. He wasn’t sure how long he’d been out, but he was eventually awakened sometime later by the above mentioned snoring to find his unwanted guest likewise comatose on his sofa, but showing no signs of rousing herself.

He quickly began weighing his options he could wake her boot her out of course, but then he’d probably be roped into helping her find some other place to sleep, that was most logical, but... it was also the most work, far too much work for him to be assed to do at the current time. So he opted to leave her in place but feeling some sort obligation as a host, at least that’s how he rationalized it, he actually went to the trouble of jamming a pillow behind her head and tossing a sheet over her.

Satisfied with that he promptly went to turned in for the night and conked out himself.

“Ugh.” Vita grunted groggily as she awoke, the sun was peeking through a window and shining right into her eyes rousing her in a rather unpleasant fashion. She sat upright to get the sun out of eyes and shook her head a bit too clear out the cobwebs rubbing her eyes a bit as well to try and help clear them. It was only then, the better part of a minute after she awoke, that she first noticed her surroundings. She flushed slightly as she realized she was still in Felix’s room apparently having spent the entire night on his couch, and then she flushed even more when she realized that she most certainly had not had either the pillow or the sheet she did now when she’d nodded off.

“You always sleep like twelve hours at a go or is my couch just that comfortable?” She jumped slightly as she heard his voice from behind her and spun to find him sitting at the small table in the kitchen with coffee in hand. “You’re snoring is rather grating by the way.”

Her cheeks remained red although now out of irritation. “You could have woken me up.”

“Yeah, but then I’d have had to find some place else for you to sleep, way too much work.” He responded rather passively, he wasn’t much of a morning person and couldn’t really get the venom going.

Vita wasn’t much in the mood for it either frankly and let it drop. “Where are the showers around here anyway?” She asked grumpily as she pushed herself up off the couch and stretched.

“The communal ones are downstairs, but there’s one a hell of allot closer.” He gestured to the bathroom door at the back of the apartment. “I already took mine.” He added as an afterthought.

She flushed slightly again, but then consider which was worse using a common shower populated by complete strangers or using a personal one in private… On consideration she really didn’t feel like going down hunting around for the common one and being able to wash in private rather then around a bunch of total strangers sounded preferable at the moment frankly. Still she needed to make one thing clear… “If you peek I’ll kill you.”

“Why peek when there’s nothing to look at?” He shot back pointedly earning a glare but nothing more as she quickly retreated into bathroom.

Felix shrugged and flipped on the TV to be promptly greeted by some inane morning talk show, but about five minutes of flipping found nothing better mainly more bad talk shows and infomercials. “500 Channels and nothing to watch…” He grumbled irritably ending up back where he’d started. The talking head on screen was babbling about political instability some place or another, but he was basically tuning it out and was really only interested in the background noise frankly.

His mind was still wandering back to the fighter and the case as whole really. He figured it was rather likely that whatever O’Neil had been scheming for him at the start of this would be put on hold and he’d probably be re-re-assigned back here now. Which meant his time putting up with the women currently occupying his shower was likely coming to a close, but oddly enough that didn’t make him nearly as happy as he expected… Said nuisance chose this moment to emerge from the bathroom wearing a fresh uniform and now fully awake.

“This never happened, got it?” She informed him pointedly as she emerged.

“Agreed, I don’t want anyone getting weird ideas about me.” Felix whole heartedly concurred.

“Pff I’m the one who should be worrying about my reputation.” She came back dismissively as she headed for the door. “Anyway I’m staving so you’re showing me to the mess.” He announced in a rather demanding way.

“Since when did I become your tour guide?” Unfortunately for Felix this comeback was swiftly undercut by his traitorous stomach rumbling a few seconds later. “Alright fine, so maybe I could use something to eat anyway.” He grumbled defeated.

Driven by hungry and being in a bit of a hurry neither of them noticed a small mop of light brown hair duck back behind a corner as they emerged and set off…

“So there I was walking down the hall when I heard something interesting coming from one of the rooms, well I obviously had to stop and take a listen…” Daisy had center stage at her table in the mess hall as she enthusiastically reported her findings to a group of girls she’d rounded up more or less solely for that purpose since after all there was no point knowing juicy gossip if you didn’t spread it around after all!

The assembled group numbered a half dozen with her included and consisted of Rose, Makoto, Keller, Cameron, and another girl her age she’d seen sitting around alone and simply grabbed on impulse named Anastasia. The groups level of interest in her spiel varied Cameron and Keller seemed reasonably interested, Makoto less, and Anastasia… well she wasn’t sure what was even going on.

As for Rose well her view wasn’t too surprising really or very positive. “What have I told you about spying on people?”

“Not to do it.” Daisy replied flippantly, but without even a hint of remorse. “So anyway I heard the two of them talking inside about how what happened wasn’t to be mentioned, and then I saw them both come out of his room looking really tired. Well I did some poking around and I heard from someone else they went in there yesterday and were in their all night!”

“What have I told you about spreading rumors you supposedly heard from ‘someone’?” Rose remained less the pleased with her partner.

“Now I don’t know about you but I think it’s pretty clear what happened!” Daisy continued on oblivious.

“And now you’re totally ignoring me.” Rose was becoming more then a bit annoyed.

“I’m sure there’s is a reasonable explanation for that.” Anastasia spoke up for the first time and played the voice of reason.

“Yeah the explanation is that they were getting it on!” Daisy countered excitedly.

Rose sighed and finally gave in and joined the conversation. “But I mean, well look at her she’s looks like twelve.” She remarked uncomfortably.

“Maybe he’s into that?” Cameron theorized aloud.

“You think? I don’t know he doesn’t really strike me as the Loli-con type…” Keller remarked curiously sparing a glance at the subject of discussions back several tables over in the crowded mess.

“Perverts come in all shapes and sizes.” Makoto noted sagely.

“Is it really perverted though? I mean she is technically like what several centuries old right?” Keller countered thoughtfully.

“Yes, totally perverted.” Makoto had not a shred of doubt in her mind on that.

“Definitely.” Daisy added.


“Absolutely.” Cameron agreed.

“It would seem a bit squicky honestly.” Even Rose was forced to concede that if it happened it would be kinda gross, the entire group now glanced over at suspected Loli-cons back. Increasingly lost in this conversion was the whole “lack of proof” aspect, but such a thing had never stopped a good rumor spreading before, particularly when you had a bunch of people sitting around without much useful to do…

“Something bothering you?” Pixy inquired passively as he watched Felix quickly glance over his shoulder yet again.

“Those damn kids have been giving me weird looks all morning.” He remarked gesturing slightly with his head toward the group of girls several tables over.

“Heh, maybe they’re checking you out?” Pixy smirked.

“Shut up and eat your oatmeal.” Felix glared back eliciting a mere innocent whistle from his friend, but his rebuttal did nothing to shake the bad feeling hanging over him…

“The two of them?” Atuwe questioned a bit surprised at the news. “Eh I suppose I can see it though.” He added after a moment of reflection.

“Is he really into that kind thing, you know little girls?” Cameron questioned suspiciously.

“Well I don’t really know, but then I’ve never really seen him with anyone his age.” Atuwe replied after a moment of thought.

“So he really is a pedo…” Cameron remarked darkly.

“Talking about anything good?” Aurion suddenly appeared behind them causing the pair to jump.

“Not really!” Cameron answered quickly.

He eyed them for a moment, but shrugged it off. “Right let’s start our scans of the third layer of cognitive sub-routines.”

Felix glanced back over his shoulder sure he’d heard the pair of staffers that had just walked by him whisper something, but they quickly rounded a corner and vanished without further comment. What the hell was going on here? People had been giving him weird looks and muttering stuff behind his back all damn day!

So occupied looking back over his shoulder was he that he failed to keep a look out ahead and blundered right into someone at the next intersection, not that he would admit that mind you. “Hey watch where you’re going next ti-- Oh it’s you.” He remarked blandly as he noticed who he’d run into.

“That’s my line you’re the one not paying attention.” Vita snapped back at him.

“Then why didn’t you avoid me?” He counted in turn and they exchanged glares.

“… It’s happening to you too?” She questioned a few minutes later breaking eye contact.

“Yeah, what the hell is going on?” He confirmed scanning the corridors suspiciously.

“I wonder if someone saw us—“

“Ah found the both of you, perfect!” The sudden intrusion of a new voice caused them both to jump and they whipped round to find O’Neil wandering up to them lazily. “Listen I’ve got a job for you guys.”

“So what’s this about anyway?” Shin yawned slightly as he sauntered onto the field having been woken from his midday nap.

“Well we’ve been more or less just laying around doing nothing so they’re probably just looking to give us some busy work.” Kou remarked passively as followed a few steps behind.

As they arrived they where greeted by both Vita and Felix already in there barrier jackets. “Alright kiddies fall in and we’ll explain why you’re all here.” Felix remarked lazily and seemed to be paying them little heed as they formed up apparently intently reviewing a data sheet.

“Do you think they know?” Rose whispered over at Daisy beside her in line having been called out specifically and now seeing both Vita and Felix here had spooked her.

Daisy winced slightly, this was the stupidest possible time to ask such a thing and indeed it turned out she’d just made a fatal blunder.

“Do we know what?” Felix suddenly appeared behind them leaning his face in uncomfortably close to the pair and eliciting involuntary sweating from both.

“Do you know umm” Rose choked out weakly clearly hedging and looking for a plausible response which only brought Felix’s full attention onto her. Just behind him Daisy was gesturing franticly and conveying something to the effect of “he doesn’t know anything just bullshit him!”

“Private Thorn if I didn’t know better I’d say you where trying to signal Private Bush in someway…?” Daisy jumped slightly as Vita suddenly appeared beside her.

“Come on Private I’m quite interested to here what you’ve got to say.” Felix questioned with predatory grin closing the distance between there faces even further.

“Daisy might have started a rumor you two were having sex!” Rose suddenly blurted out cracking under the pressure. This staggered admission achieved its desired result as both Felix and Vita stepped back and in fact they seemed slightly stunned by it.

“You damn stool pigeon they didn’t know shit!” Daisy cursed vehemently at her partners frantic admission.

“It’s your fault for starting that stupid rumor!” She shouted back nearly hysterical.

“Hey I ain’t taking all the rap for this you spread it around too!” Daisy angrily countered.

“Yeah well it wouldn’t have gotten even if you hadn’t gone and told the boys about it afterwards!” Rose was getting pissed now too.

“Oh sure just go and throw us under the bus too!” Kou tossed up his hands in exasperation.

The violent clearing of a throat suddenly silenced all present though and brought attention back to the pair of instructors. “So the truth comes out then.” Felix remarked darkly, the very air around him seemed to have taken on a dark tinge.

“So it seems, apparently this lot never learned that spreading viscous rumors is very impolite.” Vita matched both his expression and aura and everyone present felt a chill run down there spine.

“I think they need a lesson in manners.” Felix added his lips curving into a slightly mad smile.

“A very severe lesson I’d say.” Vita added with a rather terrfying cheerfulness.

“Oh… Now you’re going to use this training session as an excuse push us right up the borderline of physical abuse aren’t you?” Daisy remarked sheepishly.

“Oh yeah.” Felix affirmed.

“You’ll have bruises in places you didn’t even know you had.” Vita added.

“So what’s the word?” Jack entered the room completely unannounced causing both Atuwe and Cameron who’d been deeply engrossed in their work to jump slightly at being disturbed.

“Well we’ve completed a preliminary analysis of the device and determined it’s effectively intact structurally speaking.” Aurion was rather harder to disquiet though and answered the General’s query without missing a beat.

“Then why isn’t it working?” Jack asked curious, while no expert he was pretty sure laying around totally limp wasn’t how Unison Devices were supposed to behave.

“A fair question; once we ruled out any structural or mechanical issues we moved on to other possibilities and we think we’ve found the main issue.” On cue a large holographic window popped up showing all manner of images and text that meant precisely butt-kiss to a laymen like O’Neil.

“We ran an analysis of the devices cognitive matrixes…” Cameron took over here and prepared her spiel.

Sensing an impending Technobabble avalanche O’Neil struck first and decisively. “Atuwe you explain it.” He ordered bluntly cutting off Cameron midstream she looked genuinely hurt by this but O’Neil regretted nothing.

Gifted though she was Atuwe was significantly better then her about dumbing things down for public consumption. “Well I doubt you care about the details so I’ll sum it up like this: basically the thing has the equivalent of severe brain damage. It’s effectively in a coma from what we can tell.” Atuwe informed from his position toward the back of the room.

Now that he could understand and he gave Atuwe an apperceive nod by way of thanks for the blunt and easily understood assessment. “So can you fix it?” He asked the obvious question this newly acquired knowledge posed.

“That is the million dollar question isn’t it?” Atuwe remarked wistfully while leaning back in his chair.

“We think there’s a chance we can bring it back online, but it’s still a risk and if we fail it’ll likely be lost for good.” Aurion clarified the slightly cryptic statement a bit.

“Is there any chance it’ll recover on its own?” Jack asked seriously.

“Virtually none.” Cameron answered firmly.

“Doesn’t seem like such a tough choice to me then.” Jack replied off hand and the others nodded in agreement.

“We can do the work here; though we’ll need to requisition a few pieces of specialist equipment.” Aurion remarked casually.

“I can handle that I know some people in R&D requisitions.” Cameron quickly put in.

Jack now nodded to her appreciatively since he counted any instance where he could get out of having to schmooze for something himself as a victory. “Alright then how long are we talking here?” He was a bit impatient as he could not shake the nagging feeling that they had little time to waste.

“It’s hard to say it’s sort of one of those ‘we won’t know until we start’ kind of things.” Aurion shrugged unwilling to make any promises he might not keep.

“Well that’ll have to do—“ The entire room suddenly shook slightly, not allot, but you could definitely feel the slight vibration.

“Hmm they must be really getting into it.” O’Neil remarked unfazed apparently aware of the source of the rumble.

Aurion quirked an eyebrow in unspoken inquiry.

“Well honestly a number of our guests seemed to have an awful lot of free time on there hands, and since we were blessed enough to have not one, but two qualified Air Force instructors around I figured it was a great chance to allow some of them to maybe learn a little something from the pros.” O’Neil informed them casually.

“You know training is only useful if the person survives it.” Atuwe noted sarcastically.

“Oh relax I’m sure they’re not doing anything danger—“ The ground shook again, noticeably more forcefully then before. “On second thought maybe I better go have a look, do what you need to do but keep me posted people.” He didn’t quite run from the room, but he wasn’t wasting anytime either as he exited.

“So is this normal?” Aurion asked his two assistants curiously.

“Yeah more or less.” Atuwe shrugged.

“Just about.” Cameron nodded in agreement.

“Hmm maybe I should drop in more often…” He pondered aloud.

“I recall saying something to the effect of ‘run them through some drills, give them something to do for the afternoon’, not ‘nearly kill them in an over the top pyrotechnics display.’”

“With respect Sir we were only using magic damage; there was never any serious risk of death and their injuries are rather minor.” Vita countered rather lamely.

“Sadly it would appear the training field did not fare quite as well.” O’Neil noted blandly review the maintenance report before him on his desk.

“I’d like to think of it as exposing some potential weakness in the system to be addressed in future updates.” Felix remarked unfazed by the damage.

“I don’t suppose asking why you went so over the top would yield a decent answer?” He sighed, as much amused as annoyed honestly.

“Well sir after assessing the group we jointly determined that they would benefit most from a… high intensity work out.” Vita informed him evenly.

“Indeed we felt that maximum realism would be the most beneficial approach given the students in question.” Felix added wholeheartedly agreeing.

“Well there is one bright spot I suppose.” O’Neil commented idly.

”Sir?”

“After this I rather doubt they’ll be afraid of the enemy any more.”

“Kevin really out did himself today.” Enzo remarked satisfied as he headed back to the infirmary from his late lunch in the mess hall. He’d put off eating in the interests of finishing up most of his work earlier, he had just a few things left to take care of and then we could get out of here a bit early; at least that was what he thought until he opened the door to the infirmary and was greeted by a half dozen battered, bruised, muddy and frankly miserably looking troopers crowding the room…

“Wow what happened here, you guys loose a fight with a wood-chipper or something?”

Bored out of my mind, I felt like I should have given a face to some of the enemies in my story. And damn, I am writing at a snail's pace, and add that to the feel that I have to rework some parts.

Antagonist faction featured in Journeyers: The Majestic Twelve

Affiliation: Formerly the Alwion Empire, now the Alwion Confederacy.

What are they: The Majestic Twelve, as they were called before the civil wars, were the twelve generals of the armed forces of the Empire. Now they serves the Confederacy. The generals are the heads of the twelve most powerful clans of the Confederacy. Other than the military matters, the generals are also competent in different fields, ranging from medias, research, magic studies to weapon industry and logistic.

Their role in Journeyers: They are basically the heads of the twelve armies of the Confederacy. While the power of the armies varies from one army to the other, a single Majestic hold a power that rivals the Aces, pride of the TSAB. It is not unlikely that one of them will be after the group of the Colonel Yagami, to capture her and her friends, and bring them to the Confederacy.
On the battlefield, they may very well be the ones who will give the most trouble to the Aces, the Strikers and the Volkenritters who stayed in Mid. Not to mention that each of them are escorted by nine of the 108 Immortals.

Ethics: They follows a code of honor vaguely comparable to the code of honor of the european medieval knights. However, their role in the politics of the former empire implies that their loyalty to the former imperal clan Vickers, the ideals of Alwion itself or the people of Alwion changes from one individual to another. It is very possible that all of them have their own agenda.

Sir Grant, Clan Rodley



General of the First Army, the most powerful of the Confederacy. His clan was the first one who helped the former imperial clan to unite the empire. He now have to collaborate with the current power leading the Confederacy. He talk little about everything and even himself.

Sir Thomas, Clan Harrington



General of the Second Army. The Clan Harrington used to be made up of hunters and rangers living off the dense and dangerous forests of their homeworld. The organization of the Second Army shows a lot of the roots of the Clan.

Sir Lester, Clan Marlborough



General of the Third Army. The Clan Marborough drew its power from its cavalry, that is now an infantry heavily equiped with power armors and its tanks when horsemen became obsolete in the Alwion wars.

Sir Chuck, Clan Alberford



General of the Fourth Army, also known as the Ghost Army. His Clan was rumored to have trained shady clanmen, not to mention the secret held by its head. The Fourth Army favors stealth attacks, hit & run and night assaults.

Sir Angus, Clan Beardmore



A massive stentor who lead the Fifth Army. While his weaponry of choice is unsual in this time, his army is one of the most conventional, with a heavy emphasis on infantry and artillery; and a preference for trench and fort warfare.

Sir Gilles, Clan Blondeau



Gilles lead the Sixth Army, one of the weaker ranked. Gilles' occupation is the police forces of the Confederacy. In despite of its relative weakness compared to the other armie, the Sixth Army is feared for its terror campains, made up of wanton destruction, underhanded terrorist attacks and public executions in occupied territories.

Sir Tristan, Clan Egerton



Tristan is the leader of the Seventh Army, the one that can be expected to fight in honorable matters (seemingly). Another conventional army with no outstanding strenght and no crippling weaknesses either. However, Tristan's knightly and hotblooded behavior is famed in the Confederacy, and his troops are known for their eagerness to engage the battle.

Sir Rinaldo, Clan Blackburn



Rinaldo lead the Eighth Army, also known as the Army of the One Faith. He is deeply religious, his near fanatical devotion to the Holy Mother (the deity of the Alwion religion) have caused him to annoy his peers. His army put an heavy emphasis on its armored cavalry. Before the decline of magic, its infantrymen were known for their mystic powers and their devastating effect on the enemy. However, the decline of magic have lead them to use this power sparingly.

Sir Lloyd, Clan Enfield



Leader of the Nineth Army. He is pretty much a flyboy, like many members of his Clan who used to be gryphon riders before they went extinct. And the organization of his army with its emphasis on aircrafts, fighters, transport ships, spaceships, and troops trained to fight in relation of the flying machines shows it. He is himself a Ace pilot who can brag about a loaded kill count, but he prefers to keep the bragging for the festivals he greatly enjoys.

Lady Shannon, Clan Ashton-Evans



She is the general of the Tenth Army. Her clan was famed for its mages and advances in the magical research. Once a very powerful clan at the head of a powerful army, it is now declining because of the decline of magic itself. Her reason to go into this war is her hopes to grab the magical resources of the TSAB and its people.

Sir Aaron, Clan Gloster



General of the Eleventh Army, Sir Aaron is one of the few general who leaves the command of his army to the more competent and thrustworthy commoners. His Clan greatly controls the media and the propaganda, he was the first to have meet Hayate during their first diplomatic visit. The army he leads is the smallest in size. However, it is compensated by his spies, moles and sleeper agents who are almost EVERYWHERE.

Lady Maeva, Clan Hackworth



She was recently promoted general of the Twelfth Army, years after the death of her brother. Her Clan is one of the oldest and used to be the closest to the Imperial Clan Vickers, having produced many valuable bodyguards for the lineage. The Clan was also known for Rhongowennan, an ancient poleaxe that is said to hold great magical power, Maeva is now the one wielding it. After the questionable role of her brother at a time where the people called for a revolution (so said the propaganda), her clan fell from grace and slowly declined. Then, many of the personel of the army were transfered to the other armies. Lady Maeva seeks to restore the honor of her Clan and cannot forgive her late brother for the dishonor thrown over her Clanmen.

The 108 Immortals



Powerful combat cyborgs manufactured to serve a Clan leader and occasionally "cleanse" a planet. Each of the Majestic Twelve are given nine Immortals, and the Immortals usually battle in three groups of three. It is rumored that a trio is needed to cleanse a third of a world. They can generate plasma, are able to fly, they are highly resistant and the nanites almost turned them into non-organic lifeforms that can regenerate as long as they have energy and matter, with a heavy preference for metal. They however have a crucial flaw that will be revealed way later.

Inspirations: The idea is very vaguely taken from the Nanto Roku Seiken. The name is from the game Deus Ex. Then I rolled with them and made this antagonist group.
The names of the Clan are taken from defunct British manufacturers.
